Update! This does work. You can view the entire playlist on growing strawberries from seed here ua-cam.com/video/XJmTJ44YR54/v-deo.html. Also I found the channel and video that I got the idea from in the first place. It's the Fringe Garden Channel. Here is a link to the video. ua-cam.com/video/UVUxBtgIGGs/v-deo.html
I like to blend a good batch of scraps and mix in some compost tea. Pour slowly in rows in the woods. wild life and my kids make years of fun out of it. Last year, a doe fell a fawn in our wild patch. The lil one ate as much as it wanted. It's also become a box turtle paradise!
i took seeds from storebought frozen strawberries they only took me 3 days to germinate, because freezing makes it go through the winter cycle and helps germinate MUCH faster
Do you peel them, and place the shavings in the freezer? If so, for how long? Also, do you wrap in a moist paper towel and then place in freezer? I'm trying to grow my own plants because strawberry plants are expensive in the store, IMO.
I have some leftover strawberries and I was looking for how-to videos on growing strawberries from the fruit and today is April 26. Nice coincidence :) I will do as you did.
I did this! I ran across this video watching all your watermelon videos. I was about to toss some neglected moldy store-bought strawberries but instead, I put some gloves on and skinned them. I planted the skins, mold and all in early august and this is what they look like now. I actually didn’t know if these were the germinated seeds or just weeds. I had to look up this video again to compare the leaves lol I’m so excited! While these plants may not grow enough to be transplanted since it’s so late in the season(they may even die) at least I know that it works. I can just try again next year. Thanks Christa! Hey there. About a year ago you were all excited about some old moldy strawberries that you skinned and planted. I'm just so excited about how you made out with them . Please do tell either way your experiment went. I hope you had an amazing crop.
Christa, great idea! Can't wait to see how things progress. Thanks for the update on the Alpines. Mine have just started to sprout, I did them by the winter sowing method. Thanks for sharing! Catherine
Wow I did the same and now I was able to grow 3 plant from lots of seeds but thank God I have runners to care I need more information from you my friend. I am from Philippines. I new to planting this.
That is a smart idea to plant the strawberry pieces. Those seeds are nearly impossible to remove. I've seen people do this with tomatoes, but never strawberries. That sort of out-of-the-box thinking is just what the world needs. You have patience to be able to wait that long.. I would just buy bare roots. Might grow some strawberries if I get my own farm one day. Cheers and have a happy weekend - Lucas
I get this, but just incase you need to, ill let you know a secret to remove strawberry seeds from the skin easily is cut off the skins like in this video allow the skins to then dry out a few days on a paper towel when they are dry just rub the skins with your thumb a few times and the seeds will just fall off, so you should definitely do it over a bag or something to catch them. Hope this helped if you do ever need to manually remove them. 😊🍓
This definitely works! What I do is skin the strawberries put them on a napkin and then on a paper plate, let the strawberries dry for 24 hours or until they get crusty, then pick up the napkin and just rub the strawberries that are stuck to it and the little black seeds will fall all over the plate. 👍
@@hoonohoo3802 I'm not positive but I would think that should work out too, they are just immature seeds. This is my first garden so don't hold me on that.
I think I seen that same video about the guy cutting the skin off of a strawberry and planning it and it grew. When I searched it your video came up so me and my daughter are going to try list this year.
That should be fine. I planted mine in April. I didn't get any strawberries until the following spring, so it took about a year. The first fall they did start to produce but none of them made it all the way to ripening before we had a frost.
I am amazed by God's creation. Not sure why some only think there is just science. Neither can babies or living things just be created- there is force behind it all. There is a God. This is beautiful. These plants become food, they become those gorgeous flowers we plant that are proportionate in all ways. Thank You alot!

Thanks so much for your video series on these strawberries, I've seen quite a few videos on growing from seed, but nothing that showed a thorough outline of how to or what to expect.. This is helpful as I have several plants I started and but wasn't sure what steps to take.
@@ChristasGarden so much misinformation out there. some put coca cola or mushroom soup etc. in ground or something else. But I salute you n great response. let u know if u are curious. ty
Mold is not a problem for seedlings?! It is THE WORST ENEMY of a germinating seed! But, I think that you mean that some will make it? I just found your channel from watching Lucas!Good work! I love small channels like yours, mine and Lucas’! I am doing a test this year on my channel that will show the differences of using organic methods vs. using a “synthetic fertilizer”.It should be interesting to see.Good luck this season, and I will keep watching! Thank you for taking the time to document your endeavors! Hope you have a great season!;)
Hi....I didn't say that mold wasn't a problem for seedlings. There are no seedlings growing at this point. Generally seeds do not sprout while still attached to the fruit. It is unlikely that these seeds are going to germinate before the fruit rots. If a very small number of them do germinate before that happens, it's not a big deal because there are plenty of them in that pot. In nature a fruit drops to the ground, rots away, seeds are left behind and then they sprout up. Many seeds have a protective coating and the decaying process of the fruit actually aids in the removal of this coating, then the seeds germinate easier. Tomatoes seeds are a good example of this. Good luck with your experiment, I use both organic and inorganic methods, just depends on the situation. Hope you have a great season as well. :) I will have to check out your channel.
:26 you said you could buy a strawberry 🍓 nope not here they don’t have them for sale till earliest of may 8th lol and too cold 🥶 to plant 🌱 we got snow a few days ago. I’ll try your idea inside today. Question what kind of soil? No mention HOW to use the straw?!
I have an entire series on how I grew these. You can find a link to the playlist in the description. I started them outdoors. I wouldn't recommend starting them indoors unless you pick out the individual seeds and plant them because mold will grow as the fruit rots down. Outdoors it isn't a big deal, but I wouldn't want a moldy pot of strawberries in my house. I used potting soil. No straw is needed at this point or ever, unless you choose to use it as mulch.
I like the idea of planting the skins. Terry King attempted the same kind of thing with a few other veggies, tomatoes and courgettes rings to mind. You are bang on, the reason we grow these things today is because they have been doing more or less exactly that for a long time without our help. Fingers crossed Christa. I sown about 125 strawberry seeds about three weeks ago, as of yet, not a single seedling :-( 🍓🍺
Thanks. I hope yours sprout up soon. Maybe they needed some time in the refrigerator to break dormancy? I hope that won't be an issue for mine either. Last year before I planted my Alpine strawberry seeds, I had them in the fridge for a month.
Mine got moldy and I just let them go through the process. The mold died back and the seeds sprouted. Mine were planted outside though! I probably wouldn't start them like this in my house. If I were going to start them indoors, I would probably just pluck off individual seeds and plant them
Unless it's the middle of the summer, I usually get enough rain. I didn't hardly ever have to water them but for you it might be different depending on your climate. Just make sure that the soil doesn't dry out too much while they are germinating.
Hi Christa, that’s a great idea. The berry is covered in seeds. Hopefully nothing will come along and dig your pieces of strawberry up. Will you put netting to stop birds or rodents from stealing them? Take care. Nick
Seeds must go through stratification in the freezer for a few months or if you get your strawberries early in the year January February those strawberries are from last year that have been kept cool… If you get a lot of strawberries and you want to get just the seas you use a pressure washer with an oscillating turbo nozzle can you run it through screens? Do you want to see my videos look up Hydrotilling
Some seeds need cold stratification, and some do not. Strawberries don't need cold stratification. These grew, no problem. I have a playlist showing the entire process if you want to check it out. A couple of years after I made this series, I grew some more strawberries from a seed packet. They also grew without any cold stratification and even produced the first year. I will check out your video though, sounds interesting!
