I miss living in Duluth. It’s been 10 years since I was in college, but this city still calls to me. It’s the siren song of my soul. The intensity of the weather, the raw beauty of the land around us, the people. It is home.
I'm like you. When most people want to stay indoors, I want to go out in it. Great to see. What direction was the wind coming from? Must have been East, but that's unusual for Michigan/Minn. One thing- those aren't 50 ft waves. They're 15-20 ft waves with spray (spectacularly) reaching 50 ft when hitting the rocks.
1:12 Going down the hill on I-35 you can see the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin and the big blue of Lake Superior stretching to the horizon. Not this time though, nothing but snow 😂
Yes. Hit by 3 big waves in succession. As reported by the Arthur Anderson who was in the vicinity and was hit by same 3 waves. The Fitzgerald was overweight from what I've read. And had a captain from Toledo Ohio, and at least one of the deckhands was from Toledo and he started to someone he didn't want to be on that boat because the captain would go through any storm like it was nothing. So back then I guess they got paid more for getting overweight. And it's not like trucking where they have to deal with tickets at weigh stations. So that stupidly fearless captain got over loaded and took the boat into a storm. Just saying what I've read. Now days, they don't run in those months and dock the boats.
That was amazing! We live near the lower two Great Lakes, and though I have seen turbulent water on them, I have never seen anything like this! I would love to see this in person. Thanks for posting.
I live on Great lakes. Superior will hurt your bones it can be that cold. I was cutting grass in June I got allergies bad from doing that. Went down to lake and jumped in. My allergies were gone and I cooled down instantly. Also Lake Superior is called Gitchagumme by the Native Americans.
@@Easy-Eightmost of the time….but if you get there at the right time (at least in Milwaukee) you ca get some crazy warm water. Rare. And I don’t know why
Cool shots man, way to go! You might be well served to get yourself a safety harness when you’re solo along those cliffs. Could be the best $100 you ever spent.
Absolutely beautiful. I just found this video and subscribed right away! The video looks to be great quality. Thank you for sharing this. I’m in lower Michigan and am in constant awe of what I call ‘big water’ like Lake Superior. Would you be willing to share what type of camera you are using? I love nature and dream of capturing these types of moments. But not much camera experience outside of my iPhone 😅
I love Tettagouche when the lake is angry:-). That would be a sort of treacherous drive in some spots. That hill going down into Duluth would be one place, and then there are some hills on 61 too that would be harry in the snow/ice. The old road would have been a LOT worse when it was actually closer to the lake in spots. Did you make it to Split Rock at all?
The wind in the Wires, made a tattle sound, As the waves broke over the Railings. And Every man knew, as the Captain did to. It was the witch of November, come stealing.
What is 28.8 feet? The tallest wave ever recorded on lake superior. So, yes those are some seriously impressive waves. They probably are less than 20 feet. Still some great footage and really nice, clear video. Thanks for sharing this awesome event!!
These are splashing above 50' foot cliffs. So he's calling them "50' waves" and although that's *_scientifically_* incorrect. He's not exactly wrong either. They are splashing over 50'. They're just not measuring 50' from trough to crest.
the spray from the waves hitting the cliffs might be 50' but not the actual wave itself. there is not enough fetch on that lake nor wind to blow hard enough
@@xisotopex Yes, wave height is measured bottom of trough to top of crest. These are no where near that. If you google highest wave height ever recorded on Lake Superior you will get results of about 28 - 29 feet.
Could you even imagine it? Being out there and your ship gets ripped in half. You’re on a “lifeboat” getting constantly battered by waves in these freezing conditions. No wonder people don’t survive shipwrecks on these waters. They just freeze to death while being constantly battered by wind and waves. As a native Michigander it really strikes a cord with me. Rip to the mariners who sacrificed their life on these waters.
Currently, I do not have a website to sell photos, but maybe in the future 🤔. If you are interested in one through you can message me on Instagram, FB, or Twitter and let me know what image you are interested in and I can sell you one.
Largest wave ever recorded on any of the great lakes is 30 feet, the lake is not wide enough to porduce any bigger waves, the waves in your video are a max of 15 feet

The SUPERIOR LAKE OF PLANET EARTH LOVE HER THANK YOU.
I usually don't comment but this was awesome!!! We live 10 minutes from Lake Superior (Keweenaw Bay)... Love watching the waves!!!
what i love about the great lakes is that it's freshwater. when it sprays, I don't have to go home and take a shower

On a clear day it’s such a beautiful sight to behold.
I love Lake Superior storm wave videos! Thanks for sharing!
That’s what the Edmund Fitzgerald was dealing with.
That was my first thought when I saw the video clip on Twitter.
The storm that hit on the 10th of November 1975 was actually more intense than this one even. Cannot imagine what those guys went through.
@@carmelitequotes nah, the Fitz was getting slammed by 35 foot waves.

I don't know about the 50+ ft. part, but that's a lot of water moving around. Thanks for posting.
i have stood on the north shore of Lake Superior in Marathon , in Northern Ontario and witnessed the same ...powerful to say the least .
Just stunning and beautiful!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍..... Come to our State, it is just beautiful....🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲..... A Michigainian!!!!!!

Patriotism at its best. Thank you for sharing this part of Minnesota with me. Stunning images. You are BRAVE.
Love that the Canon holds up to all that! It's a camera you can love! Nice video.
Frickin Amazing 😊 I've been up the North Shore many times. And have never seen Superior so wild😳 Thanks for the adventure 🤗🌊

Lady Superior can be very angry!!!! But it is worth seeing it!!!!!!! Love from, Michigan..... 🥀🥀🥀🥀....
Those waves 😮
They are big! 🌊
From one heitmann to another...great video
Thrilling video, talk about braving the elements! So great to experience that. And I-35 was unrecognizable. Do not need all that music, though.
Appreciate your video!
Never been in the great lakes. I think it would be amazing to go in the water with those huge waves and have it be freshwater.
I live here. The water is just cold

Tettegouche is the best spot to view big waves! Did not make it to Split Rock this day, but also a great spot to expercience the lake up close!
i love the twin sprays!
Man that’s astonishing. Id just started watching and immediately subscribed
I swam in that wearing a you're-uh-peein' speedo... it was bone chilling!
Looks exactly like the UP ❤

I was doing that same thing when the Fitz went down

This is Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Song at the end?
Shove that!!! The tropics for me!!!!!
Oh hellllll no. Cannot believe that is the lake.
this is awesome! but i hope you are being careful! also, is your camera waterproof?
Thanks! Always being aware of the surroundings to stay safe! My camera is not waterproof, but canon says it's water-resistant, which I can confirm. 🤣

That’s goggle weather, very cool shots.
I've boated on lake superior all my life and realistically never seen waves bigger the 10 to 15 feet I've never seen bigger
Very cool video, but none of those waves are even 10 feet high
Highest waved ever recorded on any great lake is 29ft.
Mother nature was throwin' a fit on that day. Thanks for the video my friend, good stuff. 👍 👍
Give me Miami any day, this snow is repulsive.👿👿👿😠😠😠😠😠

Ain't no way this is a lake bro
Better stay on those spikes . Cause if you slipped onto your butt you would become a slippery toboggan.
Click bait "50 ft waves". UGH
Still, great to see! I will be moving to the Keweenaw in the not too distant future. 👍
But if you add all those waves up...
That poor camera
Argh !
50ft… cmon man. This shit is click bate. Awesome that a lake has waves but don’t false advertise. This is like 6-8 at most.
Too long of a video. Too
Much of your face and you talking and driving etc. more lake waves less you 🤷🏻
