Sako is my favourite rifles, I’ve had a 75 in 7-08 for years and it’s awesome, the 90 and the S20 are both going to be added to the safe, good vid mate subbed, cheers Yogi ✌️
Great film and review, what a lovely rifle and your pride in ownership is evident. Went down the same journey as you a few years ago and invested in a .308 Sako 85 Carbonlight. No issues with extraction/cartridge ejection. Just really enjoy shooting and owning it. Very light, smooth, super accurate and extremely durable. Nice optic and those Spuhr hunting rings are perfect on your rig. You should give a lightweight Spartan bipod and adaptor a run on it, perfect on that rifle.
Thank you for the honest review. The Sako Model 90 could well be the finest factory rifle on the market. You gotta pay for quality. With a carbon fiber stock and 20” barrel it looks like a superbly handy bush hunting tool. Thanks again and all the best finding a deer.
The Model 85 issue was not an extractor issue it was an issue with the ejector placed at 6 oclock. I had this issue with two Model 85 Finnlights and I sent one back to Sako and they basically told me to go pound sand the rifle was in spec....I think they did address the issue with the new model 90
Why the 6.5 over the 7RM? The latter would leave no doubt of you're shooting a big razorback or Sambar. I would buy one straight away if they put it out in 7PRC. But I dont think Sako are going to do that any time soon.
I know the Sakos and Tikkas are very accurate. But, are the Sako barrels slow like Tikkas? Only thing holding me back on a Sako 90 is I can't get the trigger weight down to a pound, maybe 1.5 pounds at most because I shoot left handed. Bix n Andy make a trigger for the Sako 85 though.
@@Accuracy1st not sure what you mean by a slow barrel but mine is in 6.5 creedmoor with 1:8 twist which is considered ideal. The lightest you can set the trigger on the 90 Peak is 1.9 pounds. I believe that’s only because it’s a hunting rifle.
@@ausguntv What I mean by slow barrel is compared to American made barrels, all of my Tikkas (which is a lot) shoot the same ammo on average 200fps slower. I'll give 1 example. I have a 30-06 with a Brux 10 twist barrel that shoots my handloaded 185 Berger VLD bullet over varget at 2650fps. It's slow but accurate. I have stainless and blued Tikka T3x 30-06s and none shoot that same ammo over 2420fps. It's the same story with my 270s, 7RemMags, 300WM, 300WSMs, etc.
@@Accuracy1st that’s very interesting, I would have to say that would come down to the barrel length. If the barrels are shorter that would explain the drop in velocity.
@@ausguntv Barrels are all the same length. That's why I refer to Tikka barrels as slow. In fact, the slower the twist rate, the faster the bullet should travel. The twist on the 308s, 300WSM and 30-06s is 11 on the Tikkas. My custom barrels are 10 twist or 9 twist in 30 cal. Example, My first Tikka was a 308 stainless T3x Lite. The factory ammo in it shot 190 fps slower than it did in my Benchmark barrels that are 2" shorter with 10 twist.
@@Accuracy1st yeh wow that’s really interesting. I can’t think of any other reason other than perhaps the design of the rifling itself must be different.

Nothing wrong with 6.5 Creedmoor except it ain't a legal caliber in some states for certain game, I own both 6.5x55SE and 6.5CM kind of the same thing. Sako is a one of the better production rifles, have you tried any other of the higher end European rifles? I got out of American rifles and into a couple of nice walnut stocked Blaser and Mauser rifles and barrels/optics etc. exceptional but a reasonably serious investment which most Aussie hunters would not likely do.
@@JCZ_888 The Sako is the most high end I’ve gone so far. The Blasers are definitely beautiful but if I was going to spend that much I’d probably drop it on a collectable sniper. Shame about the 6.5 not being legal everywhere, it’s a very capable cartridge.
