    Hopefuly this will be my Next project. I like the point made... You need at least a 15-minute shower. This, to get All the Corners! Cleanliness is next to Godliness!

    We see showers constructed like this all the time. Unfortunately it will fail starting with the first shower. I would strongly suggest looking at the VIM Level Entry Shower System.

    Why did you bust up the slab and not move the drain? Grout poured onto the mud bed mix? Huh...wtf is that about?

    Hi Shane thanks for the video. My father has ALS and we need to make a ground level shower accessible to him for a shower chair(wheelchair). Currently there is a fiberglass shower with a lip which I will remove. It sits on a concrete slab, which is already titled to the edge of the existing shower. We are trying to avoid relocating the drain. So Im am asking if you could recommend a low profile drain(the height of a standard floor tile) that we could just tile the slab to the drain? Thank you

    All I have to say is OMG I hope this is your first shower.... This is not how you make a shower pan do not copy this wow wow hahahahahah setting tile without any thinset???? " use grout " hehehe do not do this in your own home... I don't want to say any more this is a joke.........................................................

      Joey Bolohan you are correct....you actually use thinset but he said thinset will not work and he is wrong....ive actually used a modified or a full flex thinset and it holds really well....i would never use a grout for adhesive but to each his own....

      I’ve never seen grout used. I have dusted straight Portland cement on a wet, wet bed. You don’t have to wait for the bed to dry. It’s a short cut but it does work.

      Used to be, that is what tile was set in, the same material. Colored grout, we had to add color powder. Wash rag holders were always installed in and with grout. I don't see a problem with it and old school showers were installed in wet mud vertical and horizontal. I remember this because I was the knucklehead that had to mix the mud. I have done many repairs using only grout and have never had a failure. I think these guys know what they are doing.

    I was hoping you could assist me with info on what my options are for installing a curbless shower.
    Currently the 32"x60'" space is occupied with a fiberglass shower/tub insert with a typical (8" from side wall?) drain off to one side. It is in a concrete slab foundation. It we want to go curbless, how would we lower the drain enough to achieve an ADA accessible , roll in type shower? And if possible should we move the drain more towards the center of the 60" span? Thanks for your consideration

    Dude are you serious???? Your floor looks like a hammock with that v slope in the middle. Holy shit I hope your customer don't drown in there. Um putting tile down with dry grout? Jesus Christ man. "Thinset will not work" is that what you said? Funny how it works for me - every time. I could go on man but I'm done . . . No I'm not. . . Where is your shower valve at?

    • @TheOpelkoenjas
      @TheOpelkoenjas 8 років тому +1

      +Jason Spencer Yeah, was thinking the same. That thing is pretty much inaccessible for future installations. Not to mention, IF they are able to reach it somehow without ripping out tiles: how are they going to test if water leaks once the installation is (almost) done? Hope for the best and trust on their "skills" maybe, just like the rest of this build? There's sooo much going wrong, it's baffling. It really is. My jaw litterally dropped. If this dude is a licensed contractor, then I pity the people who hire him/them. And I surely do hope that people have some common sense and look for video's where tiling and placing shower pans went horribly wrong (demos) to see what this dude did wrong. Ooooh so wrong. SMFH

  • @sleeksalmon

    Not hating but besides other problems that I see with this, the thing that stands out for me with a disabled husband is, that this show is just to tight "room wise". even if you wernt disabled there is hardly enough room to turn around in there. Disabled people need more room then most to do what needs to be done. Its just the way it is.....

    Those travertine tiles are tumbled, the holes and crevises on tile are great home for bacteria growth. Not the best choice higiene.

  • @johnmcfarland5147

    This type of floor install has been done for 50 yrs it's called a wet set. The old timers built every shower this way and are still sticking today. The old tar paper liners are rotten but the tile is stuck.
    Saying this I don't care for the 3" cuts in corners. And such a steep pitch of the pan.

    • @paultrapanese1721
      @paultrapanese1721 5 років тому

      john mcfarland I agree John.
      way back in the dark ages circa 1974, we use to screed the mortar and use pure Portland as a bond to the damp cement. Then tap the tiles into place. This was done over a lead pan.
      Not sure about the grout as a bonding agent but at least it has latex. That didn’t come in till late 70’s.
      Those old showers lasted years!

    • @TheOpelkoenjas
      @TheOpelkoenjas 8 років тому

      +ourd0gseven There's actually a waterproof membrane, but the way he installed it is absolutely unacceptable. He's going to have leakage without a single doubt and ruin at least the sub floor, not to mention the walls. For some reason I think this "shower" was already ripped out long time ago due to mold, water leakage and unstable floor tiling (for obvious reasons). ^^

    The materials and techniques shown in your video are NOT best practices recognized by the tile industry for an installation of this type. I refer you and all of your viewers to the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard Specifications for the Installation of Ceramic Tile (ANSI A108). I strongly encourage you to obtain these publications and learn the methods, details and best practices for all types of installations they contain. Tile Fail!

  • @TheOpelkoenjas
    @TheOpelkoenjas 8 років тому

    I foresee many MANY future problems with this shower pan (which should be right about now if not earlier already).
    1) No waterproofing done or proper installation of the water membrane
    2) Wall tiles should sit on top of floor tiles (in showers)
    3) Wrong type of tile. You're giving an open invitation to bacteria that you seriously don't want in your house
    4) No thinset at all used. Didn't even wait for the mortar to dry out before placing the tiles on top of it. Mortar is not thinset!
    5) Sloping a shower pan doesn't mean making it go into a V-shape from the sides to the center of the pan
    Oh boy..... o.O

    Hi Shane, no hot moping, no Sir this will fail and in no way would pass city inspection here in CA. I have never in my 40 years in construction seen anyone do a shower floor this way, you always hot mop or use a waterproof membrane that's approved. Also, the way you'll apply the grout is so unprofessional, you'll don't know or have been through the wrong way.
