An orb weaver spider makes her web and catches a light snack. All filmed in our jungle garden. One cricket was harmed during the making of this video.
Thanks to the Alvarez family for discovering this spider next to their tent.
I 'discovered' that spiders eat their webs when I was filming it. At the end of the time-lapse you can almost see her eating the centre section of the web. I saw it clearly on the previous day when I filmed the detail shots of her making the web. In hindsight I should have got a better shot of it.
I have not got up early enough to observe the entire consumption but each morning it was like she was never there.
Unfortunately she has disappeared, probably taken by a bird. I don't see big ones like her very often. The introduction was filmed after she had gone, so my finger was in no danger.
Shot over four nights mostly with a 100mm bellows lens and custom built lighting. I found that I had to use LED lighting, she did not like the heat that the halogens produced. Also she was very sensitive to noise, moving around her was not problem but talking at normal volume would cause her to abort her web building and hide in her little leaf house.
Pulling focus was probably the trickiest part of the filming, the Minolta bellows and magic lantern features made this possible.
As payment to all the disturbance she got two juicy crickets thrown in her web.
Update: there are now quite a number of small orb weavers in the same tree perhaps her offspring.
    cheers, Marc.

Thanks, shot from my backyard over four hours, the stars come out rarely here but when they do it is stunning. Here is another vid. #10 - 4K Ultra HD Night Sky Time-lapse. Stars near the southern cross. Marc Griffith.

Beautiful... very well done. Brilliant end!!! Subscribed. That is quite impressive DOF for the magnifications. Can you enlighten me with your technique? Reverse?Tube?Bellows?Tilt Shift? In the night it must be hard to get to high fstops. Again... brilliant. Thank you Marc!

I’ve been doing a lot of hedge work, an enormous spider almost collided with my face in the back corner of my yard 😱 I guess I bothered it too much so now it’s relocated a web attaching to corners of my roof spanning 15’+ across right freakin next to my back door 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 want to get it to go back in the corner but not sure how to relocate and I’m not getting close enough to catch it, watching this made my heart race lol. Fantastic quality video and audio.. crunch crunch.

Hated the choppy editing of random things while the spider was eating, and I wish we could have seen how she takes her web down. Oh well. I'll keep looking for it.

Great work Marc, really enjoyed it. My kids will love these vids. Can I request that you say which country you're in in the vids (I think you're in South America?) and put the classical music artist, orchestra, and composer in the credits? (I used to be a professional classical musician and that stuff is interesting to nerds like me).

Dlearnt Thanks for the nice feedback. I have had others say that their kids like it too, so I will keep that in mind. Ecuador. Some have it in the credits, but I'll put the music in the description from now on. If I forget any let me know. I don't have a lot of information on the classical music but it all comes from the youtube audio library.
