  • www.TargetCenteredGolf.com Eric Jones explains why visualization is important to making better golf shots, why there is more to it than simply seeing a shot in advance. By understanding how our brain communicates and how the different functional areas of the brain work together, you understand how ideas are turned into action. This is the critical missing link, and one of the most important ideas to grasp if you want to play your most consistent golf and get into "the Zone."

I played front 9 with focusing on getting my swing in position while I'm swinging and bogeyed all 9 holes. Then second 9 all i did was focus on seeing the shot shape and stepping over the ball with a blank mind and let my body swing. Shot 1 over on back nine with a couple of birdies liping out. You have to visualize with all shots putting included and let your brain go blank so it can do what you want it to do.

This is absolute genius! Eric, what percentage of people golfing actually understand this concept? Honestly.

This is absolutely true..i just started really focusing on visualizing and im a good player but always felt i could be a scratch and something was holding me back..so i was playing one day and was playing really well and i caught myself visualizing and realized i have done it in the past but not consistent so after i caught it and now do it on every shot im literally hitting it exactly where i want ...ball flight and all..and if it doesnt do exactly what i visualized its not too far left or right of my target...i went from a solid 8 handicap to a 1 instantly...crazy!...

Good stuff! I notice my best shots come after I feel the contact and see the flight of the ball before I even hit it.

It's an understatement to say that a strict pre-shot routine is not appreciated or understood by most golfers. Most golfers think of the physical in their pre-shot routine, but the mental is perhaps more important at that time. Deep breathing and visualization are two of the most important parts of getting ready to make a shot. Jack Nicklaus and Jack Grout were the first to put these two together in the pre-shot routine. That alone is ought to be enough to get players to incorporate those in their game! Do them both at once: two deep breaths while visualizing your shot. Every shot! From tee through the green! But make sure your visualization is positive. See your shot ending up in a reasonable place that you can actually hit it.

I competed at high level sports and did this regularly. Somehow it took me until now to realize that I wasn't doing this in golf.

No matter how much I visualize a shot the ball still goes where it wants to go. What do you do to get the ball match up with the visualization.
