I've been doing 18:6 during weekdays and 16:8 on weekends for the last 3 months and have been steadily losing weight. I think the reason why intermittent fasting has been so effective for me is because it's made me aware of te mindless snacking I used to do ALL DAY. I imagine it's the same for a lot of people.
I’ve been keto for two years, and started IF, about 6 months ago. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE, had definition in my abs, and a thy gap. I’m never hungry, I never have cravings, and I allow myself a cheat, every now and again. I work out, but I work out allot less then I did before this diet. I used to calorie count, break my back in the gym, and I still had a butt and belly, and suffered from chronic fatigue (majorly). I will never look back. My inflammation is gone, fatigue is gone, and I look better now then I EVER did in my 20s.
@@peacelovejoyandhappiness I tend to work late, go to the gym after work, and go to bed late, so I have a late eating window. I eat, usually around 2, 5, and 8:30, ish when I have three meals, sometimes I have two meals a day and on those days I usually eat 3 and 8. I also walk, fasted, every morning before work.
Thank you so much for your reply Baily. I eat about 2 meals a day and a snack. My latest time I prefer eating is about 5 pm. So 7am breakfast, 1 pm snack and 5 pm dinner. I need to cut back on sugars though. I wish I didn't even touch sugary foods. I need to make my wish a need.
Doing exact opposite of what this woman says. 20h fasting everday and eating huge amounts of calories in that 4 hour. It helped me to lose last stubborn fats and made gave me abs, without any cardio training.
@@cemilcrrk113 Well done! Are you (very) low carb in your eating? Cutting out carbs and forgetting the calories is working well for me, with a 4-6 hour eating window.
Inaki Legorburu you don’t have to lower your carbs when you’re IF. Your body is already breaking down enough fat. Treat yourself doing IF. Trust me. You will still get results. Just looking out for you. Do what works for you and great job for your lifestyle change :)
Intermittent fasting basically is a threat to the fitness industry because it solves the problem they have never been able to fix, which is weight loss that lasts without exercise.
It’s quite simple, a calorie deficit will bring about weight loss. It you eat 3k calories within two hours vs all across the day the only difference will be the ability to eat as you please. Feel free to comment a link to a peer reviewed journal that yields successful weight loss WITHOUT a calorie deficit. Though you will not find one and definitely not multiple.
Gabriela Martinyuk nothing by itself makes you toned and ripped right I haven’t eaten 3 meals for a few months only 1-2 and I can’t lift a lot but its the strongest I’ve been
Gabriela Martinyuk exercise is important, but your body doesn’t necessarily need as much of it or the intensity most people think. Also, if you’re obese, losing the weight is ultra important, even if you’re still “skinny fat” in the end. Is it ideal? No. But it’s huge.
I mean no disrespect to you Jillian. All I know is I followed your advice for YEARS. I would lose and gain the weight back. Three years ago I discovered Keto and Intermittent Fasting. I lost 68 lbs and have KEPT IT OFF. I enjoy food again! I eat my food within 6 hours. I don't eat sugar. I limit my carb to under 30 grams per day. And I work out 2-4 days per week. I'm 50 now and I've been told I look better than I have in years. Not eating for 18 hours (and sometimes I do 1-5 day fasts dependent upon my mood) has allowed me to burn that stubborn fat around my stomach and it's also improved my insulin resistance which was likely going to turn into diabetes had I not taken action and cut out all carbs but from vegetables. I honestly credit cutting out all those carbs and fasting long periods along with long walks for my success and am convinced the bread, potato's, oatmeal, SUGAR and all the other starchy crap we put into our bodies along with the processed meats, cheeses and milk filled with antibiotics and pesticides are killing us. EAT ORGANIC. And follow Dr. Berg! Thanks for listening!
Jillian, don’t sell your soul to big business, you will regret it thousand times. Humanity are waking up and we do not listen to corporate lies anymore. 😔
She sold her soul long long time ago and always been a sold out, starting with a show that wasn’t healthy for obese people, they were fat shamed every single day, where the contestants metabolism was destroyed to the point of no return; to the fact that her book was a plagiarism from her mentor and also the fact the she is known for taking enhancement drugs
@@andreso7070 fat people deserves to be fat shamed. I am fat, and i am working my ass off not to be fat. Until then, shame me all you want, it will make me stronger. For those who can't handle the shame, i pity them!
@Jillian Michaels What exactly are the side effects of a keto way of eating? I've lost 98 pounds, my A1C went from pre-diabetes, to a very normal range. My blood systolic blood pressure has dropped 25 points. My triglycerides are in the 50s. I have no aching joints. Empty calories do NOT feed your body well. I think you misunderstand what a ketogenic diet does or is. Meat, fish, healthy fats (like avocados) vegetables and berries. A very satisfying and balanced way of eating. You can't tell me that the equal amount of calories of potato chips and carbs and sugar doesn't make a difference to feeding your body real food. Carbs/sugar are the first thing you have to burn before you can burn fat. So, if you are cutting those things out and your body is not working so hard to process them, then it will burn protein and fat and Whala! You burn fat and lose weight. Why did 95% of your Biggest Loser clients regain all of their weight, and are unable to lose weight now? Because you screwed up their metabolisms in a huge way! You made them work out so many hours, which is not something that 99% of people could logically maintain! All for the sake of a TV show. You did nothing for the quality of their lives or for your reputation as a true nutritionist or health guru. You're a very fit person, but to think that because your way of eating and working out hours per day works for you that it will work for everyone is not sound advice.
Ive lost 25 lbs with IF so it does work. I did plenty of research before even starting. Jilian i think you need to do alot more research before even putting out a video like this. Check out Dr. Ekberg and Dr Fung.
Gabriel Estrada Dr. Berg is her enemy she was telling ppl how bad is the keto diet and IF and making fun of his show he simply showed us her website and the companies are supporting her like ( chips and sodas and ebergy drinks ) that she include in ber diets !!! I meaan ... chips and sodas !
What makes me laugh is it doesn't take a genius to figure out everyone's body is different. What's going to work for one person isn't going to work for another. Some people can even do less working out and stay in shape and keep their weight down. I love Gillian and do some of her exercises but I do listen to everything she says. But again everyone's body is different. Just don't eat crap!!
The reason it works is it gives you less time to consume calories so you eat less and are more likely to be in a caloric deficit. But it’s not needed at all for weight loss. I did a 16 hour fast daily for 2 months and lost loads of weight but found I’d get extremely hungry around 11am and not be able to focus on anything. Now I have a 300ish calorie breakfast and track everything else to ensure I’m in a deficit.
@@FlatStan1l you are correct. Being in a deficit is the key. It does not matter If you eat 5 times a day or one. But If you eat low calories high protein is ok. Watch greg doucett videos
@Raw Santos have watched nearly all Greg’s videos and lost a ton of weight following the tips. I love the sustainable approach he talks about, like there’s no point losing weight fast then bulking up for ages and having to diet again for months
I've been fasting for 18hrs to 20hrs a day everyday for the past 3 months and I've lost over 60lbs. She is just saying bs. In history we did not have food readily available; had to go.hunt or catch food, we most likely went without days during the winter also.
Do you mind me asking how you ate, and what kinds of things you ate for the other 4-6 hours in the day? And the quantities? And the time of day you allowed yourself to eat? Looking for some good tips and it sounds like you're doing really well!
I used to eat the way Jillian states, which is precious little fasting. Weight kept bouncing up, lymphedema in my legs got progressively worse, damn near ready for a walker or wheelchair, and I became pre-diabetic. Started keto, IF and OMAD, down 87.5#, inflammation gone, no longer prediabetic, swelling from lymphedema is almost gone (CONTINUAL INSULIN caused the lymphedema!), brain fog gone, and my legs are strong again. My zeal for life has skyrocketed! All WITHOUT EXERCISING! Jason Fung, Ken Berry, and Eric Berg are my go to's. In my eyes, Jillian has become another Susan Powter.
@@Blackandwhitecat-u9v I'm not. I believe in it for general health. But for weight loss, it wasn't a factor in my 87.5# loss in one year. Unlike all my attempts in the last four decades. Check out Jason Fung who explains the studies concerning this.
you realize that if you eat whole foods. don't over eat on calories. and exercise... you can achieve all the same things. without any negative side effects from keto.
@@JillianMichaels On the contrary, keto removed the negative side effects of eating your way. The continual 3-4 hour meals and snacks included foods like oatmeal, quinoa, beans, and carrots, foods I never dreamed were the cause of my issues. They were the cause of my inflammation, my brain fog, my lack of strength and energy. The constant insulin made the lymphedema in my legs uncontrollable and, oh God, so weak and painful! Then my blood test late last year came back pre-diabetic. A couple weeks later, I started keto and IF. After four decades, FOUR WASTED DECADES, I am FINALLY burning with zeal for life again, I can feel the healing going on, and can do for myself so much my family had to do for me. I don't need to exercise because now I'm constantly on the move, I can stand up and walk around for hours at a time, as opposed to needing a chair at the sink just to get dishes done... no longer pre-diabetic, no longer in constant debilitating pain, I can see the bones in my legs and feet again, all because I don't have excessive insulin flooding my body. Never mind going from size 28/30 to size 18 in a bit less than a year's time Look outside the box, Jillian. It's not CICO, it's the insulin and the need to keep THAT under control.
I've done her burn fat boost metabolism for years, watching what I ate. Ended up seeing results after I cut calories to 800 to 1000 with 3 hour workouts 4-5 times a week complete with inflammation in my joints and misery. Started keto and IF and now no joint pain, I workout less and save myself so time AND I'm not Hangry! Because I'm fat adapted. It's beautiful.
@@JillianMichaels what side effects on keto??.. I think you shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about .. .. been on keto for 3 years and I'm in my best shape ever.. . .. are you a doctor?? oh you're not.. ...
I feel like Jillian isn’t saying DONT EVER DO INTERMITTENT FASTING, I got the vibe that she’s saying calories in vs calories out is what matters more, which I think is true. If I do intermittent fasting and eat 2700 calories during my eating window I know I’m going to gain weight. It doesn’t matter that I’m fasting for longer, my body would have excess energy that would be stored as fat. I actually have been doing the 16:8 intermittent fasting split for the past 3 months and I absolutely love it. I love it because limiting my eating window to 8 hours restricts me from snacking all day like I used to. It works for me because it LIMITS MY CALORIE INTAKE. The first month I was eating moderately and not tracking my intake and I maintained my weight (which is a huge bonus because I even struggle with maintaining). The second and third month I tracked what I ate to ensure I was under 1900 calories (with appropriate macro breakdown) and I slowly started losing weight. I’m happy it even has the anti-aging benefits that she talked about. If I was like Jillian and can eat a normal amount of calories for 12 hours per day like she does, I absolutely would but I know for me, I need to restrict my eating window because I can eat and eat and eat. Isn’t that most people’s problem? And with calories in vs calories out, she obviously means very high quality nutritious foods. Clearly she isn’t saying calories in vs calories out even if it’s McDonald’s. Look at her, she is in the best shape because she is eating pretty damn healthy, while I’m sure most in the comments section (Like myself) are not in the absolute best shape. We’re here to listen to someone in the health and fitness industry share their opinion so we can possibly use their advice to better our health. Also with the whole keto diet, people have very strong opinions. If it works for you and you lost weight and feel great, that’s absolutely fantastic and you should continue if that works for you and you’re happy. Personally a diet that makes me feel guilty for eating a banana, an apple, a sweet potato, pineapple etc doesn’t work for me. AND THATS OKAY. You shouldn’t get that worked up over the fact that other people don’t do keto lol. Every body is different and we’re all just trying to figure ours out. I also feel like Jillian is all about a well diverse diet in quality foods which is a very simple solution to lose weight, but everyone is attacking her in the comments because while “it’s simple” it’s actually extremely hard because food is too damn good. So there’s my rant that honestly doesn’t matter, but I felt like avoiding my studying to type this out.
100% correct. This woman is trying to make a profit selling weight lose advice. Unfortunately fasting doesn't necessitate any avenues for exploiting. Keto with 20/4 intermittent fasting with the odd OMAD (one meal a day) rocks. I now add sweet potatoes and other lower glycemic carbohydrates to my last meal after dropping from 320 lbs to 200 now just tightening up and working on strength and definition. I rest my case!
I am a guy with a low metabolism. I lost 17 pounds in 2 months following intermittent fasting without having a calorie deficit. The changes I made to diet included no sugar (in any form) except for a few fruits. No refined flour, no polished rice. I did go a bit of low carb I would say, and tried to consume as much organic food and organic meat.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon and liver cancer 4 years ago,was given 8 months to live.I went for 2 ops and by doiing keto and fasting I am still clean.I can see the shock in my doctors eyes on check ups.If Keto and fasting is done correctly one can heal your body.Carbs very unhealthy.
no. carbs is casting a HUGE net. there are MANY different types of carbohydrates. processed grains and refined sugars aren't good. An apple is very healthy.
@@JillianMichaels some of us do just fine without apples. And calorie restriction comes easily and naturally with satiety. This comes easily when fat adapted. I eat once a day most days. Fast for 24 hours occassionally and I'm never hungry. I've never been healthier.
I love Intermittent Fasting. I fast 20hrs and eat 2 meals within the remaining 4 hour window. 2 Meals are big and has helped me lose 100lbs. typical fasting is 16/8. anything less is not intermittent fasting unless your working into a 16/8 or more. Intermittent fasting is not Breakfast.
I know, you see one left a mean comment and the rest had to follow, a bunch of followers. Where did all the leaders go, and does anyone have a mind of there own. @Susan Sealy I just think we may be kind and polite even when we disagree with someone. I am a lawyer not a doctor so hard for me to provide a valid opinion on all these issues... But I am human and I felt all those insults where not really necessary. That being said, I wish you a lovely day and hope you are well and safe, Christine
@Susan Sealy I think the analogy with Hitler is a bit odd. But I am not here to have you change your mind. If you think it is appropriate for people to be rude, then do you.
Jillian, it is perfectly fine to say " my knowledge is outdated. I need to look into keto to help my clients to give the best information to improve their life. " people would respect you and know that they are in good hands when it comes to getting the right information from you.
Much like Prof Tim Noakes did when he tore out the page on Carbo loading in his book, the lore of running. So much respect for people who can admit when they're wrong! We can all learn from that in our daily lives.
Two minutes in she states carbohydrates are nutrients. I stopped there. There is no such thing as a essential carbohydrate. Who’s your corporate sponsor Jillian?
I must admit...First time I heard about fasting I was as ignorant as Jillian here. But then I decided to give it a try. I fasted for 2 days and ran 5 km both days and tested my blood glocuse on the 3rd day right after waking up. Guess what...it read 88mg/dl. I'm like how in the world is my bloodglucose normal as if I havent fasted for the past 2 days? Then I found out about gluconeogenisis and from that moment on I cut out all the carbs from my diet. Lost 15kg so far in 3 months and I dont know why I even watch this womans videos anymore. She has a huge amount of recourses to her disposal but chooses to remain ignorant on this matter. For whoever read my entire comment trust me...just cut out carbs and go into a caloric deficit and you WILL lose weight. Don't waste your money on people like jullian pretending to be experts. With the power of the internet we now know better!
@@JillianMichaels Carbs are just a source of energy, glucose, which is converted to glycogen, stored by your muscles and liver and also used by your brain but your body can produce glycogen out of protein and even your own cells(while fasting, ie. not eating) if you don't get it through food. Sure Carbs are great if you work out a lot and need that extra little kick of energy, when your muscles run out of glycogen but outside of intense workouts there is no real need for the quick energy boost that carb sources provide. In the end the excess will be stored as fat anyway and it's much, much easier to overeat on carbs(especially in form of bread, cake and whatever junk comes to mind) than on LCHF food.
No, calories are not the main influencer for weight gain or weight loss. Hormones are. IF helps regulate some of them, if you like it or not 🤷♀️ Countless studies proved that already.
Calories will always count. There is no way that you can eat more than what your body needs and lose weight. Please provide a study that states that calories don’t count, until then, please read up on it, it’s basic science, love it or hate it.
IF and low carb has been sustainable for me while using intuitive eating during my eating window. I workout 30 minutes while fasting. My doctor, labs, and physique shows it's done wonders. I feel great! I agree to disagree with Jillian, but I still use her programs during my fasting workout; everyone's entitled to their opinion. It gets iffy when people try to place everyone in a scientific bubble. Some people may benefit from her opinion.
well, she is selling carbs as a living. She has to be biased. Tell her that carbs trigger insulin, the stockage hormone. Not all calories are the same #teamketo
I think you have to stress that this is what works for you to MAINTAIN your weight because you’re already healthy. But this won’t work for those who really need to lose weight. Also, quality of food is important. Specifically amount of carbs
I've been doing IF for 18 years as a aerial acrobat and later as I lifted more. Health is better than ever as I near 50. Hormones are perfect. I don't listen to Jillian. I listen to the real deals.
@@jadedpotato1574 I've been on Keto for 3 years and 5 months. This was before it became wildly popular. I am not an exception either, as there are many many people who have been continuing to lose weight and keep it off. But here's the thing...absolutely nothing is sustainable if you choose to go back to the standard american diet. If any other diet works for someone, then that's great. If Keto works then that's great too.
@yandrsupreme Could you please cite your source/study please. I just came across one from the British Medical Journal where they conducted a meta-analysis of 1000 participants and the result was that the ketogenic diet had no impact on the kidneys other than stone formations which were mainly from those who were genetically predisposed and for those with minimal uptake of fluid consumption. Furthermore, leading kidney specialist/nephrologist Dr. Jason Fung actually advocates the ketogenic diet.
Bret Hart - Exactly, there’s much more money to be made by pumping up Americans full of crappy junk food and then surgically repairing them with operations and lots of drugs. Welcome to capitalism.
Unbelievable! I don't even have to refer to science, my own experience has taught me that all calories are not equal (I am over sensitive to carbs), that fasting works for me for losing weight. How does Jillian conclude that IF does not help weight loss?
This is your second offense in spreading misinformation. Please study more. Calorie in calorie out works on inanimate object. But when it comes to hormones and eating schedules, you can't fight insulin. It matters what you eat, it doesn't matter when you eat, it definitely matters how long you eat. Look at your like dislike ratio, and truly reflect please.
GENERAL FOODS and NABISCO Whole Grains !! woohoo !!! you know who else eats whole grains as part of their diet ?,,,,,CATTLE. way to fatten everyone up Jillian so they become desperate for any guru like you
I’m seeking to educate myself, please send me the clinical evidence that suggest Keto (without a calorie deficit) is better than balanced diet that includes fruits, veggies and whole grains for weight loss. I simply cannot find any, though I do see it can be beneficial for the disabled or obese. If I were able to find this information I would give keto a go, but it seems to me that it involves multiple barriers and variables that make it quite undesirable unless I plan on doing it forever.
It doesn't matter what the quality of food is it's calories in calories out is she having a laugh I might just go on a diet now an get all my food from MC Donald's
@@followyourideas well yes but the modern eat less move more idealism destroys your base metabolic rate ,you will gain your weight back over time even though you eat less than before like the biggest loser contestants. Weight gain and loss is a hormonal problem which is why diabetics type 2 who take insulin pack on the weight even though they eat the same foods as before, fix the hormone imbalance such as insulin resistance with fasting and low carb (no calorie restriction / starvation) your weight will go back to normal for your body type. Fasting has been proven to increase metabolism just after 2 days of water fasting reference Dr Jason Fung
Intermittent fasting has absolutely been effective for helping me lose weight. How? Because the ability to stay with a diet is the most important part of ANY diet. The fasting sets clear parameters and effectively eliminated any urge I had to snack at night, which turns out was the difference in calorie intake that I needed.
I think she's soooooo tired of preaching the saaame things over and over. "calories in, calories out". For weight loss, at the very end of the Day.... That's what it ALL boils down to. I've tried EVERYTHING and she's 100% correct.
No it's not, you are saying this because you don't understand the role of hormones in weight loss. But the good thing is that you can always learn and there's plenty of free and good info on the internet. The info Jillian provides is outdated and wrong. If you are willing to listen to other points of view I'd suggest Dr. Sten Ekberg, Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Eric Berg.
Jillian, I can accept that this is your personal opinion. I would like for you to comment on the research done on IF and keto. Have you looked into this more scientifically?
In my case, intermittent fasting, cold showers and then I was suddenly awake and full of energy, it unchained a series great things in my life, better food choices, exercise, discovered paddle boarding and i love it, i feel so hungry for the outdoors and nature, it’s awesome. Now over 20 pounds lost and I don’t see this ending soon!
Most people want quick fixes, easy way out, not willing to eat right and exercise. I agree with Julian, I eat healthy and exercise during the day. And fast while sleeping. Obviously she's doing something right, because her body looks incredible. Stay away from the sweets, alcohol, bad fat, fried foods, sodas, drink plenty of water and get off your fat asses and move! It's just that simple.
Wow.. So much mis-information. I lost 100 pounds doing keto (which you tried to debunk) and adding intermittent fasting (now you are trying to debunk). Hey lets eat every 3 to 4 hours so we can consistently keep our insulin high.
Smh...this comment section is ridiculous. She never mentioned Keto in this video, but for some reason almost every comment is mentioning Keto. Also, she never once said IF doesn't work. Hell...she never said Keto doesn't work either. All she did in this video was break down how IF works and what she recommends if you're going to do it. All the team Keto people won't even take the time to hear others opinions. I feel like you all think that Keto is the only way. There are other ways to lose weight besides cutting carbs.
IF is so much more effective for calorie control than eating 3-4 square meals a day. It's too easy to go over your daily calories with 3 meals plus a snack, than it is with 2 meals per day. I've been doing an 18:6 IF for nearly 6 months, with a 24 hour fast every 2nd Sunday, and lost nearly 2 stone. Surprised to hear a so-called "fitness coach" say it doesn't matter how healthy your calories are. She of all people should know that lean protein, healthy fats and complex carbs are way better for you than junk food.
The other day I read that the best diet is the Mediterranean diet followed by the DASH diet. Not sure why many people keep bringing up the Keto diet and IF. All I hear her say is Eat healthy and exercise. Why so many people are so nasty towards her?
G P - The results speak for themselves. Calorie restriction diet do not work that has been proven by hundreds of studies. IF. and Keto do work. Do some research where they explain the biochemistry. See Jason Fung and Stan Ekberg. You have been sold a pack of lies in the past 50 years. Largely from the medical misinformation industry that wants to sell you anti-cholesterol drugs and the FDA which promoted big agricultural grain producers at the expense of Americans health. At best, Julian is a symptom of the misinformed masses of “health experts “ and training advisers Who all have an ax to grind in promoting their profitable version of the status quo. “ just keep eating low-fat foods”. I actually remember seeing on the rapper of a Hersheys bar 20 years ago “A low-fat” food as well as on Entenmanns chocolate donuts. It’s all about the profit motive.
Breakfast every other day, clean carbs like fruit and veggies, 16/8 IF schedule since May 2019, have lost 45lbs doing 3-4 hrs of exercise throughout the week. Probably could have lost more but I’m only 5lbs from my goal weight. The eating habits and less psychological cravings are what have changed me the most.
Sadest thing is that she is so ignorant & lazy to do proper research. People still need to exercise for their health so it shouldn't really affect her income. Mind you, some people never have enough money or fame.. Also sitting next to kitchen sink makes you lose weight or look cool. ua-cam.com/video/_LkU_gxO7tk/v-deo.html
You guys in the comments are dumb.. shes not saying its bad.. shes just saying it isnt what causes you to lose weight.. its calories in vs calories out. If you eat the same amount of calories in a 24 hour period, no matter when your eating window is.. your weight will be the same. Keto is the same way.. if your total calories is the same.. your weight will be the same. People may experience weight loss on both because naturally.. for keto: people naturally get most of their calories from carbs so when they do keto.. they will most likely eat less overall calories. On fasting: most people will probably not have the stomach to eat as much calories in a shorter window so they will eat less naturally.. there you go. Jillian is right though
Wrong wrong all calories aren’t equal I eat almost 3000 calories a day I’m still losing weight I don’t work out out more than 10 mins a day I eat low carb high fat have lost 40 lbs in 9 months and am still losing 5/9 165 lbs 60 yrs old it is also impossible to know the realative calories in anything by your comment if I went to 1500 calories a day I’d lose 80 lbs in the same time I don’t think so also what if I ate 1500 calories of candy ??? Its a disproven theory they gave prisoners 500 cal for 6 months in the 1940s they barely lost 20% of there weight !, by the way I fast 16-17 hours everyday
Easy said for a person who can eat small amounts of food every 2-3 hours. I gain weight eating that way. Every time I eat, I eat a larger amount of food and a larger amount of calories. So IF helps me eat less meals which equals less calories.
While I disagree some with some of what she says, i think a lot of people in the comments somehow think that she is against IF, when it seems clear to me tht she is all for it. I have read about the cellular benefits she is discussing and it sounds right to me and in accord with studies. Not sure why people on here are saying she is downing IF when she is trying to explain her take on it, which seems valid to me. The only part of what she's saying that I think is not as black and white as she says is that it's ONLY a matter of calories and it doesn't matter what the quality is of those calories.

Thanks Jillian! Because of you, I lost all my baby weight. 45 pounds an have kept it off for 8 years. Two years ago, I started a combination of low carb and IF (about 13 hrs) and it has worked for me to help maintain my weight. I work out to get a toned body. But I had also journaled EVERYTHING I ate for 2 years to see what foods work for me and what didn't. Not all veggies work well for me and I bloat up quickly, so I avoid those. Journaling helps in many ways, like I gain weight certain times of the month, wink wink.... So now I don't stress when I see it go up a few pounds. Mindset is everything.
CICO is a huge oversimplification of a very complex process influenced by many factors. Your metabolism changes based on a lot of things. Quality of food does make a difference. 500 calories of carbs is not the same to your body as 500 calories of protein and fat.

If people found out the truth that they could be healthy and lose weight with IF alone people like Jillian would be out of a job... Hence her message would be my guess 🤷🏽♀️
2 years 100lbs. I train 2 hours a day. Pre workout meal, 2 moderate meals after. Sometimes I eat trash like fried chicken, pizza, chips. My main diet is a lot of greens and meat but when I crave trash I eat it. I love my 16 hour fast.
Yep 15 lbs down from IF and it’s very sustainable. Only have been doing it 1 month and will have fun proving Jillian wrong with my black coffee and water and eating whatever calories I want
I'm just an average guy, I don't eat keto or particularly well, but I have been fasting for 2 months with an average eating window of 8-10 hours per day, also threw in a 60 hour effort at the beginning. Combined with some regular exercise I've dropped about 10kgs. Fasting absolutely works, especially if you have a problem with sugar cravings. You mention at the start that humans fasted for thousands of years, there's your clue that our bodies have evolved to eat once or twice daily. There is also no mention on the effects insulin has on the body, too much of this hormone in the blood will block fat burning and will facilitate sugar conversion into fat. This is the main reason fasting is so effective when it comes to weight loss, lowering insulin levels for long enough to allow the body to access stored fats for energy, studies prove this is effective, if you're going to provide advice and opinions, have some scientific facts to back you claims up with.
Someone is trying to protect their "fitness empire" The rest of us understand Keto, Intermittent Fasting, and Carnivore WORKS She's trying to sell you her products, just look in the video description.
Well. It's her bread and butter. Most nutritionists are outdated and sell the CICO + workout as the best way to lose weight. New data shows hypocaloric diets can slow your metabolism quite bad, that physical exercise tho super healthy it only represents a small % of the weight loss process, and that tho exaggerated IF just WORKS and it's overall great.
Searching all over for your links to studies that prove what you say.....can't find any. Oh!, this is purely your opinion....I'm afraid your proof is in all the people on Biggest Loser that gained all their weight back!
I really don’t understand some of the comments left here, Jillian is explaining the benefits of fasting , but also the fact that excess calories will make you wait gain regardless of fasting or not. Most people loose weight when fasting because they are eating less so less calories. If you fast, then gorge / binge eat, then you won’t loose weight, not unless you are exercising/ burning enough of those excess calories off, which is generally very hard to do. Fasting with attention to correct calorie balance of consumed against expended is the key. The quality of the calories is the other factor correctly high lighted. Good nutrition equals good health and that is the message I am hearing here 👍🙏
I am trully overwhelmed! Not by the video which has everything pretty well back to front and upside down and inside out, which is a considerable achievement in itself. But by the overwhelming number of comments from people who have discovered and experienced the joys of intermittent fasting, keto and carnivore 👍.
What she is saying makes sense the only way to lose weight is calories in and calories out. The reason I think people lose weight it because they are not eating as much as they use too when not doing IF. For myself as an example I eat waaay less when I am doing IF because eventually I am not as hungry as I used to be. Also if you do IF and your eating recklessly your not going to lose weight because I have done that as well.
JIllian, I don't get your reluctance to accept that not everyone has the same lifestyle you do. One size fits all when it comes to weight loss and maintenance just doesn't work. You and the diet industry have proven it over and over again. We are starting to finally understand what is needed to reverse the obesity, diabetes and heart disease trends but people like you continue to insist that yours is the only way, despite the overwhelming evidence that has accumulated. Out of all the encouraging stories I have seen in the comments, I have not seen you once congratulate someone for reversing years of pain and suffering. All you seem to care for is selling your diet app.
Calories in and out work for you , I believe every one s different your blessed with good genes I’m not I tried your way and it didn’t work keto/paleo IF worked for me , good day
She is right about food quality. But I’ve been keto since 2013 and started IF in 2018. And for me personally it’s been a game changer. I was on birth control for over 15 years and didn’t get a cycle for over half a year. That’s when I started IF and it was the first time I could track my cycle to prevent pregnancy. I want to quit birth control because two close relatives died of cancer in 2018 and I was trying to be healthier. If you have to look for what works for you and what you stay on long term. But blood work has been perfect and mental clarity on point from keto. My blood pressure did drop from 120/70 to 90/50 but it was a direct response to my IF. Never felt bad just increased my salt intake and it returned to normal. I hope this helps someone.
IF works for everything you mention plus WEIGHT LOST (YES!), my personal experience I lost 13 pounds in less than one month doing OMAD and keeping my normal routine, once again, it works! If you do not understand how intermittent fasting works and its benefits you shouldn't give any kind of advice on the subject.
I just watched Dr. Ekberg's video about this video. Can't believe she said it doesn't matter how healthy the food is that your eating. Calories in - Calories out? Comparing us to a bear! Really? There are too many variables for each person that what works for her isn't going to work for everybody.
I was doing IF 20:4 along with Keto. I had to give up doing IF as I was losing too much weight. I was not and am not fat. Currently 72kg, working hard to keep the weight on as I'm still doing Keto. If is really good for longevity and autophagy.
Listen to Dr Eric Berg on intermittent fasting. He’s helping so many people on this very topic because he shows compassion and empathy towards people. All of interviews with people allow them to speak without any interruptions 😊
@JillianMichaels until you get a degree in and license to practice as a dietitian or nutritionist, you should stop committing felony crimes by practicing medicine without a license and selling bogus health supplements.
And just so you know, I’m on keto and intermittent fasting for less than a year and I lost 40kg and I weight 61kg now. I don’t do much exercise except walking a few times a week. I never counted calories but I eat very low carb. I eat a lot of keto approved foods lol. I was prediabetic and reversed it. Daily migraines and joint pains were gone. IBS gone. High blood pressure gone. Arrhythmia gone. Ankle pains and shoulder pains gone. Insomnia gone. Mood disorders and depression gone. GERD gone 100pct. I fast for 36 hours without getting hungry. My quality of life improved so much I feel like a teenager. I’m 42 and I look like 19. Meanwhile, your calories in and calories out will age you in no time.
Spot on!!!!...i do the same...evry 4 hours my body actually asks for some food....and i feed it...always listen to your body...my father taught me that....it works...thank you Gillian
train your body to fasting, as NATURE intended. 2.5 millions year of evolution. You crave food every 4 hours because the food industry have made the processed food ADICTIVE, SUGAR is addictive, but if you cut it, you wont crave it after a couple days..
This is for someone who wants to give this a go,I'm telling you this really works I have lost 6 kg in one month and for that I didn't have to starve myself, it will be tough for few days in the beginning but you'll get used to it .so go for it because it really works!!!!
If thermodynamics was true in humans why is my weight stable I don’t do any cardio granted I don’t eat 3000 everyday but I eat to satiation 2 times a day no snacking only whole food meat and veg fish never allow yourself to get hungry that turns on hormones which tell your body to store fat I’m 60 and I weigh what I did when I was 25 and working out 4 days a week ps all my blood numbers are great 10 months ago I was metabolically screwed now I’m back on track never tired no more pm naps
This woman is so ignorant on how the human body behaves with insulin, proteins and carbs. She needs to take a time machine and come back to the year 2019!
Bears fast for like 6 month's when they come out how much weight has the bear lost? Aka prolonged fasting. And yes a calorie is a calorie but how they work in the body are completely different like cruciferous food help lower estrogen in the body and make you feel satisfied where as soda you could drink way more and not get any benefits and have health complications over a long period of time that's a big difference.
well they actually did amazing with the weight loss program of diet and exercise. their issues are emotional. they use food as a coping mechanism - very much like someone would use drugs, alcohol, compulsive spending. and like any other addiction people can relapse. that said, over 60% of the contestants kept their weight off. which is a huge number. the statistics show 95% of the people who lose gain it back - in part for the reason I just mentioned - no matter the diet.
@@JillianMichaels I'm not going to dismiss emotional issues when it comes to weight loss but it's also very convenient and I'm certain not backed by data to blame it all on that. Have you looked at the general American population? Obesity is skyrocketing. Is it all because people have emotional issues? Are Americans just weak minded, lacking motivation and unwilling to try. No, the diet industry is a highly lucrative business, you would know that. People have been trying for years and years and it's not working. Rather than blame the person for their 'failures' at losing and keeping it off perhaps it's time to look at the 'calorie and out' claim more in depth. If you want to do a video on intermittent fasting I suggest you spend a lot of time looking into what Dr. Jason Fung has to say on the topic. Look at why calorie restriction reduces metabolism, increases the hunger hormone gherilin and turns off the satiety signal in our brain. Look at how insulin prevents our body from burning our fat stores. Understand authopaghy. Admit that calorie counting is at best a guesstimate. No one can be accurate. Research how carbs, fat and protein effect your body in relation to insulin levels and why calories alone isn't an explanation. Your body has a very different response to 500 calories of cake vs almonds. At the end of the day, when the solution isn't working, it's not time to blame the victim, it's time to take a hard look at the advice being offered. I suggest you watch this 6 part series called the Aetiology of Obesity. ua-cam.com/video/YpllomiDMX0/v-deo.html
@@natalieroy4849 well said Natalie. I bet jillian comes back and says dr Jason feung doesn't know what he's talking about. There's no money for her in keto and IF
Well she's not completely wrong people, after all if you fast for days and you eat huge amounts when you break your fast how is it gonna work? I do over eat when i break my fast which is why i don't lose weight as i should be (if i lost any) Plus IF is just regulating the times of your meals and sometimes quality and quantity come along(plus all the benefits ofc), but it's all up to you then
Yeah in theory you would lose weight. However if you're just consuming junk (low in protein, high in refined sugar) the chances are you wouldn't be able to stick to 2000 calories, as these foods are less filling and spike your blood sugar (leading to the inevitable crash, and subsequent cravings for more). Plus, from a general health point of view (slim people can be unhealthy too), you would do a lot of damage to your heart, liver, teeth and brain if you just consumed cookies, cakes and coke all day, regardless of if you were in a calorie deficit and losing weight.
Amen! Great response.
Same here. Mindless snacking was putting on pounds but IF changed that
I’ve been keto for two years, and started IF, about 6 months ago.
@BailyGagliano what are the times you consume food 🤔 please?

Nah not for me & many people still. Because how boring is life without activity & 4 times a day of good food. Goddamn.
Gabriela Martinyuk nothing by itself makes you toned and ripped right I haven’t eaten 3 meals for a few months only 1-2 and I can’t lift a lot but its the strongest I’ve been
...what???
Gabriela Martinyuk exercise is important, but your body doesn’t necessarily need as much of it or the intensity most people think. Also, if you’re obese, losing the weight is ultra important, even if you’re still “skinny fat” in the end. Is it ideal? No. But it’s huge.
I do 18 to 20 hour fast daily, not on Keto, walk for 60 min a day and lost over 30 lbs since July 2019. Eat what I want....

She knows her stuff, she just doesnt want to lose money
Did you do 16:8? Did you change your diet? I am trying to do the same
Completely disagree with your logic ! I’ve been doing IF and yes it does work and it’s the best thing ever !!!!
Its a tool, not a miracle

Major BS

With the power of the internet we now know better!
they are MACRO NUTRIENTS - micro nutrients are vitamins and minerals. do a little homework. it's super basic nutrition.
If you eat fish meat eggs and greens you’ll get all the macro nutrients you need carbs are nonessential as listed by the fda
@@JillianMichaels Nah you need to do a lot of homework. How were you in charge of peoples weight loss? Pathetic
I’ve been losing shit loads of pounds really fast eating low carb, and IF 20:4. It’s working for me, so I’m definitely going to continue.
No, calories are not the main influencer for weight gain or weight loss.
Hormones are.
IF helps regulate some of them, if you like it or not 🤷♀️
Countless studies proved that already.
This is a sad comment:/
There is no nutrition science bro
Calories will always count. There is no way that you can eat more than what your body needs and lose weight. Please provide a study that states that calories don’t count, until then, please read up on it, it’s basic science, love it or hate it.
LOL
Lmaooo
IF and low carb has been sustainable for me while using intuitive eating during my eating window. I workout 30 minutes while fasting. My doctor, labs, and physique shows it's done wonders. I feel great! I agree to disagree with Jillian, but I still use her programs during my fasting workout; everyone's entitled to their opinion. It gets iffy when people try to place everyone in a scientific bubble. Some people may benefit from her opinion.
Am i the only one who found this useless and 100% biased?
Emanuel Armando no because it definitely is biased
well, she is selling carbs as a living. She has to be biased. Tell her that carbs trigger insulin, the stockage hormone. Not all calories are the same #teamketo
Opinions are just that, biased. So you, Jillian, myself and everyone else here are 100% biased.
Tell me about it 😕😕😕
Kurt Lyon 😂 so true. Everyone on here thinking their opinion is FACT.
Every time someone loses a pound on keto and IF, Jillian loses money.
Bret Hart keto works for sometime, but it’s not a sustainable lifestyle.
@yandrsupreme I'm still waiting for a source from you where a long term study conclusively proved kidney damage from keto.

Who is paying you to tell all this outdated info? Please educate yourself! ! I am on keto and IF for 11 years and I am super healthy at 60.

Eric Berg.
What she said⬆️
Jillian, I can accept that this is your personal opinion. I would like for you to comment on the research done on IF and keto. Have you looked into this more scientifically?
Jillian is very intelligent. This is why she compared Humans to Bears. We both have the same body, digestive system & lifespan
Wow! I bet that bear lost a ton of weight when he practiced Intermittent Fasting while sleeping for 6 months!
LOL.
Well that's not really IF, just regular ole fasting.

Intermittent Fasting is a great tool for losing weight but it's not the entire picture. I intermittent fast 16/8 and I love it.
Wow.. So much mis-information. I lost 100 pounds doing keto (which you tried to debunk) and adding intermittent fasting (now you are trying to debunk). Hey lets eat every 3 to 4 hours so we can consistently keep our insulin high.

You need to check your facts Jillian. You’re inaccurate with what you’re talking about.

😅
What she is saying makes sense the only way to lose weight is calories in and calories out. The reason I think people lose weight it because they are not eating as much as they use too when not doing IF. For myself as an example I eat waaay less when I am doing IF because eventually I am not as hungry as I used to be. Also if you do IF and your eating recklessly your not going to lose weight because I have done that as well.
you tell em girl!!!! those fat burners wont sell themselves !!!

Okay Jillian and her thinking is for some people put not everyone for me she's wrong so I will keep it moving ......
Comparing a bear physiology to a human!😂😂😂
How well did Jillian do with the biggest loser contestants? All but one regained the weight. Enough said.
well they actually did amazing with the weight loss program of diet and exercise. their issues are emotional. they use food as a coping mechanism - very much like someone would use drugs, alcohol, compulsive spending. and like any other addiction people can relapse. that said, over 60% of the contestants kept their weight off. which is a huge number. the statistics show 95% of the people who lose gain it back - in part for the reason I just mentioned - no matter the diet.

Plus IF is just regulating the times of your meals and sometimes quality and quantity come along(plus all the benefits ofc), but it's all up to you then
I guess I can eat 2000 calories a day of cookies, cakes and Coke and as long as I burn more than 2,000 calories a day I'll lose weight. Awesome.
Why is there so many dislikes intermittent fasting is hard to get into but it's great
