The Duesenberg brothers were genius engineers but poor businessmen. They only cared about building the cars, not how well they sold or how much profit the company made. Small manufacturer that built high horsepower cars that cost a lot of money meets the Great Depression and the manufacturer lost.

Since 1972, they are rated in SAE which is a fully dressed engine with all accessories, including A/C even if the vehicle it would be going in doesn’t have a/c and a full exhaust system. Both are measured at the flywheel. Plus manufacturers have slight tendency to lie about the horsepower numbers and it can go both ways. Ford lied about the 2000 Mustang Cobra R’s (the terminator mustang) to the point they had to recall them when the buyers found out they were over rated. Ford ended up having to change the intake and retune the ecm so the cars would actually have the horsepower that ford claimed originally. GM was well known to under rate a lot of their higher performance vehicles so that they would never be rated higher then the corvette (with a few minor exceptions like the Buick GNX). The 93 Z28 is a good example of this. The corvette was rated at 300hp in 93. The camaro was rated at 275hp. But dyno tests on the LT1 camaros have shown between 253 (auto)-268hp (manual) at the wheels, which puts crank horsepower at about 315hp. The corvette is about 320hp due to less restrictive exhaust routing and a slightly different intake.
Yes Ford & Chrysler had 425 HP & Chevy had 435 hp . In 1970 the 454 was rated at 450 HP all these motors were underrated & this was just the factory rating.
So in that case...why was the Muria still listed as the most powerful car in these years if Detroit put out more powerful ones? That’s what I’m confused about. Did James mess up or is there some other reason why they weren’t mentioned?.

The nissan is probably tuned with high end parts. The jesko isn’t tuned at all.
@@suave605 it’s a joke beside the jesko is high end too right
Damn I really thought the 70 Chevelle woulda been on here
It should have been...450 hrspwr

@@bluyxx6482 before 73 or so Americans measured their engines in gross horsepower, as in on an engine dyno without accessory belts, transmissions, air filters, or sometimes even flywheels attached. Dyno headers, carbs tuned for peak power, you name it, it was free game back then and there.
Find me a documented source of a stock CAR making that number of NET horsepower and I'll believe it.
I've been waiting on this Doug the Demon ad since the podcast where they grill joe on his appearance lol
i didn’t even skip the ad this time
Glad you use liters rather than ci, so I can understand, I drive a 10L 2door for work not sure of HP but it rolls.

Almost all these cars have more horsepower than my 07 Stang 6 banger. ;(

i know xy had more horsepower in 1971

1969 zl1 Camaro too
Yea in 1990 the most powerful car was the c4 corvette sledgehammer with like 820 hrsps
@@scotthouston9533 yea the chrysler hemi cars from the 60's and 70's had 425 HP and those were underrated for insurance
I'm guessing he left this one off for a reason but the Vector W8 apparently had 625HP and was produced from 1989-1993. I know Vector's reported top speed was never tested but I didn't think the HP stat was exaggerated. Then again I'm probably missing something.
This was awesome, can we have the most expensive car each year from the last 120 years too, and what it'd cost in today's money?!
Sounds like a good idea for the D-list!
