- Returning the Gretsch 5427 to my brother Mike. The 5427, which apparently has become the new for 2022 redesigned 5420, features trestle bracing and the newly redesigned Filter'Tron FT-5E pickups. I've had the guitar since Christmas and did a full setup including installation of a new set of Thomastik flat wound strings. I was also able to compare this to my own Gretsch Electromatic 5420. I am sad to see it go, but it it was time to return it to Mike who was gracious to let me video him getting it back. He even played a few tunes. Thanks Mike and Sadie!
Equipment used
Amp: Fender '65 Princeton with alnico Jensen. Effects: amp reverb and tremolo.
Thanks for watching!

06:07 Dog barking over a blues lick... That's so blues.
Thank you so much for the channel and for the setup. I don’t think I know anyone more particular who pays more attention to detail! Keep it going!
Hey thanks man, and thanks for being in the video!
Awesom playing!
Brothers are special. Brothers and guitars... priceless.
Thanks for checking the video out Toney!
That fuzzy faced fella is pretty good.
Your brother can jam! Love the sound of the guitar!
Thanks for checking the video out Scott.
Cool 😅🎉😂❤😊
Great stuff👍
I'm loving your in depth look into this guitar, as i just bought one and I'm new to Gretsch and electric guitars. Thank you so much. I'm so excited to get my hands on my new guitar
Thanks for the comment Brad. The 5427/new 5420, is a great guitar and I really like the new FT-5E pickups. I hope yours is awesome!
Nice playin' Bro....
Cool dog, cool guitar and awesome playing! Thanks for sharing!……..(and I think I need a new Gretsch😂)
Thanks for the comment Dave!
I have a white one like that. Love it.
I feel the same as you and do think the pickups on the 5420 do sound a bit better. Thank You
Thanks for watching Gary.
Lovely tone on that Gretsch
Thanks Justice!
@@hoganshideout Yw. I'm a Gretsch owner as well. That is a sweet tone with those new trone. Good luck and enjoy!
Putting out here for the record that I'm subscriber no 279. For when you're in the hundreds of thousands...
Lol, thanks Simon. Thanks for checking the video out and for the comment!
best is the dog barking in the Backround.. could listen to the dog sing over the guitar playing all day..
Lol, she had had about all she could take by the end of the video.
I know that disguised maniac. It will be time to get loud soon, I hope
Did this one have open tuners? I got mine a few days ago and love it just was expecting better locking tuners.
Hi Dewayne. Yes the 5427 (and 5420) has open back tuners that seem to work fine. I do have the very nice locked Gretch branded Gotoh tuners on my G6228 though.
So after watching a couple of your videos. Which do you prefer? The 2022 or the older version. Both sound great.
I slightly prefer the green 5420 because the pickups are a little warmer. The 5420s have been great for a long time and I hate to see them change anything really. I'm sure the new revised models are going to be fine, though, but I'm also sure many people are going to want the previous MIK models.
Thanks for sharing this video! I have a question. I have this same G5427TG. On mine, the top of the body around the pickup toggle switch sinks down into the guitar. It’s noticeable. Does the guitar in your demo look like that? I doubt that Guitar Center inspected it before they shipped it.
Hi Gene. That doesn't sound right, but it's hard to say without seeing it. Head over to the Gretsch forum and sign up, if you are not a member, and post a photo there. Lot's of nice people hang out on that forum. www.gretsch-talk.com/forums/electromatic-gretsch-forum.23/
@@hoganshideout Thank you!
Im waiting for mine. It is currently in transit 😔
What case are you using for it? I've been looking for one, and I couldn't find one that didn't squish the hardware.
You have to turn the Bigsby arm down towards the back of the guitar (like the way the guitar was shipped), but this case works great: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/G6241Case--gretsch-g6241-16-inch-deluxe-hollowbody-electric-hardshell-case
Well this guitar certainly passed Sadie's sniff test! If a dog is ok with a guitar, so am I. I'm sold! Oh ya, it sounds nice too! I picked up the entry level 2420t, had to do a handful of minor things like the fret ends etc, but I got a smoking deal on it so it was fine by me! I really can't decide which one of the two you guys reviewed to get!
Thanks for checking the video out. The 5427 and 5420 are both great guitars and color would probably be the deciding factor for me. If you like the older style Blacktop Filter'Tron pickups then the previous generation 5420 is the one to get -- stores still have those available. Yeah, Sadie is a good dog!
I put 13s on my 5420 and with a flatwounds - they feel more like 12s. Curious what brand of flat ones you use?
TI Jazz flats 11-47. What set did you use? www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JS111--thomastik-infeld-jazz-swing-flatwound-electric-guitar-strings-light-011-047?mrkgadid=3332529216&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=0&mrkgcat=guitars&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700046938601135&lid=92700046938601135&ds_s_kwgid=58700005283398305&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007215323&dsproductgroupid=676781776274&product_id=JS111&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9012939&creative=332063179839&targetid=aud-377243944773%3Apla-676781776274&campaignid=1708733954&awsearchcpc=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAprGRBhBgEiwANJEY7E0gz-m77kO4_6jqWOcuryHPNAChIcZjqEFazcaOnKGwvhLShrqH1xoCBTwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I was expecting to hear someone play Alvin Lee's "Going Home" on a Gretsch. Just saying (dreaming?).
Does anyone know what song he is playing starting at 9:14 ? Thank you in advance 🙌🏼
