I have owned this lens for a few years now and absolutely love it. As a person with diminishing eye sight I like to use it for reading distant sign posts when visiting foreign cities and looking at long shots for shooting a photo
I bought my Tamron 70 - 300mm about a year and a half ago ( bought a used one for backup.....don't ask ) for my D7100 based on this review. It is everything you say and a "bag of chips". Keep up the honest and thorough reviews. Your credibility is beyond so many others based on content. Tamron's quality and support led to my purchase of their 75mm lens. Nikon and Canon need to play catch up big time.
Upgraded to 750 and still use this on my 750. While everyone seems possessed by the 70-200, the 70-300 is possibly the most overlooked, underrated lens on the market! If you haven’t pulled the trigger on this lens yet, just DO IT!!
@@genegustafson715 Hello no. Not buying another lens. Will use a tripod. Although that severely limits the use case. I do street photography, so a tripod would be out of the question. At 70 mm hopefully it won't be that terrible. Macro is not an actual macro but 1:2. You get what you pay for I guess. Got it at 100$
I got this lens instead of the Nikon 70-200mm f/4 VR b/c of your review, and I couldn't be happier. The extra range, smaller size/weight, not to mention at 1/5 of the price (I got mine for $250). The sharpness is nearly indistinguishable between the two. I use the lens occasionally for tele landscape. Thanks a lot !
I have a quick question: is this lens also good for shooting very close shots? I noticed the review focused more on long range shots... I love long range shots, but I also love real close ups, where an object or person is very close and in focus (with a out of focus background). I'm very new to photography so I don't fully understand how a 70-300mm range would work with close ups. Please let me know, thanks!
@5:27, If you search Google images for "Fayetteville :1941 Shorpy". The first photo at top left, shows a view from inside with a man standing against the right side of the arch behind you. I knew I'd seen an old photo of it somewhere before. Just thought you'd find it interesting.
I was more impressed with you taking pictures in downtown Fayetteville than the actual use of the lense. I'm thinking about getting the same lense for my Nikon d3200.
I have this lens in Canon EF mount. Works very well on both APS-C (70D) & full frame (R6 & R5 Mk II) cameras. Fairly compact (although the lens hood is fairly big), focus quickly, excellent IS, and very sharp throughout with just a little lost of contrast near 300mm, easily recoverable in post. Very happy with the lens.
Thank you for this video. I did buy this lens and it works great, wonderful purchase. I use it on my Nikon D5300. Just got back from a week vacation on the lake. I kept this lens on my camera then entire week, did not even take out my old standby, Nikkor 28-105mm F3.5-5.6. I agree the VC is incredible,
... hello , nice vid , how many Tamron 70-300 models (versions) out there ?, (for Canon mainly) - searches seem confusing ( or maybe it's me) ... also I suppose the older version does not have VC - what is your opinion about that lens ? ... thank you
Very useful video Cory, thank you. I used to have a Tamron macro zoom a few years back, sadly used it to death. This one looks great, had been looking at the Canon 70-300mm, huge price difference!
Been using a Nikon D40 with its kit lens forever and I'm finally gonna get this lens. I'm so excited. Can finally take better bird and wildlife photos without being so close to them that I scare them away. Excellent review. I'm sold.
Thanks for the review. Is this lens auto focus system fast enough to shoot with Canon 7D Markii? Also which lens you recommend either canon 70-300 or this one?
I couldn't agree more. Since 1998 when I became a semi pro I used 2.8 tele lenses. And yes, I had the canon legendary 70-200 2.8 IS.last years figured out that due to my age, the wight is becoming unbearable. I went for the Tamron 70-300 and found a second hand "good as new" with a receipt for 180€. I find it extremely good lens and VR is simply second to none. I didn't see any quality compromise. Since I bought it I used the2.8 lens only once. That says it all...
hi, I had the opportunity to test it side by side on an old D90 and really the VC is from another planet. Image quality wise, they are very similar, same as for AF speed. I guess the two things that this lens has better over the Nikon are the price tag and the VC.

Hey Corey! Great videos! I'm convinced that I want this Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 Di VC. I have no DSLR now and I'm thinking about the Nikon D5500. The musts are swivel screen and built in WIFI and want to stay under $800 for the DSLR. I would consider other Nikons and Canon. Any suggestions? I didn't understand the 62-77 step up part. Will this lens go on the Nikon D5500? Thank you!
Just bought one, this is the best walk about lens on the planet and really light, travelling in Europe... 2 x 5Ds my 28-70mm 2.8 L and this, every situation is covered.
Hi and thanks for your informative reviews. Shot in real time as you make them, it helps greatly to appreciate the handling. On this particular lens, I had the Nikkor 55-300 which was a mistake, it was a consumer lens and beyond 200mm was problematic, vr wasnt so hot, sharpness the same. I was looking for 70-300 probably the Nikkor, when I found your review, and that of Matt Grainger, and both of these real time review / tests were consistent, in that the VC on this lens is something else entirely. Thank you so much for saving me hundreds of pounds (in the UK) as I have modified my plans and ordered one of these Tamron SP 70-300 VC for my Nikon. I should get it in a day or so, and cannot wait to try some shots around our local harbour and pier. Brilliant, keep the style of these reviews the same! seeing how these go, when out in the field is far more useful than a cold, desk oriented, white coat analysis kind of review, as long as you back it up with images and some testing as you do, you're now my go-to site for checking out before I buy a thing!
trying to shoot the super moon? had help with setting but tested a day before and got reflection so double moon and out of focus blur on orginal subject? got a tip? really dont want to miss this. thanks , great channel too
Enjoyed the video, thanks. How do you think this lens will perform in late-afternoon, early evening conditions for baseball? Many of the games I have to shoot are played in twilight conditions. ... I have a 70-200, but it lacks the range I want for outfield shots and this lens seems like a viable alternative for a reasonable price (if it can shoot fast-moving objects in modest light). Opinions?

I wanna buy this lens soon. But some of my friends says this lens aren't good in focus. When I saw some pictures in google, those pictures looks great.
I got one of these lenses. Refocused on it's own after a second. Too bad because the pictures looked nice and clear. Had to return it. I have a Nikon 70-300 vr so that will have to do for now.

Agree with you. It offers a very good quality of pictures
Quality difference between this and the Nikkor AF-P 70-300mm?
Dude.. you rock man.... such an intense blizful info.. TQ.. am gonna get one
What about the Nikon 70-300 VR? Shouldn't that be the lens you are comparing to?
Just wonder if you can shoot at f4 300mm
why do you use high ISO in daylight, in combinatioin with a shutter speed slower than 1/200, and get good shots? how are they not overexposed?
When jt is zoomed in light is being lowered
Are you using manual focus or u r using Nikon body? because every time it focuses the background instead of you!
I got one of these lenses. Refocused on it's own after a second. Too bad because the pictures looked nice and clear. Had to return it. I have a Nikon 70-300 vr so that will have to do for now.
It`s a great lens, I use it on my Canon 7d / Canon 70d. Great work..
Me too.
Excellent for the prize
