Growing up with Oaky was a dream. Can't beat it. However, I would have to say his Lotherton hall gig tops this one. Have a listen - truly banging start to finish. ua-cam.com/video/a35iQkCe0hI/v-deo.htmlsi=j8-lAQi1ekHIUmE3
I was thrown into an induced coma for 3 days, I am told, by doctors at my local hospital St. Georges in London. It didn't seem like 3 days - it felt like seconds and months at the same time as I recovered from a stroke that was hardwired into my genes from birth. When I came out of my coma, I didn't know anyone but my mum, was paralyzed, didn't understand language and was flying in circles, and yet the story at h1:m01:s20 was in my mind, like an angel, telling me that everything was going to be ok. It said only one thing. BREATHE. This music was more powerful than anything. Thank you Paul.
+Feral Mass Good trance is dead. Oakey became a whore of the music industry just like Tiësto after his Magik and In Search of Sunrise series. Tiësto and Oakey have been the two gods of trance at those good old times, Tiësto bringing the somewhat more uplifting NL trance while Oakenfold coming with a little bit more darker, more serious but still uplifting UK trance. The 2 gods - and both failed in my eyes, switched genre and what they do nowadays is omg :( Only Carl Cox plays still reasonable music among the good old big names although I haven't been a big fan of him previously .. and there're some new wannabe-big guys - time will tell .. - like Mr. White (Sensation Amsterdam), Monika Kruse (ultimate minimal techno) and Mathias Kaden who still plays from vinyl quite often, .. love him.
This was my favorite mix to listen to driving to and from college. about a 3 hour drive through mountains/woods. Just me, the dark, the double yellow lines and oakenfold. I would enter a trance and when the mix was done I would be there. In a new state of mind!
That Magic was called, ecstasy from the Netherlands. : ) just kidding with you man. totally agree though. how do things get so commercialized? why change something that isn't broke.
To me out of all Oakey's 99 world tour sets this is the most outstanding from start to finish. The mixing, the programming, the track selection are out of this world. The last hour of Havana was unreal, Rojam is up there, the energy in his Creamfields set was just banging but this set feels like a master composition. It's so perfect. It's like every track was made to fit the next with flawless precison. I get lost in it. It's special to have sets like this but sad too that no one since has managed to create anything close to the level of quality, and that the style of music has changed to the point where it's not really the possible either. Still, thank god for youtube.
I picked up turn tables and vinyl after listening to Oakenfold and Sasha from '99-01 I was so inspired. You're right, the style of music has changed and it's impossible to even come close to what was happening in those days. It's just sad.
Wesly Ruel I couldn't agree more!! Today's live sets found online are pathetic and too mainstream. Old school Paul Van Dyke, Sasha, John Digweed, Judge Jules just annihilates anything that has come out in the past 10 years. 99-2002 were the best years for this style!!
This whole album was such a big part of my life growing up. It's crazy listening to it all these years later. Makes you feel nostalgic AF. I love it! This whole album still sounds amazing.

When I discovered this music in my teens and 20's this stuff was a godsend. Formed a whole generation of electronic music. I keep current but threw it on for old times sake. Nobody seems to play stuff like this anymore. It's a real storyline, a journey through sound. Maybe there are DJs producing stuff like these today. Does anyone have suggestions??? I am open to them. Thank you, Greg, for this post. Really appreciate people like you who make the effort so over a million people can relive Oakie's magic.
i did the same for a month with the first 56 kB modem 12 years before...this is actually what you are hearing ...good quality were could be better..but dance/trance is Oakenfold
I love this mix. I downloaded this on dialup back in 2000 and it forever changed the way I related to music. I was living in a mid sized town in the US and I realized there was a whole other world out there I was missing out on. A year later moved to south Florida and was exposed to different electronic genres and expanded my tastes but this mix will always be special to me.
I was thinking the exact same thing! First heard this mix 14 years ago when I was in high school... Some parts of it still give me that sensation... I know you know what I'm talking about.
Shawn Farren Same here. was raving in KY 14 years ago, that Nalin & Kane track always gave my brain a rush of seratonin. Listening back tonight, gave me the same sensation.
Oakenfold was years ahead of anyone! From the early days of his nights at "Rage" in London, in the very early 90's, and his first trips to Ibiza with Trevor Fung, also from "Rage", he became the man that inspired all those that dreamed of being a house DJ. This is the man that made the party season in Ibiza happen! Name me one other DJ that turned a small island into one of the richest Spanish playgrounds ever and had a statue erected in his honour? Sadly, the Guetta's, Tiesto's and most of the other DJ's that followed no longer play such original music as Oakenfold......today it has degenerated into sickly electronic pop! My body may have aged but thanks to Oaky my brain remains forever young! Thank you Paul.
tranceport will always be (in my opinion) his best work, hands down. Everything else he's released before n since has simply been delicious icing on an already tasty cake
1:15:00 onwards.. Pure bliss.. Actually the whole album has parts like those. Listening to Paul Oakenfold is like taking the blue pill.. or the red one. I forgot. His music just takes me deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole.. I grew up listening to DJ Taucher, Culture Beat.. 20 years later.. listening to this.
I can remember like yesterday sitting next with my brother each on our laptops, while listening to this set for the first time. When "Bullet in the gun" kicked in, we just stopped whatever we were doing and just looked at each other with amazement. We were like "holy shhhh that song is awesome". Overall it's my all time favorite live set!
From Wikipedia.."He took this to the mainstream in 1994 and created a pair of two-hour sets for BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix the first of these was broadcast in the early hours of Sunday 20 March 1994, with the second being the legendary "Goa Mix" broadcast on Sunday 18 December 1994. "
Back in the Day, He was the Master of all trance and prog, every time I rocked to him was an epic journey into another plane of existence. These years cannot be surpassed for quality :)
DUDE!!!!! LISTENED TO THIS LIVE 1999, on radio 1 on my sisters computer in Louisiana, and Dial uup speed!~!! hahahah.and hacked it with Napster!! .. My recording quality was not so good.. WOW WHAT A ENORMOUS MEMORY IS CONTAINED IN this MIx.. Thanx for sharing... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!
I went to Ibiza mid 90s and this sort of music lit the clubs I went a few years back on a stag and it’s like a totally world now bring these legends back!
I headnt heard this mix since i was 16 & Im 30 now, a year after this I seen Oaky Headline Creamfields Ireland in 2000, it is still to this day & probably always will be, the best day of my life!
+Arthur Sabintsev its not unknown, just not known by everyone ;) "Two Fishes - The Opera (Vince O'Matic Mix)" you can find the original on youtube to listen and buy the EP on Discogs is you REALLY want it
I really get what your getting at. More people lived to dance for these amazing beats and tempo. I am from the younger generation. When I was younger I had to sneak into see Bad Boy Bill . It was one of the best dance nights of my life.
Couldn't wait for my parent's to go work in the mornings before school used to blunt it up and crank these tunes LOUD with the pioneer stack system; ))) Best times 1998-2000
I found Tranceport first and then stumbled upon this through the comments section of that video. Holy crap this is amazing. I didn't even know that I liked trance music. :-/
GU007 and then this, live @Space in Ibiza made a decade of my life a bliss. I put in on and fly back into that state on mind, blissful, blissful, blissful. So much more than just dance music this is. This set is spiritual and classy at the same time and all throughout the set it steadily induced and maintains a heightened state of ecstasy. It's like being kept on top of a feel good fountain of sound, each jet hitting just in the right time and place to keep you from coming down. And as for the technique, the transitions between the tracks are not just smooth. They are music themselves. like at 23:00
I bought this set as a cassette at Spundae's in San Francisco in 1999. I could have sworn it was a live recording from Spundae because it had the logo on the cassette. Anyone recall have this same tape? Anyway, a lot of people say Transport is Oakie's best set. I beg to differ. This is the best set Oakenfold has recorded!
I feel like everyone in this comment section is somehow in my trance family. My buddy and I call this set the "anthem of life" If someone said, i want to get into trance music, I'd shove them this set...."Start here" I was in college in 99 and all i did was download these sets....classics
Much like people here, Oakenfold's Essential mix residency in 1999 and Tranceport were gigantic reasons why got into and still love this style of music. Oakenfold's EM @ Rojan in Shanghai is another good one :)
Legendary club and a real golden era for a dj who will also always be regarded as a legend...thanks Paul...all you mixes are superb but this one is truly very special...
It was the year 2000 when all my friends hallucinated where this music came from, this session was on the famous tranceaddict page, in direct download !!, it took us days to download the sessions with a 33.6K modem, it is sure the session that changed my tastes musicals forever, the following year I went to Ibiza to see it live.: D
We were in Ibiza coming in a crazy ship from Barcelona this summer of 99. Amazing Ibiza those days and incredible Space probably the best club with a very long schedule. After hours every day, 24 hours party all the the days all the weeks in the ISLAND. 😣 A mad thing. Privilege, Amnesia... Also Sven Väth techno parties were crazy 🧐🙃. It will never be the same
Amazing to come across this on UA-cam. I adored this mix & still do. It was the soundtrack to my Uni days and a huge influence on my dance music tastes. Timeless.
Classic. I remember first hearing this and was just in awe. I mean it, I went far away for a while and then came back into reality. That was quite some time ago.
The best set of all time trance! Ivana I love you, forever.
Thank god he went to Ibiza in 1988/89 and made the whole scene what it is today. Thank you oakey ur a true legend of dance music. ONE LOVE.
Amazing after all these years!!!! One of Oakie's best club mixes. When I die, I want to go listening to this mix :)
Growing up with Oaky was a dream. Can't beat it. However, I would have to say his Lotherton hall gig tops this one. Have a listen - truly banging start to finish.

I've long considered this mix "Best of Genre".
One of the - if not THE - very best trance sets ever. Legendary.
I wonder how many years of my life iv listened to this mix. Not a second wasted
I was thrown into an induced coma for 3 days, I am told, by doctors at my local hospital St. Georges in London. Sasha, Digweed, Oakenfold, Frankie Bones. Love it all. The 90's Trance, House and Techno is timeless.
Paul oaklenflod, this is a great dj and producer.... thanks for sharing this set
Oakie is the reason why I began to love trance and this era (1998-2001) is the reason why I continue to love trance.
me too this is a master from dance/trance era...
+Chad Ochman too bad he plays that new age crap now...
That is true
+Chad Ochman Pls someone tell me where the good trance is?
+Feral Mass Good trance is dead. Oakey became a whore of the music industry just like Tiësto after his Magik and In Search of Sunrise series. Always reminds me of my dad. Used to blast these when we were on our way to go fishing 👌 Paul oakenfold 🔥🚀
Best electronic music came from 1990- 2001
Just pure brilliance!!
Ahh those days //////////////////////////////////////////
This mix : first heard in 1999 ,still listening to it almost once a week since then :)
So glad this found me. Hooked from the first track... Miss these days of classic trance...
Oakie forever in my heart!❤
WOW! 12 years later it's still BANGING!! Listening like if it was 2000 all over again. That's why he is still my top dj of all time
one of my favorite mix ever
Pete Tong's intros excited me then, and now they give me an incredible sense of melancholy. Those nights I never wanted to end.
Paul Richardson I totally appreciate this, he knows (obviously) exactly when to come in with his essential mix stuff
Grant is a TRIPP
Paul Richardson agreed
you said it Paul; and i understand all too well....
This mix, Napster, 2000. Changed my life. Thanks for posting it.
+Robert Crandall amen
For real. Same exact thing.
Robert Crandall lol nailed it
for me it was one guy, at the local club! god bless him
Hell ya man. This mix was the one that really did me in. There was no looking back. Probably heard this 100 times
This was my favorite mix to listen to driving to and from college. about a 3 hour drive through mountains/woods. Just me, the dark, the double yellow lines and oakenfold. I would enter a trance and when the mix was done I would be there. In a new state of mind!
Nice hahahah
U sure it was just the muzak that put you in a trance?
classic and legendary - soundtrack of my life in 1999/00!!!
the best of po
Aaaaaa, so many memories of this time....
There was a special magic to the music during this time that was not yet commercialized, and I am happy to see people still listening to it.
That Magic was called, ecstasy from the Netherlands. : ) just kidding with you man. totally agree though. how do things get so commercialized? why change something that isn't broke.
This is now the 237th time i have played this... i look forward to the next 237.
Quite possibly one of the best trance recordings of all time. 200 years from now they'll be jamin to this!
This will be church music
To me out of all Oakey's 99 world tour sets this is the most outstanding from start to finish. The mixing, the programming, the track selection are out of this world. Hated the start. First 2 tracks are very UnOakenfold like. After that bliss :)

I love this mix. I downloaded this on dialup back in 2000 and it forever changed the way I related to music. Brainchild "Symmetry C", tuuune!!. Takes me back, them were the days.

The mix that turned millions into trance-heads and ravers. Thanks Kazaa and Limewire haha.

I remember this like it was yesterday. I had this on cassette tape and I played the shit out of it. Brilliant, takes you to another level.
After reading comments I decided to listen to this - What a trip down memory lane : How good were them days ..
Still the best mix ever after all these years quite incredible.....
this recording is easily his best...in my book...its perfect
I feel like everyone in this comment section is somehow in my trance family. My buddy and I call this set the "anthem of life" If someone said, i want to get into trance music, I'd shove them this set...."Start here" I was in college in 99 and all i did was download these sets....classics
I wore out 2 cds back in the day listening to this set over and over. Nothing better for a long drive
This was the first trance set I ever heard and it's why I fell in love with this music!!!!!
Best era trance mix. Reason why I started to love it and still do.
So sick! Great memories of late late drives with empty city streets and nothing but time, fuck yes.
Has to be one of Oakenfolds best sets ever
Still banging in 2018...
This is what i want to hear right now.
love it thanks Paul. I have to say I never get tired of listening to the journey. your the best.
Oakenfold's best mix of his world tour in 1999... by a long way. Thanks for uploading.
Wow... we loved this set with my sister. Thanks!
It will never be the same
this set and the one from liverpool also done in 1999 are two of oakies best sets of all time. this was really the golden age of trance
journey by djs is my favourite Oakenfold cd Oslo global underground is pretty good too.
