I grew up on Caribou Lake, Minnesota... I go swimming and snorkeling in Lake Superior (North Shore) between Lutsen and Grand Marais...It is the most clear water I have ever swam in my life...I am 52, and it is more clear than ever... Now, people also need to understand Lake Superior is not like this all of the time, in fact is pretty rare... Getting pictures and video is quite amazing in itself when the waves are this huge.... Lake Superior is beautiful, but people also have no concept how fast the weather AND waves can just switch and turn. My cousin who grew up in Grand Marais and went canoeing and Kayaking like all of us his entire life, he was 22 and went kayaking in Lake Superior in the Summer, was a beautiful clear Sunny day. Well as we say, Superiors mood changed in an instant and he and his buddy were killed... It was UNBELIEVABLE news to our family.... Last thing I will say is Superior takes the life of the seasoned and well experienced, the smartest and best of the best, she does not just take dummies that don't know what they are doing... This is what makes her fury so dangerous, But her beauty keeps us going back, and swimming and loving her, even though she has taken loved ones, you can't help but loving her and respecting her, most of all understanding her.....❤❤❤
People dont realize that lake superior is a fresh water Ocean and its waves can change so fast on you when your boating ... nice video
I believe it’s also the only Great Lake, that has its own weather system too
I grew up with the wonder that is Lake Superior. I remember Judge Miles Lord's relentless and successful crusade to stop taconite runoff from polluting this natural source of life. She's big, gorgeous, and ferocious, and we love this lake. Let's all take care of her the best we can, no matter which shore we stand on. Jake, my friends from Utah and Idaho saw Duluth for the first time. I shared this video with them. Well done, young man!! Keep them coming!!❤❤❤❤
Wow powerful
Where are my blankets and a.very.hot cup of coffee!!!!
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
T'was the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'
"Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At seven PM, a main hatchway caved in, he said
"Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the maritime sailors' cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
Edmund Fitzgerald reference
The bell rings 30 times now...RIP Mr.Lightfoot
wow great story/poem. Thanks for sharing it. Oh haha just realized that was a song. I've never heard of it till now. Still thank you for sharing it
I love it!!!! Our Mighty Lake Superior ❤
The MN North Shore is the best!! Sick video 🤙
Yes it is our place is in Grand Marais, Minnesota ❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
I love the great lakes.... it's the one thing I miss tremendously since I moved from MI. Nothing compares to them... not even the ocean. In just 1 state you can see shores like England or dunes so high you think your standing on the coast of Africa's Sahara desert overlooking the Atlantic to ice covered glacial ice flows like Alaska. All this in just Michigan. Its a natural 8th wonder of the world if you ask me. These superior storm waves are incredibly intimidating!
Great video. Love this terrifying lake. Lots of history
Wow!
sound effects and all...beautiful
Impressive!! I LOVE it!
Wow that's awesome 😎
Like mini oceans... what do you expect?
Beautiful ❤
Sea Superior
Imagine your filming this and slip into the water
No lake here this is a sea fursure need to re classify the Great Lakes as the greats seas 💯🤘🏽
I think they should be reclassified as small seas
That's a scary lake
Where was this
wish people stated the date with these videos. any1 know?
Where is this?
Tettegouche on the North Shore of MN!
Does anyone know where the love of God goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?-Gordon Lightfoot
It's on my bucket list to see this region of the country. It this located near Voyageurs National Park ?
You will love it! The whole North Shore. From Duluth MN up to Grand Portage. The boarder of Canada. Absolutely beautiful. So much to see. Nature at its best for sure😊 Lots of waterfalls. And nothing better than our Great Lake Superior!
It's about 150 miles from that park via drive
Tettegouche State Park here😊😊😊
Isn't that incredible !
BRUH I just googled and it said it don't have waves😭
Yeah... it do! We go up there about 3 times a year and there ARE plenty of big waves!!
Doesnt have waves? Have you ever been there? Depending on the weather and whether or not you are in a bay or out in the open. There are rip tides too
Why don't you google THE EDMOND FITZGERALD...... Then tell me my Lake Superior, where I grew up does not have huge waves.... It does not ALWAYS have waves like this, during the Summer we swim off shoreline of Lake Superior between Lutsen and Grand Marais, it is the most clear water I have ever swam in my life...Snorkeling is unbelievable...❤❤❤
How can you see this and deny climate change
