    Just bought one, good investment for my collection and prevents the makeup brush snagging on sharp edges. Nice recommendation.

    It's pretty cool. I wish it wasn't so expensive. Now that most of my pieces are behind glass I'm not so worried about the dust. I do like the makeup brush method more

    Wow Chris this Motrine product sure gives a new meaning to the term blow job. The only problem is the dust doesn't disappear, it just goes into the air and lands on something else. I would have liked it more if it had suction with a nosing tube that has a soft brush at the tip with holes. That way as you dust with the brush it would suck in the dust into a cylinder, where you can then empty into a garbage bag. Then you can reinstall the cylinder back on the mini vacuum and ready to go at it again. Still the motrine doesn't look bad and it's great that it is portable. Please take care and stay safe.

    My one issue with stuff like this is that the dust just goes somewhere else. I like things that capture dust, like the Swiffer duster, but of course it's impractical for most statues unless they have big flat-ish areas haha. So this is great but you would need to get the dust off all other surfaces after and also keep the floor super clean.

    • @animegeek6118

      That’s why you dust them off on the rug so you can just vacuum that shit up😁

      @@animegeek6118 haha that's a great approach actually, here I swear half the dust is just gonna fly off onto nearby statues

    Thanks for the tip. If I ever used that thing or even the brush, I always make it a point to remove some of the parts from the statue. I remember one of them getting knocked off during a cleaning on one of mine.

    I got a handheld air duster/vacuum from Opolar and I like that because I can blow the dust off then suck up as much of it as I can so it doesn't settle back down on the statues. But I do still use the makeup brush. I mainly use the air duster to vacuum up the shelves that my statues are on.

    I ordered it through your link for $69.99. I might have been the last one to get it for that price because it’s now $79.99…just in time…ha. I always wanted one. Had been using the cans, but I’m done with them. I will also turn my air purifiers on high to collect the flying dust. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • @barbibishop7362
    @barbibishop7362 3 роки тому +3

    Heavy duty good quality air purifiers are definitely helpful in a statue room to minimize any excess dust … air blowers just make the dust blow up into the air and then it just settles back down again. Need something small that actually attracts the dust to it - like a disposable swiffer type duster tool that you cut up into smaller pieces to get into the smaller places.

  • @WitchKing73

    Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Tip o' the collecting cap, your statues appeared on the television as pretty clean to begin with. It might've made a more compelling video demostration to use the blower on at least one piece where the dust was actually visiable to the viewer.

    Since I don't have many pieces in my collection, I tend to disassemble and dust every single little piece using brushes but does take up time. This would help out tremendously! I would still take off any wobbly parts from the statue before using this thing. This would help out on bases which do have small hidden areas. I like that it has no cord and has a classy look.

    make-up brushes are my first go-to but something like this could be a nice addition. Caution should be taken on smaller or PVC statues,which are lighter, as the high speed blower could knock over those lighter pieces and break them.

    I just permanently left a mark on one of my figs because of a canned air duster shooting out it's chemicals. It's only visible under bright light and from a specific angle so luckily most of the time you can''t see it. However it still sucks since it's relatively expensive fig. The can shooting out stuff happened a couple of times before but i didn't see any visible marks so i thought it was oke. I also read online that using canned air was fine. I didn't even think about any potential damaging chemicals that might be in there. If i'd known i would've never used it.
    TLDR: don't use canned air.

    I like this product and although the price is a bit high it will save you a lot in the long run if you use those air cans. The only criticism I would have is that it does not offer a thinner nozzle for very tight places… that addition will make a big difference in my opinion :). Thanks again

    It looks cool and I will probably order one but how long does a charge last? Another thing that would make it even better would be different settings on it for more fragile parts of statues. A low setting I think, would be better for statues that don't have the strongest magnets or just plain fragile.

    I use both these days. I dust everything with a makeup brush, then finish off with an electric air duster similar to the one you featured.
    I did use compressed air once upon a time. Besides the chemicals, it's too powerful on initial blast (I actually blew paint off a statue with it once), then very quickly not powerful enough. Compressed air has almost no longevity/endurance past a minute or two.

      Museum putty is your friend. I use it for all my statues. Had a couple of earthquakes, not one statue moved. You can use small amounts of the putty to hold small stuff as well. That blower ain’t moving anything once the putty is applied. And yes, the putty doesn’t stain and it’s removable.

    The problem is either with this thing or with a make up brush, the dust just flies and lands somewhere else. So you don't get rid of it. Can use a small vacuum but that has a chance to vacuum a part inside so that is not a very good choice either. I'm still looking for a better solution.

  • @arcaderunner2188
    @arcaderunner2188 3 роки тому +2

    I’ve used similar units and they’re crap. A brush is actually faster as blowing out air doesn’t remove dust very well. Try blowing dust off a dusty bench top, then wipe the area with your hand and you’ll see how much was left behind.
    They sound like a great idea but in reality you won’t use it.

    My only issue with these things is actually getting rid of the dust. The blower is simply blowing the dust off something but eventually the dust will settle again. Same thing with the makeup brush, but less of a stir up. In other words, don’t dust your pieces, lol! Too time consuming!!

    Great video Chris. This looks like a great alternative for dusting. I still believe that the make up brush is the best option. But, let's face it, as we get older and our desire to engage in tedious, time consuming tasks diminishes, this will become the best option. In upcoming years, as our collections grow exponentially (hopefully), dusting will become an endeavor that will require a monumental amount of patience, perseverance, dedication and discipline. Attributes that I for one am not sure I will posses in my 60's, 70's and beyond. My only concern is that there is no way to control the force with which the air comes out. I would also like a second, thinner, more precise nozzle for the crevices and hard to reach areas. Still, I will pick this up and give it a try. Carefully. Thanks again for this review. Can you please make one on "Air Purifiers"? Do they really make a difference? Are they worth the money? Considering the frequent filter changes.
