"smash" is easily among the best punk-rock albums ever made. IMHO the dense of very good songs as well as the possibility to listen through the whole album over and over again make it an exceptional piece of music.
I was born in 88 but never fully listened to this album fully until a year ago. It is the only album of any artist that I have been able to listen to without feeling the urge to skip a track.
Lost count of how many times I have listened to this album when I was a teen over and over and over and over again. May my old neighbours rest in peace!
Such a good album, almost 30 years later. Driving around as a Midwestern teen listening to this on the tape deck was as close to cool and rebellious as I ever felt 😂
My first concert was The Offspring. It was March 1995. I was almost 15. My brother took me to see them for my birthday. I was in love with Dexter. But this was the last song they played! The first song they played was the secret track guitar remix of "Come out and Play" It was an amazing show! I'm so glad I got to see them.
[Verse 1] Head over heels I've fit in before Now I don't want to do it no more I held it all in with blood on my face Built it up, man, so bad you can taste I don't slag no one, I don't even judge Don't give me shit ’cause I'm not gonna budge I just want to be who I want to be Guess that's hard for others to see [Chorus] I'm not a trendy asshole I do what I want I do what I feel like I'm not a trendy asshole I don't give a fuck If it's good enough for you ’Cause I'm alive [Verse 2] Smash is the way you feel all alone Like an outcast you're out on your own Smash is the way you deal with your life Like an outcast you're smashing your strife
I would sneak this CD out of my brother's room when he wasn't home (I wasn't allowed to listen to it because I was too young or whatever) and played it nearly every day for probably a year. Smash in particular was my favorite song. Haven't listened to it in a long time and can still remember every single word. This album is perfection in my mind!
I did this same thing with their song "Gone Away." My brother and I tried everything to record it off the radio and he got it first. So I would take it from him to listen to.
Hahaha I was just explaining that to my son (hes 14).we play music so I had to remind him how it was when it all began. Remember saving all your chour/lunch money to buy a cd and hope it was all good?Plus sometimes they where even better than expected! Or how bout that dial up internet with thousands of free AOL cds.....lol
I used to listen to this album when I was at the age of 12 or 13. It was one of the only albuns at that time that I listened from the biggining to the end without pulling any track. Now, 30 years later it goes the same way.
The ideas in these songs are better than I remember. Thanks for making the whole album available. My old CD doesn't play like it used to. Great album, a rare thing that every song adds value.
This Album Had and still has relevance in my life greatly. There is a lot of wisdom within the lyrics throughout the entirety of it; This Track Especially is highly meaningful even 27 yrs later
I remember skipping class early after selling some jazz cabbage, buying Smash on cassette, looked over, then randomly bought, Down- Nola and Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power. Since that very day... Life and my relationship with the guitar was not looked at the same way ever again.

This was my first cassette. It was my second cd (after the Spawn soundtrack my sister bought me 23 years ago). My third CD was the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. 4th was Homework by Daft Punk. So I had a pretty solid starter cd collection. My tastes have changed greatly over the years. Went from alt punk, acid rock stuff like this to pop punk (sum 41, blink 182) to Metal (korn, Limp Bizket), to New Metal (Lincoln Park, Lost Profits), to power metal (Dragonforce, Sonota Arctica, to about 3 years of Eurobeats, then finally settling on my home in EDM, and this has been my genre of choice for the last decade. Wild ride. But Smash was my first time I really fell in love with an album.
Haha the similarities between your musical taste and mine are pretty damn close haha. It cracks me up. I never got into EDM though, but this was my first cassette, along with the Jurassic Park soundtrack, and also Boys II Men hahaha. The rest pretty much followed my musical evolution. I got into power metal when I was about 18 and listened to a ton of Sonata Artica, Dragonforce, and Helloween. Good shit man

Smash is my favorite, and always will be.

[Verse 1]
Head over heels I've fit in before

Also around 9:24 it sounds like Come Out and Play (ish) with the drum track from Pay The Man
