- Dylan Carlson is a master of the guitar, but not in the typical sense with long, voluminous shredding passages. No, Carlson is a minimalist at heart and he uses the guitar to find and build structures of repetition. His music - playing solo or with his long-time, legendary band Earth - draws on the gloomy mood of country rock, occultish English folklore ballads and experimental jazz, but Carlson doesn't just replicate his influences, he stretches them out and spins them into his own musical cycles.

Love the ‘Night Comes In’ section at the end, just beautiful. Dylan is my favourite guitarist of all time, completely unrivalled in the genre ❤️

My favorite guitar sound of his is the one on "Hex," a single Telecaster string ringing over the bridge pickup for ten or fifteen seconds and going out through a big old Fender cabinet that's been cranked to just under the point of distortion. But this tone is mighty too.
I love Earth in all of their various sounds. However I just have been into "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. The guitar solo song is so perfect for Dylan to play - was looking for a version but no luck.

It sounds a lot like "Even Hell Has Its Heroes." It's hard to have much variation when your schtick is to play mostly open strings :)

I'm sober now but I've done many,many illegal substances in my past including heroin,meth,crack cocaine and more and my hair is long.Plus,I still have lots of hair so maybe your "drugs are bad for hair" statement does not apply to everyone.

I didn't know about Earth until now. The whole time I was listening to this, I kept waiting for the song to actually start. Then I realized it was ending. Maybe I need to listen to some other songs before coming to the conclusion that they suck 🤷🏼♀️
