I'm pretty skeptical. She supposed to be a 16 year old girl who goes to live in Italy with her father, one she barely knows, after her mom passes away. She uses her mom's old journal as a guide but she also uses it to learn more about her mom's past to uncover gaps about her mom's past.. I just don't see any of that portrayed here :/ The magic of the book is gone with this type of adaptation..

I freaking love the book! It made me tear up, laugh, and want to travel. But this trailer already hurts me a bit. Why change the Florence setting? No Ponte Vecchio or Duomo cathedral? The book is about a teenager trying to cope with her mom's death and uncovering her family secrets through the mom's journal, adventuring through Florence, where her mom went, with a guy, but also working through getting to know her father. Her friend Addie is in the States, communicating long distance. I love Lina, Ren and all the mysterious family stuff. This looks nothing like Love & Gelato!

The back cover mentions it being set in the Tuscan region (where Florence is), the fact that she doesn't want to be there at first and only is going because her mom wanted to after her death to know her father she's never met, and that a guy named Ren is her tour guide. Just going off the trailer, her friend from home is now with her & Ren isn't as active as her guide and they did drop Ren's friend group and a Brit, Thomas, she had a brief interest in (a group who added to her forging her way to make new friends). According to the video & a cast list, they made up Alessandro for a full love triangle that isn't even what the book is about.

They completely change the storyline not just the location. They also added and removed characters. They missed out the adventure Ren and Lina had in Florence. When my mom first told me this film was going to be released, I almost died of happiness, but after seeing this trailer I am disappointed and there are several reasons for that. First things first, she looks a lot older than in the book, and her physical traits are off. She's supposed to be tan with dark curly hair. The fact that this was also filmed in Rome, thins the charm
since a lot of events have to be in the Florence atmosphere and the city is not as overused as Rome for shooting movies and series. I'm this close 🤏 to making an adaptation on my own.

“It’s so bad I wanna give you a zero but that’s not possible so I give you a one.” 💀💀😭 Literally and the only reason it gets a 1 is because I liked Howie/Howard. It’s insane how the person playing her mom’s narrator did a better job than the female lead (Lina) She could not act for shit and had no chemistry with any of the love interests. Tbh she had more chemistry with her adopted dad (Howie) so if that’s not saying something idk what is. Her acting felt flat and super over done a lot of the time. Her facial expressions were awful too and she just did not capture the essence of Lina. The girl who played her best friend (Addie) is a much better actress and I feel like literally anyone else could’ve been chosen to play the lead. Her love interests were Italian and they did an okay job with what they’re were given and you could see them trying to have chemistry with the lead but it just was not possible. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone. I wasted nearly 2 hours of my life 😭😭 don’t waste yours :)
Pro tip, read the book instead
