Beautiful lady, beautiful singing that says it all.
A good friend of mine opened for Tammy in a 1973 concert in Rochester NY. We had front row seats. When she did Stand by Your Man she came and got me, put her arms around me and sang the song. I was 21, 6' 5" and 300 lbs, Tammy is about 5' 2" and 100lbs soaking wet! She finished and gave me a big hug and kiss, I'll never forget that moment!! RMC, if you read this I know you put her up to that!! LOLOL. 8) Peace

Mandy Barnett and the A Team- that's one notch up from perfection.
Good rendition, powerful voice. I'm a lyrics guy at heart. I cannot explain why I have loved this song so much (Tammy's version, naturally) which topped the charts at the dawn of the women's movement, call it what you will. I suspect it is because I might have some kind of ability to appreciate when the lyrics match the melody so well. I believe there is generally a sync factor there. This was one of those songs. Against tradition, I would compose lyrics first, then ask someone to put music to it. (I actually did that, and it worked). Anyway, I'm rambling and I apologize. Thanks as always for the upload, Joe.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Roger… my very close friend and mentor Billy Sherrill wrote the song. I have his piano in the museum he used to write it. Tammy’s name is listed as co-writer but Billy really wrote the whole song and gave her half to help her get a advance check from BMI. Best, Joe
