      C J That you willfully ignore how the dairy and egg industries operate since eight years. So what does it say about you? You're most likely vegetarian to put yourself on a pedestal, not for the animals. I managed to be vegetarian for six months-ish. Then I realized how hypocritical it is and went vegan.

      Find local farms that practice humane ways of raising livestock. We can help with our wallets and try not to buy meat if we don’t know the source. Of course it’s not that easy, but the more the public demand the things, the sooner it can happen. Also reducing your meat intake and finding alternative sources of protein will help too. I know it won’t be easy, but I am willing to do my part as a meat eater.

    • @TheSilentMONARCHY
      @TheSilentMONARCHY 6 років тому +35

      C J also you can reduce meat intake! You don’t have to become vegan or vegetarian, but if you have meat in every meal every day, that’s 21 meals each week with meat in it. What if we reduce that to 15 meals? 10 meals? If everyone reduced their intake by half I think it would help a lot !

    • @neen42
      @neen42 6 років тому +33

      TheSilentMONARCHY I've vegan, and I agree that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. It's difficult to commit to eating zero animal products and to demand that of everyone is unrealistic. Eating local helps too - look into co-ops and shares in CSAs in your area to support independent farmers!

    Factory farming isn't sustainable but that doesn't mean everybody needs to become a vegan. It's not an all-or-nothing proposition. If millions of people just ate a little less meat and dairy, that itself would have a huge positive impact on the environment.

Here's a high school administrator commenting on his acceptance - "There was no way anybody in the administrative office of the school thought he would on the merits get into Harvard. His GPA did not warrant it, his SAT scores did not warrant it. We thought for sure, there was no way this was going to happen. Then, lo and behold, Jared was accepted. It was a little bit disappointing because there were at the time other kids we thought should really get in on the merits, and they did not."

      Marcel Diezasch do you work for the Harvard admissions office? No? Then your know-nothing statement basically carries no water. You cant quantify your statement with facts, you're basing it off of a gut reaction. Did Jared get in off of his father's dollar? YES! How do we quantify that? His test scores, grades, and SATs and 2.5 million dollars. How do you quantify your claim? Oh? It's based off of nothing? How many black people and Indian people deserved to be at Harvard? How many didnt? Give me that number and I'll happily agree with you. But until then, you're making baseless assumptions.

    Yes: the problem is factory farming! Regardless of what you eat, we should all be able to agree that the animals who are consumed, or used for what they produce, shouldn't have to suffer in order to serve humans. You don't have to think they're smart or cute; you just need to acknowledge that they can feel pain and fear, and that they don't deserve that torture. And if someone can't even be met on that level, well, is there really any point in bringing up the impact factory farming has on the overall health of humans and the Earth?
    It doesn't make sense to try to convert people to veganism or vegetarianism. It's futile to even consider. But the way food is produced is something that needs to change and can change.

      I do agree with their concerns about animal being badly treated in the factories but a lot of the things they said such as vegan is the healthiest or meat is evil, it will kill you...etc are not so accurate. I am not saying that meat is superior, reality is just not that simple but some vegan people just think they know the whole scientific truth but in actuality, the contrary is true. Many of them simply don't know enough "real" science to grasp the whole picture.

      But have you actually encountered vegans screaming in your face? People say this kind of thing about me a lot - that I'm one of the "rare" vegans who isn't a jerk about it, but I've never seen or met these mean vegans who are supposed to be the majority. I feel like this might be a myth? Or if they do exist, then maybe some confirmation bias happens, so that even if they're very very rare, the stereotype is confirmed. But I also notice that as soon as people find out I'm vegan, (usually if we're eating together and they notice what I order) if they're not, they seem to feel the need to immediately defend their own eating choices, like my just being vegetarian near them is a challenge laid down. So maybe it's more about self consciousness or fears of judgement, rather than anything we're actually doing.

      i have a friend who is a vegetarian she guilts trips me each time i eat meat hehehe in a none aggressive way, nonetheless i think its a minority thats usually depicted on social media and tv, its the press's fault for that, there is nothing wrong with your diet choices as long as there is respect between ppl it shouldn't matter or seen as a challenge, you need to surround yourself with people who accept u for u :)

      Most vegans actually aren't the way they're painted. It's just that meat eaters tend to be very sensitive to this one particular issue, much moreso than other issues. Question something that they do or believe, and you might not get much of a reaction at all, but just tell them you had a veggie burger for lunch and prepare for "are you judging me!?". It really is sometimes that much of an extreme caricature. I never say a word about it to people I know, literally, nothing, ever, but I regularly get "guess what I had for lunch, pot roast with bacon on top" or something similar. I ignore it as if I didn't hear it. I get that people need to compensate for actions they believe are wrong, so I just keep my mouth shut and occasionally roll my eyes. Outside of comment threads, I never hear vegans say a word about it.

      If you're a vegan you SHOULD judge people for their diets, just like we judge people who are sexist or racist. If you choose to be sexist or racist, your "choice" has a victim that you're ignoring and therefore you're making the world a worse place. It should not be tolerated. Why should we respect someone's "choice" if they choose the cruel option? That's not a choice, that's a violation.

Nothing wrong with her of course, but I'm just saying that many people are too complacent in their horrible choices, and need to have someone point it out. My experience is that most people want to be good in theory, but few are willing to actually make changes to themselves to be good, and if you have a vegan like Portman saying stuff like 'no judgment if you eat meat', then your average people like me who hadn't thought about the ethics of their choices will continue to exist in our ignorant little bubble thinking we're still good people as we murder and rape animals. It was watching Gary Yourofsky and Joey Carbstrong that made me actually question what I was doing and made me go vegan overnight because I could no longer claim I was against animal cruelty if I didn't.

    • @janeseamore1370
      @janeseamore1370 5 років тому +3

      hey @@cockeyedoptimista plants don't have feelings. they don't have a parasympathetic or sympathetic nervous system. plants are very interesting and you can find lots of quick articles on them. they don't have awareness like we do. they have a dna blueprint that they follow. and they are much more than that---plants and animals evolve side by side. for example, trees and birds evolve side by side. it is the singing of the birds that opens the pores on trees to begin photosynthesis. without birds, there would be no trees. its not that they enjoy music, its that they are hardwired to respond to bird songs.
      there are plant communicator devices in the world now and I have used those and learned a lot. plants themselves actually sing when their frequencies are transmitted to notes. once the plant is "aware" the song that is being sung is its own, it sings louder and sometimes changes its tune. you can look those up.
      vegetables like carrots have no feelings but they do wish to preserve their life based on biological data. they admit a toxin to certain species of animals and to human beings which essentially says "don't eat me". that is why many vegetables are slightly toxic until cooked or steamed. IT is not a feeling of not wanting to die. it is life protecting itself. a carrot doesn't feel pain when bit in to.
      Also, many plants are like this: toxic to some species and not to others. a particular berry may actually reach out to be noticed in nature by its evolutionary partner--- say a bear. the berry and the bear are dependendent on one another. the berry is non toxic to the bear and the bear does the berry a service of after eating it, the excrement contains the seeds which fertilizes and plants more of those berry plants in the perfect range and environment for it.
      If you are concerned about causing suffering (good job) then you can enjoy a fruit diet. wheat and corn and fruits like tomatos and peaches etc. these are all very high sugar foods but the plant produces these fruits and actually wants beings to take and eat them. if not they fall to the ground and rot for insects. it hurts the plant not to produce fruit. a carrot being a whole being unto itself--- of course it protects its life. it doesn't want to be eaten. it wants to live. as we all do. but its not from an emotional perspective like we humans and animals have. it is purely energetic based on dna. peace and love

    • @cockeyedoptimista
      @cockeyedoptimista 5 років тому

      @@janeseamore1370 Quote from an article: Plants behave in all sorts of ways and react to many different types of stimuli. Some people believe that plants grow better when spoken to or when music is played nearby. ... Plants don't have brains or central nervous systems like humans; therefore, they can't have emotions or reasoning capabilities . They are, however, sentient life forms and they do have "tropic" and "nastic" responses to stimuli. Plants can't vocalize or flee from danger, so they must rely on other ways to thrive and to protect themselves when threatened. They can choose which direction to grow, for example, and can defend themselves and aid pollination by moving their leaves, petals, and stamens. Plants also produce both attractive and defensive messenger chemicals called pheromones, much like humans, animals, and insects.
      Etc, etc. I finally read your whole comment; pretty interesting. I'm not going to eat only fruit, sorry. I was just saying, as you did, that plants try to preserve their own lives like other living beings. Interesting differentiation between carrots and things that are produced like seeds, nuts and fruits. Does that mean we should not eat roots? Whatever. Anyhow I'm not an idiot, I know that plants don't have nervous systems and can't feel pain. There were those studies, though. Oh well, bye.
      Oh, also I don't know what you're talking about regarding the "frequencies" of plants. I'm not aware of them sending out any kind of vibrations, be it sound or light, etc. Also I never heard that about birds opening up the pores in plants and starting photosynthesis, I'll have to check that out. Interdependence: yes, that's the thing. I know animals poop seeds out, by the way; also carry them on their fur, etc. Peace and love to you too. Nice to hear.
