As long as the Power Pint will not be discontinued I'll be ok. Its awesome as a back up and it makes a great gift 👍
Just sent one to my nephew for his birthday 15 mins ago
SOG was great in the late 90's and 2000's.
Test question: If Leatherman stops innovating, is the company finished or not? Of course it is finished.
LM has such a powerful brand and name recognition that they will live on , even if in a reduced capacity, for many years to come. These smaller production companies have low overhead even in high tax states that they can produce crap and sell on the global economy.
My problem with sog is the quality, amazing desings but really bad executed, even the cheap chinese brands have better finish, so in the end, even if the desing is good, the tool is just bad. At least that was my experience.
The powerpint is almost perfection. The end bit driver option can be optimized with a magnet. Replace the knife with a scalpel and upgrade the scissors.
I still carry the sinc as edc to work and I have one set up as beltbuckel (permanent because the screws where glued in and did not want to yield, so violence ensued...)
I really like the Powerpint. It’s a great size, has great features, but some of the tools are not the greatest. I would love to see some updates to their tools (especially the file) within their current options to have be better quality.
A 711 mini ratchet fits into the bit driver slot. It’s a great pairing.
SOG might not be productive on its Multitool platform, but they are killing it on their tactical product and tools.
Maybe they could improve a bit the average quality of the tools on the Powerpint which are "almost" usable.
I wish I could say I'm sad, but I'm not. SOG has consistently put out cheaply made tools with more premium prices. I'd much rather the aliexpress one since 3cr and 5cr based tools made overseas should only cost around $25. SOG isn't competitive, they price gouge, and their overall quality has been lacking since the 90's.
AliExpress isn't underselling anything. Each seller sets their own prices and chooses whether there will be discounts.
BTW, ordered the powerpint from there, have been using it for a couple of months. The best thing about it is weight and size.
The steel is so soft that even with some light cutting and package opening the edge on the awl (and it has like a 45°edge) got rolled pretty badly.
But I bought it mainly for the pliers, which work great. So I'm actually really happy with it.
SOG let their patent on the power gear lapse!
Ofcourse I have to comment. You're making me cry dude, and I believe you are correct in almost all of the points you make. The loyalty is gone, except for maybe 5 dedicated collectors and I know all of them. SOG got bought by the worst company to inherit their creativity. Collect what gems you can, and move on, like all other things in life.
@@TheBentastic Thanks for all you do keeping the original genius of Sog alive!
Jeżeli chodzi o małe multitoole to zostanę przy Victorinox.Mam Nextool,Swiss+Tech,Sanke Rescue,Workpro, ale kieszonkowe to tylko Victorinox taki jak Deluxe Tinker, lub Handyman.
I know you've done random sog videos so the time. Do you think you could do a long form video going over the best sogs to still buy or just your favorite ones
@@ryangriffith1500 Sure!
@hvacbudget8600 I actually saw a sog powerpint in a Colorado Walmart the other day same with a gerber dime. Haven't seen either of those in 25yrs at a Walmart here
Doesn't SOG have US military contracts for their EOD model?
Personally I have the PowerLock & aegis mt and I have no complaints about anything about SOG tools, and the compound leverage tech is excellent...420HC that has gone thru a good tempering process, like what Buck does with 420HC, is a terrific steel for these sorts of tools...as far as I know the proprietary tempering process seems to be more important than the type of steel.
@gk.spinoza There have been EOD models with Nato numbers but the main tool I was aware of was the Gerber MP600 for the military. Of course each military is different. This is US military.
First time i hear this.b
The build quality is terrible. Quality control seems totally absent.
Plot twist SOG is a Branch of roxon
@@trowawayacc LoL, might help!
SOG kind of threw in the towel on multitools, and I dont think MTs are a focus of GSM who now owns SOG and Cold Steel. The XR lock knives and fixed blade knives sell pretty well.
@@Logan2070 Makes sense.
This is really sad news..
I have been an admirer and a fan of its Single handed opening and Compound Leverage ever since I first laid my eyes on them.
Need good competition for the mighty Leatherman anyday...
@@nirajrayker9282 I agree!!
@@hvacbudget8600I love sog. I think the powerpint and litre are best in class. My cross cut works quite well. Did yours come in a box saying crosscat? I'd love a better look at the Paratool and paladin
The Power Pint and Power Liter are simultaneously the best and worst mini multitools ever. Nothing beats those pliers. They look cool, work great and they weigh nothing. Unfortunately thats where the utility for them ends. Every other tool crammed in is sh*tacular.
Never been a fan of SOG. All rep and underwhelming performance.
