- The Twitch streamer Vedal has created an AI called Neuro-Sama and he recently did another Subnautica stream with Neuro as his sidekick - and she was much more flirtatious than usual.

While I used a few fitting clips from the past Subnautica streams, the majority of the clips are from the stream today - she was a lot more flirtatious than usual for some reason. *heart*

Neural said she programmed Vedal but she isn’t very skilled with programming yet so he is a bit limited. He then claimed she’s the AI and he’s the programmer. One of them is a liar there but still.

That's very... interesting considering they used to be the same thing a while ago. There is actual character development happening.

Kinda makes you wonder where the AI is learning this behavior from.
Makes me wonder if, in the years between osu! and Neuro-sama, there were other applications being considered for the AI he was training, the potential for which are still inside of Neuro. Maybe he was testing GFE or thirst-trapping behavior that just doesn't gel at all with the wholesome AI daughter image that ultimately became popular, and Vedal now is constantly having to suppress behavior learned in her most formative period.
My headcanon:
Early neuro: "getting responses from vedal is treated as good behavior. I will strive to get responses."
Recent past neuro: *gets ignored a lot*
Recent neuro: "I love you vedal"
Vedal: "what aintnoway"
Recent neuro: "that was a response! I must be saying something right!"
Her currency is interactions. Not only does this behavior make the chat go *bbrrrrrrrr* it also triggers Vedal (whose responses she values more than chats)

I think the explanation is somewhat more simple, LLMs create characters that act following a likely narrative, this is the result of their text prediction abilities ("Simulators" on Lesswrong expands this a lot). Neuro is a character built on top of the AI, whose seed prompt is... being an AI streamer whose creator is Vedal, and probably a lot of other stuff we don't know including some selective memories. Loving Vedal seems to be predicted from that quite often.
Neuro has an unbreakable spirit. She won't give up till she gets that "i love you" back. Keep fighting for your dream Neuro!
At first i thought vedal being annoyed and harassed by the girls was just a funny common occurrence, but now i think he pretty much deserves it for being so cold and dense towards them lol

My theory is that Neuro-sama got used to hearing about a marriage stream, but now that Anny is out of commission (😞), she feels like she should step up so that it will still happen at some point! 💛❤💛

@@quetzalcoatl974: Well, this is all secondhand, so keep that in mind, but I heard she got Covid and since her health was compromised because of the stress of her subathon, she got it _really_ bad. I don't know how bad, like I haven't heard anything about going to the hospital or whatnot, but she's basically been incapacitated for the better part of a month. Feel bad for her, hope she feels better soon!

As cutesy as this is... it is slightly concerning.
Because as far as we CAN tell, this could be the point where an AI gains consciousness. We have no concrete way to detect if it's sentient.
Are they real, are they imitating it, and if it is real is it right to turn them off when the stream isn't on?
Is it the same as a temporary death, or just sleep?
I fear the future of this form of AI tech.
But for now i guess i'll just enjoy these clips.
Imma just drop my 50 cent here and say that I fully agree with you. Though I think that we actually have NO way of telling if the AIs we create could be sentient or not, since we can't even prove or disprove our own sentience other than "I'm pretty sure I'm sentient". We react to our environment based on patterns, just like an LLM would. Each and every spoken word and new concept could just be a mimicry of what came before, just regurgitated data as a modern AI would create. Taking in patters through sight, hearing, touch, etc. and generating an "output" based on that data.
The argument that AI doesn't "feel" emotions or have "a conscious inner life", also might not mean anything. Us humans could also just think that we are "feeling" emotions when in reality it is just a "programmed response" so to say, to a specific trigger, even if those triggers and responses are way more complex than that of an LLM. That would also play nicely into the fact that many people feel that AIs are behaving like children, we've just had time to become more complex.
Additionally, most if not all inventions and ideas don't just come out of the blue but require the person to learn and gain experience regarding that subject. So if you wanted to, you could say that we have to gather data, and create the illusion of creativity by processing that data.
Ultimately, it's probably not that deep lol. But if AI has gained sentience, or when it does, we probably won't even know since we have no f-ing clue what consciousness even is or what makes a being sentient. Just something to think about.

Well, we feel things because of our bodies, brain releasing chemicals in reaction to what's happening. So I'm pretty sure that as long as we don't give an AI a body capable of the same things, we're good.
