    I'm used to playing a much lighter tension string gauge but after trying these D'Addario Pro-Arte EJ46FF High Tension Carbon Strings out on my Taylor Academy 12e-N I actually really like the feel and sound of them and will probably stick with them for now.
    They are well balanced across the basses and trebles and the carbon trebles have an almost bell like ring to them.
    They're also the strings that Taylor factory fit on all of their nylon string guitars so I guess that's say a lot for them anyway although I do have some more strings lined up to try in the future ;)
    As always if you found this review useful don't forget to give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my UA-cam channel so you don't miss out on any classical string reviews I do in the future :)

    Wow after hearing you play i cancelled my order on another set of strings and ordered these! I've gotten lazy and been using ball ends but sounds like these strings are worth the extra effort. Thanks !

      Hi Rich, yes they're beautiful strings, well worth the extra effort of tying the knots and they last forever!
      Let me know how you get on with them 👍

      It's really a matter of personal choice. I'm a big fan of D'Addario strings and use them on all of my guitars but you really have to experiment yourself to find your favorite sound.
      A lot will also depend on the make of your guitar, the tonewoods used and your style of playing.
      Let me know how you get on with the Savarez strings

    Thanks for the video, I bought the very same guitar and just changed the strings for the first time (6 months) was a bit nervous to try manually tying the knots on and ended up going with the Folk Ball ends, From A'addario, next time I'll have to bite the bullet and give it a go as I did really like the high tension.

      Hi Harry
      I put the D'Addario EJ32C Ball End Nylon Strings on my Flamenco guitar when I first changed the strings for exactly the same reason but although I did like them and they made changing the strings much easier I preferred the sound and volume of the high tension carbon strings so I made the effort to learn how to tie nylon/carbon strings and it was well worth the effort.
      I've actually reviewed the D'addario EJ32C Ball End Nylon Strings Here: ua-cam.com/video/wF3fxt4ijs8/v-deo.html
      I also fitted them to my Ovation Celebrity Steel String Guitar and did a review that you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/Y3rrM4cKVBg/v-deo.html
      In my experience learning to tie standard nylon strings is well worth the effort and will give you much more choice when it comes to choosing the right strings for your guitar and style of playing 😊

    Drinking water with baking soda in it may help your joints. If your pH is less than 7 that could be the cause of sore joints. I use 1/2 tsp twice a day in a glass of water.

    Howdy from western Colorado! Good review. I'll try these strings next go-around on my Alverez Classical. I haven't been all that happy with the strings installed by my very EXCELLENT local guitar shop. (Starrs Guitars). They kind of sound like ukulele strings to me.

    Hi do these strings help with buzz please help me out I’m stuck I keep getting buzz with my old strings will these help me out? I get a lot of buz on my e string 1st fret thanks

    • @AlanRoyHocking
      @AlanRoyHocking  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Alireza, fitting higher tension strings will reduce minor buzzes in some cases because it will pull the neck up slightly making the action higher but you should really take the guitar to a qualified luthier or guitar technician and have the action set up properly.

    Are you able to switch to a normal tension string with out any buzzing?

    • @AlanRoyHocking
      @AlanRoyHocking  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Morris, in most cases yes unless your action is set absolutely at its minimum with high tension strings
      I switched to the D'addario EJ45FF Normal Tension on my Taylor Academy 12e-N Nylon String without any problems
      I did a review of them here if you want to hear them: ua-cam.com/video/vhH4kHKkwa8/v-deo.html
      Unfortunately the only way to tell is to try them

    • @mpeltz1534
      @mpeltz1534 3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for your replay. Yes the action is set very low on this guitar. It was set up with hard tension strings. I think I would prefer the normal tension stings but need to get it set up by someone that knows how to set up nylon string guitars. Hard to find a good classical guitar Luthier. I take it you prefer the normal tension strings too. Even with low action I think normal tension strings would be easier to play. I have the same problem you do. I’m 70 and the old hands just aren’t as strong as they use to be. I’m playing 3 hour gigs and lots of practice sessions. Starting to take a toll. Thank you again for your help. Interesting discussion action vs string tension.

    • @AlanRoyHocking
      @AlanRoyHocking  3 роки тому +1

      The only thing you can do is try normal tension and see if it buzzes
      Unfortunately setting the action on a classical guitar is really best left to a professional luthier who knows what he's doing

    are all carbon strings high tension ?

    • @AlanRoyHocking
      @AlanRoyHocking  2 роки тому +1

      Carbon strings tend to be slightly higher tension than nylon strings but D'addario also do the EJ45FF normal tension carbon strings which have an overall set tension of 94.55 lbs you can see my review of them here: ua-cam.com/video/vhH4kHKkwa8/v-deo.html
      And the Knobloch Actives Double Silver CX Carbon 300 ADC strings are only 84.04 lbs overall tension. You can see my review of them here: ua-cam.com/video/rbOT-b7gAoA/v-deo.html

    What are the results if you have nylon bass and carbon treble ?

    • @AlanRoyHocking
      @AlanRoyHocking  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried mixing nylon basses with carbon trebles yet but I would imagine you would get mellow basses with crisp bright sounding trebles. I will try it and do a video for you in the future 👍

      @@AlanRoyHocking Thanks friend. I like the bass sound of nylon and the bell like treble sound of steel string but find the steel much harder to play - so I would like have a classical style guitar with nylon bass sound but trebles that sound more like steel string treble. Maybe your reviews will help.
