Sign How know that it is normal to feel ‘outside of your comfort zone’ when starting your learning journey. We want to reassure you that you are not expected to ‘retain’ everything from each session although we know that part of you may be frustrated that you don’t. Acquiring BSL is a journey that starts with learning how to ‘tolerate’ a visual input and acquire the language.
Students often worry that they are expected to remember all the new signs. It is more a case of recognising signs as you come across and using signs you need for your life.
We offer training in Greater Manchester, Bradford, Liverpool, St. Helens, online and in bespoke locations as requested,

This is very helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much. Really helps explain MCS
What level practice is this please?
I used to be at Boston spa school where BSL was banned
I struggle with my receptive level a bit, but I was able to grasp almost all of that clip. Thank you!
Thank you :)
I am learning BSL, Very nice video, shame it hasn't got any subtitles. It would help to understand more and clarify some of the signing words better.
This is really helpful i am deaf myself and I love BSL 😊
Should be audio too for non deaf to learn
Good Morning Haider. Thank you for your message. There is no audio because if your brain is listening to sound it takes "priority" over visual input. Therefore your brain doesn't learn to understand visual language alone. This results in a person's comprehension skills being weak when interacting with a BSL user. BSL doesn't use sound and its impossible to speak English at the same time as using proper BSL because of how the grammar is produced with mouth patterns and facial expressions. I hope that helps you understand why there is no audio?
This video has made me wonder how Deaf muslims access their prayers, or even sikhs and their scripture.
Explanation lovely and Clear,Thankyou!
Hello
I love your horse-based clothing and blankets. 😅 Thank you for the useful video.
Absolutely agree. Interpreters are so important. I support deaf adults that have learning disabilities and they sometimes need to go to medical appointments, which I support them with as my signing is ok - although I’m not an interpreter. I have a use a combination of BSL (or SSE) as well as simple visual aids like pictures on my phone to communicate with them as their understanding is sometimes quite basic. It must be so frightening to be in an environment like a hospital, perhaps being given some bad news or complicated information, while being in pain… and to not have someone (ie a qualified interpreter or communication support worker) there to reassure and make things easier to understand.
Very helpful thank you
Your videos are so helpful. Please write a more modern book than the white grammar book, Minna! :)
þrðmð§m 🤘
Thanks. I found this really useful.
I love BSL. I really do. But I watch BSL videos online (from Deaf charities, etc) and they don't seem to follow the topic-comment structure I've been taught. Sometimes it's SSE mixed with BSL. It's very confusing for a student who needs to sign correctly for exams. :(
This is true and really, its because of poor educational experiences. Really though, consider English use. Do you think that most English speakers use fully correct English? Incorrect language use becomes a colloqual dialect in its self. One can't assume that deafness infers good standard of BSL.
@@minnaatsignhow8750 I understand what you're saying, Minna. It can be slightly discouraging to watch BSL users in action and then I am sat thinking 'Am I doing it wrong?' I don't want to copy native users (who are doing it differently to 'textbook BSL') then fail an exam. This is my fear. I understand every BSL user is different though. Thanks for your input.
Good evening, very useful. Can I ask, do I use space from MY view? I.e. would the the cinema be on MY left? Then the person I am signing to imagines it from my view?
Hi KW, In BSL you always produce from the perspective of the person signing. For example, i'm now sat at my computer and the mouse is on my right, next to my right hand so i would sign it thus. hope that helps.
Great signing. I hope you did well in your exam. Thanks for sharing
She passed!
Thank you for this. Really helps with 202 exam practice. Well done for passing. 😊
Thank you to this student for sharing. His signing pace was very good. Not too fast not too slow. :)
This is VERY useful. There are very little resources out there for BSL structure and word order. I have 'The Linguistics of British Sign Language' and I understand it...sort of but I have not found a second source that explains it well until I found this video!
Thanks for lovely feedback. I also offer tuition if interested in more deapth, Www.signhow.co.uk
@@minnaatsignhow8750 Thank you, I will definitely look into it. Do you offer BSL level 3 via remote learning with exams?
@@KD-mh3xv yes
Thanks good lesson refresher !!..but you don't give enough time for us to read the captions before you start signing, ive had rewind this several times just to follow the sentence. Please let us have a few seconds to read!
It would be so useful if you had captions available on your videos. I’m interested in the grammar side of bsl but my ability is not good enough to understand what you’re signing.
Hi Dani, thanks for interacting. Some of the videos do have captions on them, if you press CC. This one hasn't yet now, but there is a mini-transcript in the description - did you see it?
@@minnaatsignhow8750 no I didn’t thanks, I will check that out now. Thanks for your reply 😊
Wow wonderful summary of the famous Milan 1880. I’m undergoing IBSL level 4 lingustics before becoming teacher myself. I’m deaf myself so I find your videos a wonderful examples.
Thank you for the video Minna! Going back to your 2 timeline videos has really consolidated this for me :)
That's a great introduction to signs related to Islam, thanks Minna.
Wow I'm loving this lady's signing.. Hoping i will be this good one day!!
I wonder if she passed and how much practice she did before her mock assessment
Interesting video, and your signing is really clear for a learner like me. Many thanks.
Thanks! This is Rachel, she was a learner once!
Horses like turmeric?!
Totally!!!
My 8 yr old loves climbing trees.. Me, not so much!!
Climbing trees was my hobby when I was young, the bigger the better. I could sit in a tree for hours.
Wow, veggie since being 8...that's impressive!
😟😟
I've never seen him!

brilliant, made me laugh!
Lol that's a busy morning!!
I love the Lake District too.. Thanks for doing these vids Rachel, it's nice to get receptive practice in!
I agree, I wouldn't want a big house.. Unless I could afford to employ a full time cleaner 😂😂
Beautiful BSL to watch, fantastic expressions
Hilarious, haha, great!
Hahahaha this is too funny!!!
Hahaha this is hilarious 😂😂
The sign at 2:26 with the two fingers moving up the arm, does than mean vegan?
vegetarian - its one of the sign. I use another one, Ed replies with another variant.
@@minnamoffattfeldman ah okay thank you.
Love the videos, but can you make yourself a bit bigger when signing as it's slightly hard to see.
Not with the software I've got... need to look at other options ... any suggestions please say!
The pragmatic video has disappeared.

Good revision. Thanks
Thank you. Especially for including the hijab/headscarf!
This is so true, when I started level 1, I didn’t realise the difference being the hearing and deaf worlds. It’s amazing the level of difference. I couldn’t work out if you were just direct or blunt or you just didn’t like me. Making extended eye contact takes some getting used to as well. You often hear about it being a multicultural world but I don’t think that includes the deaf.
