- Bare Knuckle Pickups Comparison Polymath vs Nailbomb - Alnico Bridge Pickup Shootout & Test In a Mix & Isolated
Video comparing 2 high gain bridge pickups by Bare Knuckle Pickups, the Polymath (Alnico V) vs Bare Knuckle Pickups Nailbomb (Alnico V) on my Solar Guitars S1.6PB equipped with an Evertune bridge.
They're both great and versatile but I'd say the Polymath can do pretty much any genre, it has some excellent split coil sounds and it's great for cleans and edge of breakup.
If you're in the market for a Metal Bridge Humbucker that can also cover the sounds a more traditionally voiced pickup would, these are 2 great choices. As such, besides Metal I tried playing some Rock, hard rock, clean & Solo/Lead stuff.
… making this video made me want to try their other pickups even more, I already own the Bare Knuckle Aftermath (which I love), so maybe the Bare Knuckle Painkiller, Bare Knuckle Unity, Bare Knuckle Peacemaker or Bare Knuckle Triptych Rabea Massaad next?
Hope you enjoy!

I love BKP and I must say that polymath is incredible, just incredible. The unity is underrated too
For sure mate, the Polymath is one my fav pickups of theirs. Must try the unity at some point, sounds awesome on all the demos I’ve heard. Another fav here is the VHII, I don’t hear people talk about it much but it sounds fantastic.
Beautiful, love the versatility of the Polymaths in my Les Paul. Great job showcasing these pickups
Thank you mate, appreciate it! I bet they sound awesome on your Les Paul, these pickups are very versatile indeed 🍻
Great work my friend! Nice playing and nice sound! Keep the covers coming!!🎸
Thanks mate, very cool of you - really appreciate it! 🍻
This is awesome and very helpful! I found if I glanced away from the screen I’d always come back when I heard the polymath. The nailbomb sounds kind of niche so it’s awesome for the heavier full on distorted tones, but the polymath sounds incredibly versatile.
Hi mate, thanks for checking the video out. For sure, the polymaths are very versatile and organic sounding, the Nailbombs seem to be a bit more “sculpted” and voiced towards metal - both great, but the polymaths defo have something special about them🍻
Man, that was an amazing comparison. Please keep making content like this 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I have the polymaths in a 28” scale baritone, thinking I need the nailbombs in the Jim root jazzmaster now. Thank you
Thank you so much my friend, very cool of you! Will keep at it for sure :)! Nice one, I can imagine the polymaths sounding awesome on a baritone guitar, they're such great pickups. A set of Nailbombs on a Jim Root Jazzmaster makes a lot of sense here, I had a jim root tele with the stock emgs and if there was one thing I'd change about that guitar would be the pickups, at the time I was considering the juggernauts since they work so well on bolt-on guitars, but if not the Nailbombs would be a close second, specially for down-tuned riffage 🍻
Amazing underrated channel! Please keep going!!!
Thank you so much mate, really appreciate it! 🍻
Watching your videos I was pretty sold on the nailbomb, and now I like the polymaths more haha
Great videos though. Quality is top notch, and your tracks/riffs are good too!
Haha, they’re both great, but the Polymaths sound the best here too.
Thanks mate, really appreciate it 🍻
Came for the pickup comparison. Stayed for the incredibly tasty playing
Ha, that’s awesome! Thank you so much mate, very cool of you 🍻
I got a set of the Nailbombs and they are an absolutely perfect fit for me. A massive wall of sound with an unmatched clarity.
Other than that, have you ever tried pickups from Lace? Got a bunch of them and they are gorgeous too!
Keep up your fine work. You do magic with your fingers!🤘
Thank you so much, that’s very cool of you to say my friend! I haven’t tried Lace pickups yet, I know the guys from Mastodon used to have signature pickups with them and those sounded cool on the demos I’ve heard - do you recommend any particular models to check out? 🤘🏻🍻
@@gabriel_guitaryou’re welcome. I’ve tried a lot from Lace and they’re all fantastic. But The ones I can really recommend are the “Sabertooth” and the “Fingerburners”. They also have a unique look!
Both sound awesome. Depends on the scenario but I would choose the nailbomb. I know how they work with my set up already and they make me grin ear to ear every time.
Nice one mate, hard to go wrong with the Nailbombs 🍻
Awesome comparison! Which pickup has a quicker/tighter bass response and feels better under the hand?
Thank you mate, really appreciate it. I’d say the Nailbomb is tighter in terms of bass response, but to me the Polymath feels way better under the hand, I also find it to be a lot more versatile. 🍻
🤘😎🤘
Love em both, but NB for me.
Nice one my friend, they’re both great indeed 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks! I’ve been hoping you would bring in the Polymaths. Not sure how others hear them but first listen the Polymaths have more low mid girth and a more rounded top, and the Nailbombs more a vocal/honky midrange and upper mids. Curious how the Polymaths felt, some say harder to play. Did you find that?
Hi mate, you’re welcome and cheers for checking the video out. Yes indeed, that’s pretty much how I’d describe the difference between these 2 pickups, it’s quite noticeable on the clean and edge of breakup tones, the Nailbomb defo sounds a bit honky in comparison. Love the feeling of the polymaths, very responsive and dynamic, but I didn’t necessarily feel it was harder to play than the Nailbomb. 🍻
Sounds great. Thanks for the reply!
@@jayl5941 my pleasure mate!
I have a ceramic set of Nailbombs in my demolition Jackson V guitar. They sound Amazing. Harmonics for days.😮😅
Nice! Been meaning to try the ceramic version, sounds awesome online🍻
Pretty close, but hear more color in the BK, it sounds less refined/processed and that's a good thing. one other thing, the BK seams to emphasize the frequencies that are NOT mixed out when recording or playing live. That is what I hear anyway. Good job BTW
Thanks my friend, appreciate it 🍻
They are both Bare Knuckle Pickups...
lol which bk?
@@beefnacos6258 NB was in my head when I typed this lol, dam fingahs
How does the Polymath compare to the mule or silo?
Polymath sounds here brighter than the other two in the other comparisons.
Hi mate, I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle, it has more of a PAF character than the Silo, but to me the Mule is a bit brighter, I might work on a comparison soon, I’ll have a better idea then :)
i wish a bkp polymath with 12 poles screw...
Please, can somebody create ScreamGPT so that we add vocals to these great riffs? 🙃
😂😂😂 this made my day, obrigado amigo!
The nailbomb sounds super honky compared to the Polymath. It has more mids, more high mids and the bass is tigher. As perfectly explained by Nolly, the Polymaths are squishy, the attack doesn't have this modern metal attitude, without feeling vintage either.
I am very interested in a test of the Polymath versus the Rebel Yell (which is my absolutely favorite "hot but not HOT" pickup. It has this "rocknroll fuck yeah" attitude and I'm pretty convince that the Polymath fills the same gap in output and response but for progressive styles.
Nice one mate, the Rebel Yells are the pickups that started my interest for BKP but for some reason I never actually played them, it’s on my list of pickups to try out in 2024, and it’d be interesting to compare them to the polymaths for sure 🍻
You won't be disappointed@@gabriel_guitar
Does the polymath feel lower output?
It’s weird, it doesn’t feel like it has less output, it should by reading the specs, but it’s a very responsive pickup and feels awesome to play.
@@gabriel_guitar very interesting. I read somewhere it needs to be placed really close to the strings as well
Yeah mate, I thought I'd have to do the same, but kept the pickup height the same on both pickups. It's interesting that the Polymath actually sounds like it has more output on some of the riffs, it shouldn't by looking at the meters.
How much do these pickups cost.😗
@@HuhuhjoeDevi lol a lot
Polymath sounds modern, Nailbomb sounds hotter.
