I love how you include your family in your videos, gives it a personal touch
I made a decision while ago: I only will buy lens with stabilizer. It's a big difference in the way of taking pictures with low light, and the handheld framing is easier in good light too. Even normal focal lengths and wider ones benefits from having stabilization
Excellent review Jamie & I have been looking into a long telephoto lens, and this review made a decision a bit easier. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Really good points on Tamron. I should consider to try one. Btw love your photos and video style!
Great video as always. You covered most of the big concerns for both video and photo. Exactly what I need to make my decision :)
I am about to get Tamron 70-300. Thank you so much. Your video help me decide.
emily jolie Thanks. Glad to be of help. I think it’s a great lens for the price.
Thanks a lot. Great no-nonsense review and excellent quality vlog too.
thank you so much for this review!!! I was looking for this review!!! because I am getting the new STM II from canon 70-300mm
Great video and review, well put together, please keep making demo videos as you have a very pleasing way about your presentation .....for the record i own the Tamron and it hardly leaves my camera
Absolutely awesome video. You’ve just practically sold me the tamron haha. It’s vibration control is just amazing, makes it so useable.
love this. The bit about shooting the bird is great. More lens reviews please Jamie
Missed your videos mate! Great work!
I just bought one a couple weeks ago... Scary sharp and the VC is the weirdest thing i ever used, it works fantastic.
Lets see how long it stays alive as the thing is 90% plastic composite, metal base that's a good thing.
After watching your video, I purchased Tamron 70 300 VC from B&H. Thank you so much for the recommendation.
This is a really great video, loved the camera tests and photos.
hey jamie, really enjoying your latest set of videos!
Thanks a lot! You made my decision pretty much easier now! But thanks to your great pictures also! It makes a difference to look I guess! 😊
hi buddy thats been a wile! good to see you again
very useful vid, it`s where I am now with lenses, thinking if my tamron 70-300 needs an upgrade or it`s enough for my everyday use... can`t wait to watch it
A great comparison, thanks!
Thanks mate great video, looking at buying the tamron....
Great review. Very impressed with the image stabilization
emily jolie Thanks. The stabilisation is incredible. I've never seen anything like it before.
I know its a very late comment but thank you for this video because i want to buy the tamron lens. Love the videos you do always learn something new.
Getting the Tamron second hand in really good condition for 150€ for my Sony A7ii with IBIS. Can't wait to try it!
I love the quality of the video.
Man your composition is lit 🔥
Great video mate 👍🏻
I'm looking forward to reading up on the new Tamron 70-210 f4 VC lens. It comes in at roughly $800 USD
Great video mate, I'm a Canon user (Crop sensor) and basically stuck between the two, of which to buy. So this video helped a lot, definitely worth a subscribe.
@@blackie75 Full frame uses only EF lenses, crop can use both - EF and EF-s
Great video Jamie, I just purchased the Tamron and am delighted with it ,at the price what a bargain, keep up your good work Jamie really enjoy your videos.
Very different and useful review Jamie. Not many reviews show the effect of IS.
Tamron looks good can tell me how it would perform in lower light conditions like indoor sport and music gigs please ?
wow. man. really good pictures! :--) cheers from norway
Thanks for this review Jamie, very helpful. I'm going to buy that Tamron lens. Cheaper than the Canon and has image stabilisation, very nice. I'm brand new to photography and am going to buy a used full frame Canon 5D mk 2 which was recommended to me. I wanted to know if this lens can bring birds in my garden close up from 20 feet away, and looking at your image of Big Ben, I'm confident now!
Bought this lens after listening to your review, hope to have it in a few days 👍
Made my decision now. Tamron it is. Brilliant video.Thank you
I have the 70-200 L f4 IS, which unfortunately is twice as much as the non IS, but I think it’s more than twice as good. I have very poor hand holding skills due to medication but I get sharp images down to about 1/20. But I think the IS is about 4 stops which should be about 1/15. so I still fail to get the full value.
Brother u are seriously insane in photography 😍😍😍
Tamron is the choice of your brain, but canon is the choice of your heart
Excellent video, thank you
Great job fantastic video reaĺly well done
Nice review, thanks. One thing I would suggest though is that you quoted the price of the Canon lens (new and used) but failed to mention how much the Tamron could be bought for... I just this minute purchased a "near mint" one on eBay for £140, I think that's a decent used price?
it works well on my a6500 + metabones speedbooster Ultra II... it is more sharper on a6500 @ 2.8 or f4 ...both very sharp..
What about the "new" Canon 70-300 is usm ii nano? They are more similar but Canon seems to be really fast focusing
Great video. thank you!
Thank you , the vídeo is very interesting
will nikon mount tamaron lens hood suit for canon mount??? is the size of each other is different??
I have one, and it is a nice lens, but I find it very soft to the point of blurriness with motorsport photography. I am not sure what Tamron's QC is like - I wonder if I have a bad copy.
I just got the Tamron lens and zoom ring has a little movement or wiggle around the zoom barrel is this normal ?
Would you recommend the Tamron on a Canon 7D fir motorsport pictures. I kind of like to photograph motion blur and stills if you understand what I mean ?
Which one is better for video?
Thank You! 😊👍
Great!! Thank you bro!
hi great video i am deciding between tamron 70-300 and canon 70-200 f4 i stabilized version how would i evaluate tamron with this model i will use on aps-c but i want ff in the future
I want to use it for a report or a street outside and here and there some animals / nature / sports and the like
Which is worth buying? is there a big difference?
I'm on my second Tamron SP 70-300 VC USD.
The AF motor of the first got broken in a few days (I bought that lens used).
The second, it frequently gives "Err 01" error on my 5D Mark III frame.
What could be the problem? Asides that, I love this lens, but got a very nice offer for a Canon 70-300 IS USM. Does it have similar image quality?
hello! Tamron SP 70-300mm is old version from 2010 year?
I know this is an old video but how do these 2 stack up against each other with AF speed?
Is tamron 70 -300 good enough for bird photography on a cropped sensor body?
New sub here. Im new to photography. I went out and took photo's for my mate of his 3 year old yesterday with the 50mm 1.8 prime. Im wanting to get a 70-200 or 300. Is this tamron still a great buy today or is there other lenses that can now be had which offer better value?
Thanks
Hi!
Between Tamron SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD and Canon EF 70-300 IS USM II which do you recommend? I want to use especially for sport events (indoor and outdoor). Also I will use in a Canon M50 with viltrox speedbooster adaptor.
And the price for Tamron is around 330 euro and for Canon is 480 euro.
Thanks!
I would like to know which will focus faster. Do you or someone know?
Thk u
Great video!
Very nice video , thank you.
I think that particular Tamron lens is almost a mistake. It’s a cheap zoom but has amazing vibration control ( as you showed) and is capable of extremely sharp photos. Maybe it’s too cheap for its abilities and is ignored by “serious” photographers........ well it can’t be that good at that price........ can it??????
Jamie, really appreciate your time and effort on this. Do you have an idea on how the 70-300 compares to the latest 18-400 or the 16-300 both from Tamron? Only asking because of the added versatility the latter lenses offer. Thanks in advance.
I would take my 70-300 over either the 18-400 or the 16-300mm Tamron. The 16-300 has a lot of CA on the short end and is really soft on the longer end. the 18-400 is soft wide open and softer on the top of the image then towards the bottom but when stopped down to f8 or f11 it becomes sharper by has lower contrast. The original 70-300 works great and even work well using the Tamron 1.4 converter, and will give you a effective reach of 672mm on a APSc body. Here is a photo I took using my Canon SL2 APSc body and the 70-300 lens with a Tamron 1.4 converter ISO 800 - f 6.3 - 1/500'sec mypics.findmoore.net/images/dwmoar/ringneckdove.jpg
Is it the len or the camera when you move and the video gets jittery?
I'm going from crop to full frame and sometimes shoot motorosport. I feel like ile need more reach than my Canon 70-200L F4 (NON IS) offers. I could trade it in and get the cheaper Tamron 70-300 F4-5.6 VC. Not sure :/
got a brand new-like tamron for 146pounds (172 euros), was it a good deal?
You have put the hood on the 70 300 lance, what is its name and where can I find it, what is the name of this hood I Want to Buy this..... Plz Reply Me
Been using it from last 6 years. Excellent lense in good lighting. However struggles to focus in bad lighting conditions.
Could not agree more. For this reason I just ordered a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM. I’ve had way too many blurry photos on cloudy days. My Tamron 70-300 will be relegated permanently from my camera bag.
I used my 70-200 f/4 with 1/50th of a second and it was very sharp. Why such a difference?
What is the Sigma alternative for this Tamron lens?
Bro does it have stabilisation for photography? Compared to canon 75 300 which is better for image quality?
I had the Tamron when I was using a Nikon D800 and I loved it but when I bought a Canon 7D Mark 2 I bought another one for it and simply could not make it work. It might have been a bad copy but it wouldn't give me a sharp image.
Great video
Thanks sir for na tips god bless
Would you say the Tamron is compatible with the Nikon d750
Got myself a used Tamron for $160 :P
really good video
Great video! What lighting are you using at the end of video??? The rings in your eyes are spectacular!!!
i want to use this for a aps censor lens will that work also if i wanted to switch to a full frame lens and use the same lens ?
I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Both these lenses will work on APS-C and FF cameras.

Thanks for sharing video
That VC just makes it killer, huh? I really want to see it compared to professional 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses... I know already that the Tamron will make sharp photos at lower light to make up for the fact that it's not f/2.8- and subsequently I don't think the bokeh would be as great as a f/2.8. Is bokeh the only thing separating the Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 VC from any professional 70-200 f/2.8?
Thanks
would it be ok to stay in av mode on normal shooting with f8 and iso 100 depending on light
Decision made👍cheers
Does the Tamron lens work on a Canon full frame or is it mainly for Crop sensors? I heard the vignette is bad with full frame
It's made as a full-frame lens. 70-300 is a focal range designed for FF cameras. I haven't noticed any vignetting issues.
You don't think this lens would cut it for video on a tripod?
Tamron 70-300 lens parasoley what name
which one would you prefer for shooting sports, particularly horses that are always moving?
Tks
Hi mate, still new to photography. Will this lens fit the Canon 1300D?
Cheers
Which camera u r using .uncle?
Is this compatible with the Canon 80d? And it is worthy to upgrade on the latest model A030?
Thanks 👍
It is compatible., If you already have this, you don't need to upgrade to next version, however you can save up money, for 2.8 versions of Canon or Tamron.
Well I guess I'm going for the Tamron, I already got myself a 24-70 Tamron and my current camera (Canon 5D) doesn't do video so that's ok.
Have you had any experience with the Canon 200mm f2.8 prime Jamie? I currently have that Tamron lens, and while it's a great lens (really good value for money), it's not really doing it for me anymore. It's a bit dark, and the colour profile is quite flat on it. I need a lens for forest bird photography that's reasonably light, bright max aperture and good autofocus (as well as having a close focus distance). IS is helpful but not completely necessary for me. Cheers.
Nomanners2100 I owned it once. It was pretty good. Certainly better colours than the Tamron and the Canon zoom Ls, but it was inferior to the 135mm f/2L and with its fixed focal length being rather restrictive, I didn’t find much use for it. But I was using it for weddings, so maybe you might find it better.
Thanks Jamie, that's useful feedback. Yes, the 135 f2 looks like a lovely lens. :) A bit short for my applications though.
Jaime, excellent video! I see a MASSIVE improvement in this video production as opposed to your earlier works. I've been a subscriber for a while and have enjoyed your videos, but this video stands out as far as the quality of content. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I've decided to put a bit more effort into the production and dedicate myself to making videos a lot more regularly.
