Great video guys. Question for Jordan - With the full sensor readout for video on the GFX100, would the dynamic range be significantly better than smaller sensor cameras in the M4/3, APS-C, and full frame range? There has been much written about the GFX's ability to maintain DR and tonality in still images, would this translate to video as well?
Afraid not. The 10 bit video capture is impressive, but doesn't do full justice to the 16 bit sensor. We'll look into this in more detail once we get a production unit.
Is it fair to compare the GFX100 to a ff or apsc camera in terms of speed? How do the Hasselblad Mamiya Pentax or Leica mf cameras compare to this? What about image quality? I agree with everyone else saying that the XT-3 footage is amazing. Let me guess: this was not shot in F-log, this was shot in Eterna. Or at least MAINLY in Eterna. Am i right? :) :)
For large prints at A4 or US letter size 24 MP are by far enough. However more pixels are always welcomed. With a sharp lens more MP offer the ability of crop which is tremendously important to composition. For using photos in social networks even the 12 MP of most smartphones or Sony α7S are fine.
24 megapixels typically gets you somewhere between a 4x6 and 8x10, though to comfortably handle an 8x10 crop, 50 megapixels is accessible. 100 megapixels can get you 16 inch range for a print.
Razor2048 Correct. Also it is very important the sharpness of the lenses. Without a sharp lens the more MP are futile. This is very obvious with smartphones that offer 24 MP or even 40 MP with unavoidably mediocre lenses. For example in 2013 I bough the Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 MP camera with Zeiss lens. The Zeiss lens isn't bad but can't deliver a very sharp 41 MP photo. However even today the photos from my Nokia Lumia 1020 are better than the photos of my iPhone X.
A4 prints are pretty small, only really belonging in the sketchbook. You won't find much difference between this and an a7s @ 12mp on A4 with Sony's sharpest lenses. Large suggests at life size reproduction - bigger than A0. And really 2A0+ is when the benefits of the resolution of this will show and it'll come into its own.
Exactly, who cares about cropping for a 4x6 picture???🙄 What is the effective MP for a standard ratio 8x10, 16x20 or other print size... A4, A3? (whatever Europe uses) 😄
I´m trying to find out how much is the DLA (Diffraction Limited Aperture) for this camera, as no one is talking about that. I believe that with a pixel pitch of 3.76um (even with a BSI sensor) the DLA will be considerably low, wich can reduce the full potential (and the image quality) of this sensor in lower aperture. What is your opinion about this, and also how the sensors tech will overcome the physics?
I am very happy that this camera is not cheap and I hope it does not radically lower its price in the future, nowadays with so many "photographers" giving away their work I do not even want to think that a monster like this falls into their hands. Well done Fuji!
@@vianditya I'd be surprised, since there was an IBIS rumour for the X-T3 also, but tbf Fujifilm has cannibalised the X-H1 before. So there's no big reason it won't happen. I'm just not a believer. Besides IBIS is pretty useless tech, in most cases it's a sales gimmick. Digital Stabilisation is the future. I'd be more impressed if we could use those extra few megapixels to give us a solid one of those.
Resolution of this kind, in a portable and relatively cheap camera, is going to be hugely popular with many commercial, portrait and editorial photographers. Fuji has found itself, and instantly owned, a new niche for pro' photography, and the keenest and richest amateurs.
Ooooo using the XT3 to record instead of the norm, love that - was it just because you were at a Fuji event or is a change afoot? I’d love to know which profile Jordan used for it :) Great vid as always, the GFX isn’t something I’d need or ever be able to afford, but it looks a beast for magazine/product/model use
Are they calling it large format because of the MP delivery size? Because then did that make the A7R series medium format? And then any 24MP camera full frame? How confusing...
The shot around 8:09 literally looks like a composite...I know it's not but the lighting and separation almost look like a dramatic computer made image lol. I WANT THIS CAMERA though.
These are the cameras for either already established photographers or the reviewers like this chap. Ordinary photographers like us can't afford them. We can only dream about these cameras.
Probably mostly fashion, product, reproduction, realestate, Landscape and that kind of proffesionell work. Or IF you have a lot of cash you want to spend. 😆
While it's nice to dream about uber-resolution cameras, the way photo's are typically consumed these days (compressed online) makes a hard case for anything more than full frame unless you're doing huge prints. Even then, the current generation of crop bodies are pretty solid when paired with sharp glass. Sure, there should be a slight dynamic range advantage with this new Fuji and it should be a smidge better in low light, but at 100MP the pixel density is still pretty high, so I doubt it would be a huge difference. Besides, workflow with those files would be a nightmare. I'll stick with my full frame bodies for now.
@@SpeedyNeo I agree on both counts, though I'm having trouble seeing this camera having any mass-market appeal. It's too slow for sports, too bulky to carry around, and the system as so far lacks any specialty glass for architecture. So where does that leave us? Well-to-do landscape photographers, studio portrait photographers, and product photographers. Most of those mentioned are already pros and have already heavily invested in their systems. Look,, I'm not saying this is a bad camera...I'd love to get my hands on one, I'm just skeptical of it's market appeal. I mean, how many Hasselblad and Phase One shooters do you know?....and even those guys would rather shoot Hassleblad and Phase One I'd bet.
Is the day ever going to come when new graphic user interfaces are animated/refreshed at a minimum of 30fps? Seeing the “electronic dials” turn at what looks like 4fps on this camera gives it such a 1980’s handheld LCD video game look. Why isn’t it smooth as butter? 😆
Because it is an E-ink display, it remains viewable even if there is no battery power. The problem is that it is a slow refresh compared to LCD. Much more viewable in bright light though. A really smart application for that tech, and a great feature on that camera (and XH1).
I will be doing the same. I can take advantage of the resolution in my work, though up till now, most digital medium format was too expensive (and the 50S lacked versatility compared to the D850). But $10k is within reach and will make a significant difference in my output.
it is just a cropped medium format imo. until they give the same sensor size as true medium format (ie 6x4.5 6x6 6x7 6x9), it is just (an enlarged) full frame
I think this is a hard uphill battle for Fuji. They've been selling the idea that APS-C is about as good as full frame, unless you're really particular. I don't believe that is true, but agree that APS-C can do a great job and lenses are cheaper. So now we are naturally going to ask, just how much better is this over full frame? The only substantial upside you mentioned was dynamic range; yeah, bigger sensor, more dynamic range, laws of physics at work. But is it so good that you no longer need to do exposure stacking for landscapes? Or, you can properly expose your model without blowing the highlights, nor needing to use flash? I don't think it's THAT good, at least not right now. So the question is, does it have the potential to be (say, make a A7S2 type camera using this sensor size, reduce resolution down to 50 megapixels but have unicorn level of dynamic range, per what I just wrote)? As for the image quality, of course it's good, but do you think Hassekbled X1D is better? I think so.... And, I don't think anyone interested in this product will care about film simulation modes? As for the lens, that's yet another challenge. Given the price of the system, as well as size and weight, people will expect the lens to be perfect. Perfect sharpness, color rendering bokeh balls, and buttery smooth background. However, the cost of the lens, a lot of it are going into the mere essentials to make them work, more optical elements, more powerful yet quiet motors, and etc....
FYSA: “Large Format” in “cinema/video” terminology is any sensor > 35mm full frame. See this video ua-cam.com/video/rUOYXjH6y7w/v-deo.html at @5:50 for reference. Yes - it is different than the still/photography definition of the term. Note: this was also well defined in the footnote in the Fujifilm press release.

Exactly, who cares about cropping for a 4x6 picture???🙄
What is the effective MP for a standard ratio 8x10, 16x20 or other print size...
In a couple years I will plan to get one.
That black and white video is cinematic!
I am very happy that this camera is not cheap and I hope it does not radically lower its price in the future, nowadays with so many "photographers" giving away their work I do not even want to think that a monster like this falls into their hands. Well done Fuji!
You wanted me rotate my x-t2 booster grip release when u did that :D
I really liked the jazz music! A lot of photo review channels always put edm in the background an i cant stand it, so this was very nice! Keep it up!
Indeed
I'm still waiting for that sweet X-Pro 3 with IBIS and new battery!
If Osama wants it, how can Fuji say no lol
X-Pro3 with IBIS? 😂 Nice dream, buddy. Also there won't be a new battery, you just need need to have a few ready to switch like gun magazines.
@@-grey Well, there's rumor going on about it so it's possible
のぢGrey chill it's just a wishlist. No need to be so aggressive.
When your taking on the boat. Your mic sounds great. What are you using? And did you tweak it in post.?
Resolution of this kind, in a portable and relatively cheap camera, is going to be hugely popular with many commercial, portrait and editorial photographers. Fuji has found itself, and instantly owned, a new niche for pro' photography, and the keenest and richest amateurs.
Jordan! Did you shoot this in eterna? Looks great. Which lens(es) did you use?
Ooooo using the XT3 to record instead of the norm, love that - was it just because you were at a Fuji event or is a change afoot? I’d love to know which profile Jordan used for it :)
Great vid as always, the GFX isn’t something I’d need or ever be able to afford, but it looks a beast for magazine/product/model use
Are they calling it large format because of the MP delivery size? Because then did that make the A7R series medium format? And then any 24MP camera full frame?
How confusing...
Just don't worry about nomenclature and you'll live a happier life. It doesn't affect your life so why worry?
@@mavfan1 true.
It is “large format” sensor in terms of cinema cameras. The cinema/video industry has used the “large” term for anything over 35mm. 🙄
I have never seen rolling shutter quite like this (the shot of the bus).
The X-T3 footage was excellent!
So what exactly is the market for this camera? Maybe the same guys who are going to pop for the new Mac Pro, complete with monitor and stand.
Probably mostly fashion, product, reproduction, realestate, Landscape and that kind of proffesionell work. Or IF you have a lot of cash you want to spend. 😆
Would you be able to compare and contrast the GFX100's eye AF as compared to Sony's latest A7RIII and A9 eye AF? Thanks!
Jordan are you finally switching to the x-t3 and start use auto focus ? :) actually, this is more interesting as x-t3 review.
This was shot on the X-T3, but all manually focused.
We're waiting for a long term review of the x-t3 ;)
Guys, please keep shooting next videos on this xt3, is sooo much better!!
flash time?
So true. I will never get this camera either but I’m a huge Fuji fan and it’s fun just to learn about it.
Can someone tell me why I still prefer the Hasselblad’s more?
Oh my god!!
You guys are in Japan!!
Nice to see you in Tokyo!
12:54 thank god Chris was able to find time to wear his tan pants during a Japanese summer.
Good eye!
These guys have chill jobs 👍
organic oled
So a ooled?
What makes it twice the amount of organic than a normal oled panel?
No pesticides and non-GMO. OLEDs the way our grandfathers would have grown them.
I love the color on this video... Is it a new grading?
This episode is shot on the fuji xt-3. The other episodes are usually shot on GH5
This camera was not made for Instagram posts, clearly. And you don't need FF either for that.
I love that jazz music! Who are playing?
A Sage shirt. Classy Chris - maybe we need more fly fishing in these videos ?
And a Simms shirt as well www.simmsfishing.com/shop/mens/shirts/guide-shirt-marl. Someone has been shopping at the fly shops in Calgary...
@1:27. Broad daylight iso 3200..... f16...... 1/400th ?????
I sold my Nikon gear and jumped ship for this monster. I’m excited for change.
i can smell your wealth
Me too. I sold my kids tho
I will be doing the same. I can take advantage of the resolution in my work, though up till now, most digital medium format was too expensive (and the 50S lacked versatility compared to the D850). But $10k is within reach and will make a significant difference in my output.
@@waveland good for you. Maybe you can rent it out to us plebs once in a while hehe
I just sold my Ferrari GTO to buy this.
it is just a cropped medium format imo. until they give the same sensor size as true medium format (ie 6x4.5 6x6 6x7 6x9), it is just (an enlarged) full frame
so lucky you get to play around with that
Very lucky! And we indeed appreciate having the opportunities that we do.
Another masterclass for Chris and Jordan.
Thank you.
Your choice of music are obnoxious, I love it.
Awesome info as always by Chris and Jordan as always. Eagerly waiting for your review of Canon 1DX Mk iii and Sony A7S iii.
Versatility. Thank you!
