    Avocado trees grow fast when they don't really get too much sun..I moved my 2 potted ones into an area where they only get morning and early afternoon sun and they are growing nicely...leaves come out nice and green.

      Interesting, it really helps when you pay attention to these little details. Moving it over here really made a huge difference with this little guy. I'm wondering if it will bloom this season? How old are your avocado trees?

      Thats the nice thing about being mobile. Im also in a 9b area at 3000 foot elevation. When it gets hot mid July I start moving from south facing areas to the west or east side of the house. Even the North side starts getting too hot for potted avocados. Im just trying to grow them up more before putting them in the ground permanently. My neighbor has 4 Hass all about 5 years old. 2 in the ground on slopes that get lots of sun about 7 ft tall now doing fantastic and 2 in the shade of a big pine tree that are barely growing and lanky with very thin foliage. They need sun. If you can’t move them from the intense heat then get some shade cloth. Over to top. I remember when they planted lots of avocados in the canyons between city of Orange and Irvine every single one had a piece of shade over it.

    I grow a lot of trees in containers as well. If you haven’t tried Laguna Hills Nursery Top Pot potting soil I would highly recommend it for your fruit trees.

    I’m glad you did this video my tree was on the south side and it it got full sun and it has lost some of its color it’s in rehab

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  5 років тому

      Lol, rehab! Yup! When ever I get a new tree I place it where ever I want it and I pay close attention to it. If it thrives I'll leave it there but if I see any signs of distress I try to figure out what is cousin it and make adjustment. In this case I had to move it, and wala it love it's new spot.

    Wow! What a great job! I have two that I started last year. I was going
    to put them in the ground,but since I saw your video i think I'll transplant them in bigger pots and see how they do. Love your garden!😍

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  5 років тому +1

      Hi Yolanda, you might want to out them in a bigger container and when they get a little bigger you can out them in the ground. If you have the space so fire put them in the ground they will grow bigger and produce alot more. I don't have the space so container it is. If you read below there is a person whom said he has them in the ground but has shade clothe on it year round because it's a young tree.

    Nice! Remember when a plant wants more light it will grow stretch upwards trying to grow taller to where the light isn't obstructed. Maybe a sunscreen during summer on the south side would help keep it bushier.

    I just purchased a 5gal Mexicola Avocado tree for $20 grom Costco. The tag says it will grow 14ftH by 14ftW. It's a cold hearty variety in the mid teens.
    I will transfer it to a 15gal pot soon. Keep us updated ur tree.

I didnt want to spend to much money, specially not knowing if it would make it through the 1st winter. I like your plan, I think you will be setting it up for success. I purchase this three almost 2 years ago. Thank you for stopping by, ill make sure to continue to post updates on this tree. Have a great day.

    Im in Central California near the coast zone 9b and I have two mexicola grande avocados in containers and one lamb hass in a 40” wooden container that I made myself and they all flower when the temperatures get warmer after winter... Last year I had tons of flowers in late April and early May... make sure to use some fish fertilizer around March and it should blossom like crazy... Nice tree 🙂🙂

I live in southern California zone 9b too. however living near the coast you might be able to grow a lot more than me. We get very extreme heat here.

    Does it give fruite where snowing?what are winter tempeture?plz can you informe me about HASS avocado ?does it tolerate frost or tempeture 10~15 digree in winter season?

    • @kimhicks4781
      @kimhicks4781 2 роки тому

      Hass dosnt tolerate prolonged temperatures that low.Mexicola is much more cold hardy. Lila is a cold hardy smaller tree you could get online but expensive. Houston Nurseries carry it or check on line. Smaller tree at full maturity.Gem Hass is a smaller tree finally being sold at nurseries. It is said to taste better than Hass and a smaller tree more cold hardy that produces well every year where has produces well every year. Their are many great varieties of Avaçado. The Sir Prise is a B pollinator you can get at big box stores. Google Has and you will find out information. Hope this helps some for those looking for information. Too me a long time to finally get more information on these wonderful varieties of Avacados. Makes me want to have enough land to grow a lot of different varieties. F your trying to grow in cold temperature be sure to bring inside during cold weather. Before the cold weather water well and continue to spray tree with water. It's suppose to protect Avaçado from frost according to professional growers I follow. Haven't tried it myself. Wishing everyone luck in growing my favorite tree. Cheers🥂

    What type of soil are you using? Did you make your own potting soil?

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  5 років тому

      I used let over potting soils for for citrus and palm, Sure start from EB stone, a little compost, and worm castings. I hope that is helpful.

    • @WestValleyTransparency
      @WestValleyTransparency 5 років тому

      It definitely helps. I was recommended to use mainly cactus soil and I think that would be too much rock, too much drainage. I'm thinking your left over citrus soil has slightly less bio mater as time goes, more sand and fine rocks. I will see if that works. Thank you
