    Respect to the OGs from dropping that knowledge. We need more history or understanding. We need the guidance to understand the dance. Simply more than a dance. Thank you for sharing man.

      Poplockin is two terms that came together into one. Poppin came out of Oakland California out of Castlemont High. It was a what you would say a renegade dance that did not have music tied to it. There was no turntable scratching it did not hit the west coast as yet and at this time rap was not on the W/coast because it was 1970. Yes poppin is 50 years old. There are 5 rudimentary poppin moves 1) the 23 million miles to earth monster move 2) the my three sons move 3) the Harold as of Harold on hy lit 4) The little swiss clock maker move. Number 4 used to start fights and made poppin a outlaw dance. For example if you were dancing the funky chicken with a girl or guy these two or three guy in bowler hats and long coats would hand on the perimeter of the two people and start acting like a swiss clock figure going around you.
      When the soul Experience band would play a different places The poppin gangster from west and East Oakland would "vibrate" (the 5th move) thus causing the bowler hat to pop off thus poppin. As it spread like Islam across Europe and Africa. It hit L.A. thus joining with Lockin and interfusing it. Who says inter city schools can not contribute to American culture.

    I have been wondering about the term "pop locking" vs "popping". I was hoping he would explain the difference between two names. It seems OGs use the term "popping locking" over "popping" proudly and it may have some difference. If anyone can answer my question, I appreciate it.

    Poplocking has only become a "misused" term in the last few years with the new heads. the 30 plus years before that it was never misused or misconstrued by anyone whatsoever..everyone knew what it was and is..so I refuse to question the OGs who helped shape the history and art form of the dance ..if that's what its called then that's what its called..no one questioned the term then so why do it now?

      It was called a variety of things poppin hittin striking poplockin which did come from LA bcos of the lockers but he is misconcrued it originated in Oakland then Sacramento added to it and on down im OG Mekanizm from Sac yhe waving ticking backslide or frontslide that MJ changed to moonwalk were all umbrella moves in todays dancers a lot of these dudes are missing a key element and dude said no one can claim moves well i beg to differ in a competition every weekend or whenever u are called out u had to be ready my day came and 8 hiurs in a mirror and lots of cartoons looneytunes and animated movies moves were developed it was a fight if you stole a fools move basics cant be claimed and alot of what they doing was somebodys these moves just didnt appear when poppin first originated after the robot which i dont think dude knows whats up Every OG today if you were in to this you knew who Shields and Yarnell was period a move some added to their arsenal it was called shields a form of animated robot. If u have some time look them up a guy and girl they did skits. Thats where poppin evolved first it was just poppin your body and dancing then we slowed it down to animation the cartoons moved a certain way and you tiok that certain thing they did and added to your arsenal practicing continuously till perfected and you had to be perfect you bakance your timing the move itself bcos one flaw made your shit look real bad and thats when u got ate up once you were famouse the whole city knew and everyone who thought they were good came after you they wanted the title. The movie shrimp and taco made uoset alot of dancers their was no social media back then and when these fools were in this movie we found it comical and dissed their were lots of people better than anyone in that movie it was a joke to our art a d now tgey call them legends lmao but when it hit peak poppin was about telling a story through skits . i can tell the real i was in it famouse got jumpped for beating the best and then recognized as the best and the best part all the ladies knew you and wanted a piece much fun

    With all due respect. To me he is popping so why not just call it popping. Popping is popping and locking is locking. That is what I have been taught.

      but it's a term that is misused on so many level in general. if someone that doesn't dance watches this video they will assume popping is called "pop locking" if they don't watch and listen carefully to what he says. it's been a problem for non-dancer to learn the difference between popping and locking due to the term "pop locking" has been misused for so long.

      I see what you mean. He does explain the difference between the 2 in the video but I can see how someone can get it mixed up. I think the main thing for Jeckle and many dancers from LA is that they always called it Pop Locking.

    • @benkao2008
      @benkao2008 8 років тому +3

      Vincani, just an idea for your new video. find a local locker and popper to demonstrate that! that would help a lot of people out to clarify that term "pop locking". I am a locker myself so it is truly frustrating sometimes when people assume locking is "pop locking" and get them mixed up. Love your work as always, keep it up my man!
