- I test 8 IKEA LADDA's 2450 mAh AA batteries through a range of charge and discharge profiles to determine if they live up the their capacity claims, and discuss results. Enjoy!

Forum one engineer to another. A great and straightforward approach to testing and reporting your findings. Thanks
The white label batteries were great but the new green batteries that replace them are junk, junk, junk. Originally I noticed they didn't have the same capacity when using. So I ended up buying an opus 3100 so I could get a better idea of what this battery is about. These will charge to 2450 as rated on the shell but they lose about %30 of capacity very quickly. I repeated this several times with sets of 3: standard eneloop, ikea green, ikea white and the results were pretty consistent. Initially, fully charged they record about 1.47v. Eneloop - 1900, green and white, 2450. Ok, not exact but in the same ballbark. Week later, all 3 are about 1.35v but when I charge them again on the opus, eneloop and white label batteries add about the same mah, but the green at 2 times or more. Or, the green have lost about 25-30% capacity. I did this multiple times, and got similar results which also compares the same as the original tests that I did with a flashlight. And I'm not sure if the discharge rate declines over time but I hope so.
2:16 label alignment on point!
I just noticed! Totally by accident. Thanks for watching!
Would be great if you can do something similar with chargers. Thanks
Great series of videos on these batteries.
The ladda 2450 are Ni-MH, yes? That box looks to confirm that, but want to ask..
Just found you channel, really link the information and explanation, very useful. Question about rechargeable batteries, would you recommend them for use in a headlamp or should I stick with conventional alkaline batteries. Thanks for your work and your opinion.
As long as the headlamp operates predictably with rechargeables (occasionally some don't), I say go for it! Just look for high capacity low-self discharge batteries like the LADDA 2540s. Thanks for watching!
@@TheCuriousEngineerChannel Thanks for getting back and for your input. LADDA batteries do seem the way to go. Thanks
It looks like this test is not actual anymore, as Ikea started selling different batteries in 07/2021 with higher price.
i bought a couple of them today. they are now 6.99€ or 8.20$. They still are made in japan and cost under half that of eneloop pros here. i did a very simple test in my canon speedlite 580EXII and found the charge time just the same as the old LADDA from 3 Years ago and new eneloop Pros. They are still a really good value. I also dont notice any difference in how long the Charge lasts. Even if they are different cells, the difference seems marginal. Hell if they last as long as my old beat to hell ones, im happy.
I actually found this channel while battery shopping. I noticed you reviewed the IKEA battery charger well before you reviewed the actual batteries and your conclusion in that video was that it would be fine to use with the IKEA batteries but not so much the Eneloops due to the current fluctuations. However, given how similarly these perform to the Eneloops Pros, would you still recommend that charger? I have an 8-bay from PowerOwl and I'm going to assume it works the same as the 4-bay charger you tested and say it's not good, but I wouldn't mind sending it to you for testing. I need about 30 more cells, an 8-bay charger and maybe even upto a 16-bay charger. The rule of thumb I heard is that you want to be able to charge up to half the batteries you own at any given time, but I might have to settle for two or three 8-bays.
Thanks for watching! I have a more in depth video coming up on the IKEA charger. What 4-bay charger are you referring to?
So, with higher discharge currents their capacity grows? It looks really weird, if yes...
Are the new Rechargeable batteries still the same cells?
I would think so. I am on the look out to pick some up and test them. Thank you for watching!
@@TheCuriousEngineerChannel Can you do a video comparing the new laddas
@@k9-charlie711 Once I can get them, I will. They are not yet available in my area. Thanks for watching!
At 5:49 What is that White battery, BL written over it and rolling there ?
That an EBL battery rolling around over there!
@@TheCuriousEngineerChannel Thanks for replying back.
My local ikea is all out of them. I needed some more aaa and I got tired of waiting and ended up getting some more eneloops.
Mine just got them in stock last week after waiting many months
@@lanemurphy8395 thank you for the heads up! I'll check my local store again!
@@burhanbudak6041 damnit. I been looking for the AAAs forever. Still none at my Ikea but they still have AAs. I think they are still the Japanese ones.
Eneloops are good :)
If using ikea charger, how many hours that the battery will fully charged?
I've only tested the TJUGO to date, and that is an overnight charger. Thanks for watching!
If you're using STENKOL charger and the 2450 LADDA, these are the approximate charging times, depending on many are charged at the same time (the charging current varies depending on that).
1 or 2 slots occupied: 4 hours
3 slots occupied: 6 hours
4 slots occupied: 8 hours
Source: STENKOL manual.
The LADDAs are discontinued
I got them online at IkEA. 6.99 for 4 so I bought a bunch. Made in Japan they still say.
@@jimbobxcityguy5338 If you like them, get more while you can.
my ikea has some that look different but still say lada, the capacity is 1900 and I think it says 1000 cycles. They have a light blue wrap on them. Oddly they don't show online.
when have you bought these 1900 LADDA batteries?
