When I was younger I thought Horst-Wessel-Lied was an original song. I can remember being shocked when I found out it wasn't composed by Robert Prince. The march to war is basically a medley of various Patriotic anthems including Yankee Doodle/Yankee Doodle Boy, Dixie's land, Your a grand old flag?, Taps and even a bit of Horst-Wessel-Lied before ending with God save the king/God bless our native land. Part of Victory March is also based on a hymn called Guide me O Thou. And Funk You is reminiscent of Black is black by Los Bravos. Funnily enough with the exception of Funk You The March to war and Victory march are 2 examples of my least favorite songs in the game, I prefer the more creepy and atmospheric tracks like Suspense, Into the dungeons and Twelfth hour. And Nazi Anthem is another remix of Horst-Wessel-Lied. I sort of prefer Spear Of Destiny's music selection.
My great grandfather saw this game before he died, he lived through world War 2, this game must have really spoke to him. He used to have an old vynal record of the first menu music and even had a bunch of pictures of him at cons with guys dressed like the enemies and final boss. He died peacfully at the ripe old age of 99 in his villa in Argentina.
First time I heard Enemy Around the Corner was a Final Fantasy game on this online site called Byond. You heard it if you attacked guards or other players, being sentenced to a location simply known as the cube. I heard the song again on a countdown for stupid conversational moments which referenced this game. So, this is where DA KYUUUB came from.
Horst-Wessel lied! So much yesss!!!1 I wish I could show that pic and this game to the very people who had to endure that awful song (and all it stood for) so many times - revenge!
Some of the tracks seem to strike me as possibly themes for the different enemies. To me at least, "Get Them Before They Get You" always struck me as being the theme for the guards, "Twelfth Hour" seems to be the theme for the S.S. guys and "Zero Hour" (due to its speed and energetic feel) seems to be the theme for those fast-as-hell officers. As for those zombie guys with the pistols on their chests, "Enemy Around The Corner" might be a good theme for them since you simply never know when one will pop up.
Oh this game and another one… DOOM my uncle had both those on is Windows 98 computer I know it's not right for a five year old to watch the demos of those two games but alas I was drawn to both of them mum and dad wouldn't play them… I can vividly remember dad trying and it was great because it was this particular game… This and doom introduced me to the FPS style of gaming it would take seven more years after that will need to acquire a copy of quake two and also a group I was going to ironically called computer, club had the original quake and unreal tournament 99 I also installed on their computers throughout the years quake three Arena quake two and have played numerous sessions of alien versus predator the original the sequel and primal hunt out of all I would say the most favourite game wasn't even bought in by me it was by someone else who bought in the game blood… Which blew my 12 year old brain out of existence now I am 24 years old and have got the new doom game I own all of the quake franchise except for the original and many ports of doom (Windows 98 emulator on my custom-built PC that has got Windows 10 and I am definitely going to resurrect some of these golden gems from my children to play! I make beats and the F'in guy who made this soundtrack (outside of a couple duds) is a damn genius, I'm telling you. These tracks just hit so hard. 7:15, 9:35, 11:55, 16:00, 25:13, and 43:41 specifically .. BANGERS. Grab a pair of Yamaha HS7s or your favorite headphones and just listen very carefully. It really puts you in that mode. I will just stop and listen to 43:41 a lot of the time. It's just so good.
"Into the dungeons" was my favorite! And it sounds like DOOM (by the way, "zero hour" and "suspence" too, while "enemy around the corner" sounds like "hellriser" ;))

This is a EXCELLENT hardware rip.
2:05 It's a smilliar as a Ojciec Mateusz Intro/Outro
no nie sądze
4:35 Wait isnt this music used in the second level of the first episode of doom II?
d00mer 34
Actually they do
The second episode is the city levels
And I’d like to remind you that this was the foundation of Doom 1993.
Your great grandfather was a hero
Funny thing to consider.
The length of this soundtrack is slightly more than one hour.
The OST for a modern shooter is... well :)
+EnjoyCocaColaLight ...yes? is well what?
short?
i guess that is to be expected from games like CoD and battlefield with their little-to-no-ost's
SuperSenketsu Exáctement!
Fairly sure most games nowadays have soundtracks way past one hour.
EnjoyCocaColaLight depends on the game usually rpgs have fairly long soundtracks
@@theKbott Now let's talk about games that have more than 1 hour of good soundtrack
"the march to war" is the best.
mine too
but let's all agree that the whole soundtrack is quite epic.
pounding headache might be my favorite
I agree :D
i think i've heard 16:02 somewhere before, but i don't know where
ACHTUNG! GUTEN TAG! MEIN LABEN!!! SPION! AIEEE!!!!
Auf Weidersein....
This... game... is...
EPIIIIIC!!!!!! :D :D :D
HE DA
Eva, Auf Wiedersehn!* :D
XDDDDD
Auf weidersein? Beeing on Weider? 😂
Actually, this game is id. Epic came later, around 1998.
The main theme song is so amazing.
Need to learn this shizzle.
host wesseI Iied
Not sure he's gonna love it when he finds out
Horst-Wessel lied! So much yesss!!!1 I wish I could show that pic and this game to the very people who had to endure that awful song (and all it stood for) so many times - revenge!
Wondering About My Loved Ones is by far my favorite one out of all of these
52:11 15:58 43:31
I think the track that comes before End of Level is really good. It sounds almost like Blake Stone
A timeless soundtrack.
I was really young when I first played this and had no idea at the time that the title theme was the Nazi anthem. I loved the music for this game.
My graphics card can handle gigabytes of data per second. And I spent all night playing game that fits on a single floppy disk...
Can't blame you; this game is timeless
Oh and one more thing…Mein Leben!
Really surprised about the Wolfenstein menu selection music which is really called "Wondering about my loved ones" cool man I always knew it had a actual name Don't be seen Or SPION!!!! where is the song "Hitler waltz" "Salute",and "Victors" appear at?? never heard those songs before lol! I remember playing this first shooter games as kid in 1992 the year it was released glad I still have this On DOS older windows 98 PC.
Schutzstaffel!...MEIN LEBEN!
Spion!...NEIN SO WAS
Zero Hour
such an underrated piece
I make beats and the F'in guy who made this soundtrack (outside of a couple duds) is a damn genius, I'm telling you. These tracks just hit so hard. 7:15, 9:35, 11:55, 16:00, 25:13, and 43:41 specifically .. BANGERS. Grab a pair of Yamaha HS7s or your favorite headphones and just listen very carefully. It really puts you in that mode. I will just stop and listen to 43:41 a lot of the time. It's just so good.
"Lurking" is my fave...
42:21 probably the most well known Wolfenstein song
"Into the dungeons" was my favorite! And it sounds like DOOM (by the way, "zero hour" and "suspence" too, while "enemy around the corner" sounds like "hellriser" ;))
Wolfenstein 3d. The Godfather of first person shooters and original Nazi killers. Also, look up Spear of Destiny. The original first person shooter add on....
I think addons existed before Wolfenstein 3d.
@@sebastiankulche What other first person shooter had add ons before Wolf 3d?
@@81carlos Oh, first person shooters probably not.
*Starts humming the Horst Wessel Lied tune - elderly man approaches me in the supermarket where I work*
"Ja, I know zis vone!"
Horst Wessel Lied and Nazi Anthem are the songs from Wolfenstein I will always remember.
When this came out in ‘92 my friends dad mail-ordered the original for him ($50!), and they strongly refused to let me COPY DAT FLOPPY, even after I offered to pay them for it.
But the rest of us kids would just give each other copies of everything from games to porn without a second thought - You could fit like 10-20 low-quality jpg’s on each floppy disk.
Yeah... Early 90’s school lunch break was basically IRL Pirate Bay/Silk Road. We felt like hardcore hackers, doin all this hi-tech stuff.
Seems like a great and awesome time to grow up. I guess I was born a little too late, 1988. Bit too young to be fully emerged in the great games era of the nineties.
Yes, that were the days. I was born in 1989 and started playing videos games as a 4 years old little fella and had the great pleasure of experiencing the time and happenings you wrote down. so good.
4:35 I never get bored of listening to this
Some of the tracks sound rather off from what I remember. Even the Steam version with Dosbox emulation does not have some the weird/odd sounds that i'm hearing in this.
its a MIDI output try it on an ESS AudioDrive 1868 that may had been what you were originally playing it on. My experience was almost right on with this soundtrack.
