    I really appreciate this video, I know it has been out a long time but obviously still very helpful / relevant. My 316 is leaving a strip of grass between two of the blades (it has a 48" deck which I know wasn't an OEM option), and sharpening / balancing the blades helped with this a lot but didn't get rid of it completely. I read that a deck that isn't level can cause this too, so we'll see.

    I was one that requested 300 series deck attachment and leveling procedure from you as I was wanting to put a deck on my Kohler 316 and I have 318's as well I'll be jackin with this season so thank you very much, always look forward to your old school machines videos.

      Very welcome. I think you have a couple other folks had the same idea. The idea had been rolling around with the marbles in my head for a while but I never did anything about it. I figured if a couple folks were looking for a deck leveling video I should think about it. Then I more or less tripped over the 318 deck...

      Well you and a few others on here put up some very informative and helpful videos for novice beginners like myself and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

    Nice video, I have a 322 and the bolt on my adjuster nut was bent as well although yours didn't look too bad so our conditions may not be the same. I replaced it and the new bolt bent again, my John Deere parts guy (who always knows the answer to any John Deere question I've ever asked) told me what to look for. When taking the mower deck off and using other attachments that do not use the lifting levers which the adjuster bracket connects to sometimes the lifting lever flips over. This puts the lever in the wrong position when you put the mower deck back on and actually makes leveling the deck a little more difficult as well. I found my lifting lever in the wrong position so I repositioned it, replaced the bolt again and it has never happened again. The bolt on your deck didn't look too bad so it may not be the same problem but I just thought I would throw in my two cents worth of experience.

      I was going to comment on exactly what you addressed here. A bent bolt on the hanger is impossible to remove . I managed to cut it off so that it protrudes about 1/8 in. I can not picture how a hydraulic lifting lever could FLIP OVER. Would not the one on the other side, have to do the same?
      Mine appears to be the same as in mmrbeef's video on installing the 318 deck. Any help with this would be appreciated!

    Wow! Could not figure out how to raise the front of the deck on my 140. Did not know the front draft arms did this. Just thought they were just an attchment point. Thanks, great video.

    How do you adjust the yokes in front
    of the 48" inch jd deck.
    Thanks

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  2 роки тому

      There are different styles of the 48" decks and how they attach to the tractor. Most adjust through a front yolk. Some are not adjustable and the deck height can only be adjusted through the draft arms.

    I have a John deer 318 do you have a video on how to replace the PTO clutch I think mine needs replacing when I push the switch on the mower wants to die out. Do you also have the deck belt number that attaches to the mule at the front I need to order a new one.

    Thank you explaining the set up for 332 JD. Our tractor was caked with years of grass clippings,trans & motor oil. So i power washed the undercarriage. Now when the tractor is running i hear a high pitch metal sounds that comes & goes by the front pulleys ? Do you think i damage the pulleys with the water? I didn't put on the deck to check operation with pto.

    Recently purchased a 316 with this deck. Tension spring came apart on the outside (whatever it connects to under the outside pulley) i have two other deck that have a little piece of metal that on the back part of deck the spring connects too. I cannot figure out what it connected too... there is a little rust so I assume there was a piece under the pulley but hard to tell. Also, having trouble finding pictures. Can someone show me what the spring connects too?

    Can you operate the mower deck at any height or should it be fully down when using? I have a 1991 JD318. Just wondering if I can use the hydraulic lever to adjust height of lawn cut or will it damage it?

    • @mikeclement5383
      @mikeclement5383 3 роки тому

      I believe there is an adjustment dojigger on the back of the rock arm. So it's up or down and down is the height of the rock arm level.

      Sounds like you need to look at your belt or the tension mechanism. Are you using a Deere belt or off brand?

    How do you figure out deck size for 317 or 318 1981 or 1987

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  4 роки тому

      For those model years the 317 generally came with a 46" deck. The outside to outside is not the measurement for the deck. You need to measure the width of cut on the blades. The 318's came with the same style 46" deck with more gage wheels (generally) or a 50" deck.

    I was thinking on putting an adjuster on both sides of my 317 also to make it easier to lvl also, like the 700 series..and thanks for the video ..

    • @mmrbeef

      I think that is not a bad idea. The 317 hangers are a little different from the 318 hangers.... I think. But from what I remember they do interchange.

    Love your videos but I have a problem I have a 455 with a 60 inch deck and gauge wheels are on the ground. The height adjustment knob turns really hard and seems to do nothing to raise or lower deck I've tried it with deck raised and lowered
    What I'm I missing?

    I love your videos man, keep up the good work. I'm going to dig into replacing the front crankshaft seal on my JD330. I'm going to remove the engine to do this. Do I need to remove the radiator in order to do this?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      I am not terribly familiar with the 330's but if you are just replacing the crankshaft seal I do not think you will need to remove the radiator since it is in the back of the engine and the front is fairly accessible. The hardest think about replacing seals with the engine in the tractors is making sure the seal is level and flush or installed within spec. Most of the answers you will need are in CTM-3 or Component Technical Manual 3 which covers a lot of the diesel engines in these units. Hope this helps!

    why cant you get 2 solid deck hangars

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      You could but..... what happens when things wear? Plus nothing is perfect so there will always be some leveling issue to deal with.

    • @Drew-in-NoDak

      mmrbeef good point thanks

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      And it's not that two solid hangers are not a bad idea but without adjustments you would be buying new ones or dealing with decks slightly out of level.
