    Milan, Italy in 6 September to 11 September 1880 - ‘The Milan Conference’ was the first international conference of deaf educators.
    Over 50% of those invited where oralist and therefore the Conference was bias
    From 164 delegates only, James Denison, was deaf.
    Oral method preferred passed 160 to 4
    Delegates from the United States and Britain were the only ones who opposed the use of oralism as a sole method of instruction
    In the UK - The Education Act (1893) officially banned the use of sign language in education.

    Wow wonderful summary of the famous Milan 1880. I’m undergoing IBSL level 4 lingustics before becoming teacher myself. I’m deaf myself so I find your videos a wonderful examples.

    I am learning BSL,
    Very nice video, shame it hasn't got any subtitles.
    It would help to understand more and clarify some of the signing words better.

    Can't believe the ratio of deaf to hearing at that conference! 😡
