I like that gretsch has kept their prices pretty much the same as pre pandemic prices. I'll definitely be considering the G5422TG.
Yes they shifted Electromatic production from Korea to China and the prices are still the same.
@@zwidawurzn9423 a great guitar is still a great guitar regardless of where it’s made. If the quality is on par with the Eastman T486 (also made in china) then the price is justified.
@@TheJamison76 But that's probably the reason why they can keep their prices. Not saying chinese guitars are bad, most of them are actually quite good but still i don't like the idea of having a "made in China" guitar, especially when it costs like 1000€. It's probably more a personal thing, i want to support chinese economy as little as possible.
Same I got one and I was disappointed when I found out it was made in China . (Like many other things) but the quality is outstanding and it’s a beautiful and awesome good guitar .
I got one end of last year and it's a solid guitar. You'll love it (plus the one in white is 🤤)
You can play anything on a Gretsch...thats the beauty of them...and all models are great!
You got that right!!

I have a 2018 model of the 12-string, a gift from my lovely wife, who saw me gazing at it during a trip to the music shop for strings. It is the most playable guitar I've ever owned, and gets more play than all my other guitars combined. I was a full-time 12-string player before, but my Gretsch is next level. Definitely would recommend, but get your own. I ain't sharing.
I've had my Gretsch hollow body several years now and I've found it very inspiring. I can definitely recommend them for any genres shy of metal if you want something completely different from the standard solid body guitars. They feel and sound so different, it makes me play differently.
Love the way Pete just says what he's thinking. Even if it's all the reasons not to buy the 12 string guitar that strictly he's meant to be convincing the viewer to order from Andertons!
But that honesty is why people like the shows and trust them enough to buy things from them without ever going to the shop.
I think it’s a first time though. I’ve always felt he was kind of acting at times, but you can definitely tell when he is amazed.
Pity about Lee though, he so often tries to wing it and falls over dragging the quality of the content down.
to be fair. acoustic 12 string demand isn't huge, bigger than 20 years ago, but still not a big market. the electric 12 string market is super niche with, like maybe, 3 brands pretty much with the market cornered. Gretsch is one of them. the majority of the time if a Gretsch 12 strings sells it's because someone wanted a Gretsch 12 string. the other 2 brands are Danelectro and Rickenbacker
The intro was very tasty! I love Gretsch. Any genre is available and special. I play jazz, Atkins style, blues, vintage R&R, and more modern rock. Of course rockabilly too.
I've been waiting for more versatility music from you guys. This fills the gap. Thanks!
Pete's intro playing hit all the perfect notes. It was very emotional. Very nice, guys. Good guitars too!
These videos are gentle and actually pretty nice. Thanks for making them.
I got myself a G5420T something like 3 years ago, Aspen Green. It is a gorgeous guitar which can do anything. I've put flatwound 12s on it for jazz, but even so, it still works so well for rocknig out on as well. Gotta say, apart from the single cut, I am also glad to have the thumbnail inlays on the frets, rather than the bulging blocks. Looks extra elegant to me.
I absolutely adore my Gretsch. One of the best value guitars I have ever bought.
The 5422 is calling my name, and the pickups sound great. That opening lead playing sounded quite tasty lads!!
Pete Townsend recorded most of Who’s Next and Quadrophenia on a Gretsch 6120 (similar to the G5420t) gifted to him by Joe Walsh.
That 12 string has such an acoustic tonal quality to it!!...amazing sound!!...
Not a fan of the gold hardware, but the G5422TG does indeed have a lovely open voice to it that I think is unique in the Electromatic range (I've always found the G5420T a bit more compressed... great for jazz). The 5422 may be the best value for Gretsch, as it comes closest to the Pro Series stuff, at a 3rd of the price. I found a great deal on a slightly used G6118T 135th Anniversary, but if it were not for that, the G5422TG would be it. Maybe I'll still get one, anyway... lol
[Martin Gore-Depeche Mode-is my Gretschpiration.]
I finally got a Gretsch, just last month. G5622T. Gorgeous. Plays and sounds better than my Gibson ES-335. At a quarter of the price. Fantastic guitars.
Opening jam was so happy, excellent.
I've been wanting a Gretsch for a long time. Maybe '22 will be the year! They look great!
I’ve had a G5420T-TVJ for a few years now, used for gigs, recording etc and it’s been fabulous and would highly recommend Gretsch guitars whether made in Korea like mine or China, they’re really taking care of things and have good quality control.
Great review guys even if you didn’t mention Roger McGuinn or George Harrison when talking about 12 guitars 😉
I'm a vintage collector but Gretsches are the only new guitars i'd consider, they're unbelievable for an overseas guitar. My girlfriend bought the top-line electromatic 5622t last year and I may try to follow with that new 12 string... and it's not any more expensive??? insane!
Gretsch always makes great guitars. I never have to worry about their components or build quality, ever! Probably why I own two of them. Couldn't make up my mind so I bought both!
Ohh sweet melodic tune of the gretsch pickups. These types of hollow guitars can sound the way we like to....... Just loved the intro!!!
An electric 12-string always immediately makes me think of the Byrds.
And the Beatles!
And Tom Petty. I actually like the neck on the Gretsch 12, pretty good string separation.
@@glendoggett9670 I think the Byrds were a pretty important influence on Petty.
The rolling eyes of the Captain when Pete started almost to crack up about his 2-3 cm thin measurement. 😂😂
Gretsch's QC is phenomenal.
The fretwork is smooth as silk.
Love a good Gretsch 😉😎👍
I agree. I have 3 c 2021 models. But electronics not so good. Not much control and variation over volume and tone I feel.
Love them. I play everything with it. I mean everything. That's why they're great. And with a great set up and perform perfectly.
Awesome. Thanks Guys. I have 2 Electromatic Gretsch's.G5215 Jet Junior Single pickup Rock and Roll Machine and a G5232T. The Build quality and Playability on Both is brilliant but I still Dream of a G5420T Hollowbody. One Day hopefully my Dream will come true.
One of my favorite things about Gretsch guitars is the fact that they aren't another T-style, S-style or LP-style guitar. I'm a huge Electromatic fan. So much bang for the buck and tons of personality.
Great sounding guitars! I've got a set of filtertron pickups on an interminable internet order which are intended for a mahogany bodied thinline style guitar to try & get some of that tone - If they don't have the desired result I'll have to get me a Gretsch ! And I think the answer to Pete's question about why people don't buy acoustics as their collection accumulates may be to do with the fact that you get more "bang for your buck" with a solid body - and they take up so much less space! I've got a Tanglewood J45 style, & a J180 style, a Sigma 000 style, a Sigma DR12-28 12 string as well as a cheap resonator (all under £500) and they have to live on a wall mounted guitar rack because of the space they take up. This means that some of my electrics have to live in their cases & consequently don't get played as much.
Spot on in regard to not really knowing what to play when I pick up my Gretsch. I don't play it as much as I should because of this very reason.
Great video. How does the new C neck shape compare to the older models? Is it a big difference?
I must be superman. Been playing 12 strings since the 60s and never had a problem with holding strings down. I love them. Especially the Rickenbacker!
I have always had my eye on a Gretsch and compared to other brands they are actually affordable. Will definitely be getting on in the near future.
So I have a Gretsch 5622t CB from probably half a decade ago in green. I also own revstars, a Strat, and a 335. the Gretsch is the smoothest and most comfortable to play of them all. love these gretschs
When you were talking about Decibels, you were talking about how it's logarithmic not linear... Oh and Gretsch's are great!
The bridges are pinned now to prevent movement. Fantastic guitars, I love my 5420T and 5034TFT Rancher.
Pete and Lee I really like you guys and appreciate how knowledgeable you guys are🙏
I’ve always wanted a Gretsch after growing out rocking out to an Australian band called The Living End

My 5422T is my favorite guitar I own. Doing everything from rock (recently I've been learning Greta Van Fleet), to jazz (learning some standards) and it's worked with me on everything.
I was thinking of getting a full hollow from Gretsch or Ibanez, have a hard time choosing. Will use it for jazz too, I study jazz exclusively. How's yours? Is it hard to find a hardcase or gigbag for Gretsch guitars?
@@bassyey I got a hard case without too much trouble from my local guitar shop. Go check out some options but I'll always advocate for Gretsch.
In the early 1970's I played full time in 2 bands in an upstate NY collage town. The second one was a folk rock band, and I played a Guild F212, it's bckup was an Aria F212. The Guild got loaned many times over the years and I lost track of it, I still have the Aria and still play it often! I upgraded the tuners, and the nut and bridge over the years, along with replacing some frets. Other than that it's the same as when I bought it in 1974! Still sounds great thru the DeArmond foil pickup mounted at the base of the neck! 8) --gary
I bought the Tri-Five in Fiesta Red after your video and (as a beginning guitar learner) I love this guitar.
I would equally love a single cut, center block from the Korean factory with the FideliSonic P-90 pickups.
The Reverend Club King with the RetroBlast pickups is equally on my list of “Will Buy” when they come out again.
I love Gretsch so much. Really want one of those Paisley Penguins.
Love the 12-string. I am lucky enough to have one of the limited run Fender XIIs from a couple of years back but now I am trying to justify having two 12 strings!
Great guitars, such warm n fat tones!
I’m glad they upgraded the bridge design.
I love playing 12-string, it's a completely different level of finger precision.
Damn good jam there! I have one of the earliest Electromatics (the G5129). It's lovely for what I paid for it. I don't know about most people, I got it because of Brian Setzer!
Richard Fortus rocks the Gretsch and has a new signature model too!
I love Gretsches minimalistic fret markers, classy
Must confess, personally I think the opposite. The lower end models have a nice large inlay, the higher end have the minimalist approach
Looking forward to your review of the pro series. Looking to get the white falcon.
These do sound particularly delicious, if you ask me.
Never heard the captain play so well.
Gobsmacking jam. Thank you!
I have a black 12 string Electromatic from 5 years ago. They definitely did one before.
Till there was you! Lovely song to jam over!
I am a huge fan of Gretcsh guitars and the 22 series have quickly become my favorite model; however, I think I prefer the sound of a Rickenbacker 12 string to the Gretcsh 12 string in this video. Would love to see a comparison video between the two.
Yeah, using a bit of chorus is a bit like a 12 string. But that is also like saying eating a bit of an apple is a bit like eating an apple pie.... When I play a 12 string it is like playing a magical instrument... I write different kinds of lyrics and stories. I play rhythms slightly different and I seem to automatically slow down my little fills between chords, not being so busy, not trying to push it along as it is carrying me already. The ideal is the Rickenbacker 12 and always has been. I don't hear enough of those tones in this demo. I have heard the Danelectro 66 12 on some videos that seem to catch it closer and apparently this is not the typical Silvertone Danelectro builds of the past. My point is that if I am playing an Electric 12 I want to be able to think that the sound is of the McGuinn, Harrison, Petty variety.
Would love to see an update on the Captain's guitar collection and a Danish Pete one as well
Sound as good as they look!
I was Just wondering... Could you guys make a video about those new Fender 2022 guitars and effects (40th anniversary & Vintage and Hammertone) ?
I didn't add the extra 6 strings to my Martin DX12 cause I just wanted a regular 6 string for a while. It wors great and you can add the extra strings whenever you want.
The captains playing is just so tasty. He’s grown so much from the early days of the channel
great stuff- thank you
That 12string is fuckin beautiful! I have the G5410t but if that finish were available in 6string I'd have both!
In order to emulate a 12 string guitar with two 6 string guitars, use Nashville tuning on one of the 6 strings. Nashville tuning is simply the 6 high strings of a 12 string guitar.
Gretsch guitars really are the best deal you can get on a new guitar. You get so much for so little it’s ridiculous.
Dude the 2655 has been calling my name for ages now. It's such a sweet little guitar for half the price of other guitars that sound equally good.
Hi all. I'd always used 6 string guitars until a close friend offered me an electric twin neck.
This guitar has the 12 on top and the 6 underneath. After tackling the tuning issue, wow lol, I found a whole new world of playing.
Would definitely recommend that at some point everyone should at least have a go.
Oh, and it isn't a Gretsch.
That 12 string is glorious sounding.
My 2017 G5422TG is beautiful, but has INSANE tuning instabilities. I often go several months without touching it because it can take 15-20 minutes to tune it. Is this because the stock tuners are bunk?
Cool guys thank you 🙏
I am a solo instrumental guitarist I’ve been playing for 47 years in the garage is like playing an electric acoustic a matter fact that’s exactly what it is it’s a typical finger style guitar for finger style guitar playing I’m going to buy one next month I’m going to buy the mid night or a twilight blue single cutaway Graach I love it it’s a beautiful guitar I’m looking for some good advice on this guitar although I mean playing for many years I do know but I just wanna little bit of added insurance anyway thanks for your videos have a great day I love you and I love learning about guitars and I love doing music it’s my life thanks for the videos have a great day👍🏼🎸🎶🎼☮️
I bought a 5420 black/ Gold a few years ago .. I like it better than my US/MIJ models
That blue looks beautiful. I have 2 electric guitars and they're both blue though.
I’m in the process of shopping for a new guitar. Sold my strat. I’m torn between the Gretsch electro magic 5420t and the Epiphone Les Paul 59 standard. I play a lot of acoustic, old country and folk. I also love to play a lot of punk rock green day, living end, but also into grunge, 90s pop rock like third eye blind, love the 80s stuff ,particularly U2, cure, clash, cult, inxs. I also grew up on zeppelin and like the old blues rock. No idea which way to go….any thoughts?
Geez Lee, sorry to hear about the constipation, man.
That 12 string is beautiful!
A doubling of loudness would require a 10 dB increase in SPL.
You can play any style of music on any electric guitar. They only limiting factor is the player and maybe the amp
Always wanted a Gretsch.after seeing this and resisting for at least a few hours, my will held strong until it completely crumbled and I just orderd one.Guitar addiction hits again.....
The single cuts, have a Jazz look about them - sound great though
I have an older G5420 and I've always really liked it. Quite a workhorse of a guitar for me. I've been looking for a 12 string, so I certainly have to find one of those 12s to try.
I use Gretsch for prog, blues and classic rock!
Just got my lesson paul, looking for a gretch. Kinda thinking streamlines
I think you guys should invite a worship guitarist to show you some sounds with a Grestch
Maybe Andertons could carry the Callaham Bigsby accessories - makes the traditional Bigsbys way better and more fun to use
I have a 5230T that punches so far above its weight. Grestch is really in a golden age at the moment.
The only thing that could be better about it is the fretboard edges are the opposite of rolled. It's not sharp fret ends, it's the binding itself. Very 90-degree on the edge. I'd have a luthier roll the edges but I don't know if the material is solid enough to shave down. It may also cause strings to slip off the sides. I could always buy a high end Pro model for a lot more money but even those I've played have similar sharp edges. Similarly priced Gibsons and Fenders don't have this issue.
i love the tone of gretches but i went to my local guitar store today and they had these in, was sadly a bit disappointed, the necks felt weird and the bigsby arm only reaches near the bridge
"Can you imagine if it had a Bigsby on it?" -- ROTFLMAO! Guitarists the world over just lost their sh!t on that one, Pete. 🥰 As for the whole 12-string thing, I do confess that the jangle is addictive. The issue is whether it would get enough use. Fender, Rick and Gretsch have all made wonderful 12s. I think Gretsch's offering here is probably the easiest price of entry. Sounds wonderful.
That was a good discussion. I liked Lee's observation that a 12-string produces a natural chorus effect, I didn't know that.
The streamliner can shred hard, and put out sounds that'll have your neighbors calling the cops on ya...sweet.
Love these Gretsch guitars!!!! Can you put humbuckers on these if you wanted to later?
Filtertrons are humbuckers. Just a different design.
@@jeramym9506 yeah but also a different size. I'm talking about Gibson PAF type humbuckers
I am a Gretsch player, almost exclusively. Where do you go with one? Anywhere you want. If you understand and learn how to use the tone knobs and switches and use a good amp you can play literally anything. My main squeeze is my 64 Country Gentleman. Everything from Chicago style blues to Solo fingerstyle, Roc and Roll, even funk.
I haven't bought a Gretsch for a while and I am starting to get a bit antsy. The GAS is starting to build up.
The reason you have more electrics than acoustics is that you can get higher quality electrics for less $'s, good acoustics cost more and are seldom a spur of the moment buy. I have bought electrics simply because they were a previous seasons models, and they were on sale. That seldom, if ever, happens with acoustics.
What about the acoustic guitars from Gretsch??
All except I can say these are great guitars they’re worth the money I oughta know I Own One👍🎸💖
db meters is verses the air it pushes through. Simple terms a DB reading is going to be hirer in a small room than if its outside on a stage at Wembley... It's about moving air pressure
In a small room the reflections from the walls will increase the reading, yes.
Guys! You forgot Richard Fortus. BIG Gretsch Player. Just came out with his own GRETSCH Model.
What do you play on a Gretsch ?
Rockabilly, Rock N Roll, Psychobilly, Punk, Hard Rock (AC/DC) even some 'grunge (Soundgarden).
Also, Neil Young's ''go-to'' guitar (White Falcon)
or even some Black Metal like Cult of Luna
I will forever associate the Gretsch 12 string with Michael Nesmith of The Monkees.
You can also anything jazz country rock blues these semi hollows and hollows work for anything
Love my electromatic g5445t. The sound and feel is something that, if I don't do it for a week, boom, kick in the senses again.
As long as I never try to restring it, it'll be fine !!!
The blue G5420T did get way to little attention, being the best looking of them all.
Would be really good to see a colour comparison between the Fairlane blue vs the Azure blue.
Captain jazzy, sounding good ☮️
get you someone that looks at you the way cap looks at danish pete whilst noodling
