I bought a SUPER GAME BOY 2, the green translucid japanese version. Love the background for my Pokjemon Yellow and Kirby Star Stacker carts when playing. Just ordered Pokemon Green and Pokemon Gold... didnt konw there were more than 3 on gameboy, I only had Pokemon Blue the north american version when it came out about 7 months after launch, before everyone learned of it cuz of the kid's show. I was a RPG player who fell in love instantly. As a 10th grader it was problematic, you know teen boys are not keen on fat dudes playing bug games... in the 1990s ! Nowadays everybody knows not to shame people for liking cool pokemon games, but not in the day.
i just ordered it, had never seen that it was a rpg... just hope they did the 3rd one in the same style, as its book counterpart (not the movie) would be an amazing JRPG... or Brit-RPG ?
MAN! Just for causing me to have a flashback to middle school, when my dad, my older brother and his school friends and I would gather around the SNES with a multi tap and play super-multiplayer bomberman at least once per week, this video gets a solid like. There really isn’t much in life that can match the pleasantness of a surprise nostalgia shot. Anyways, great high quality content as always bud!
I know it's not a hidden gem, but I've been playing Dragon Quest Monsters 2 on my phone via emulator for over a year now. Just 10-30 minutes here and there at work or wherever...at x4 speed. 😅
OMG, you mentioned Survival Kids! That was my all time favorite gameboy color game, I remember seeing an ad for it and getting all excited as I loved the concept and the art style. I got stuck a lot in the game though and didn't know about walkthroughs back then so it took a long time for me to finish the game. Good times though.
Survival kids was fun times and finding out what heals you in the game made it worth playing for hours. Limited item space and rotting of items made it a challenge. Hope you're having a great weekend 😊
I feel obliged to mention Wendy: Every Witch Way, as one of the truly great hidden gems of the GBC. It's a platformer with light shmup mechanics, but eventually you get the ability to CHANGE GRAVITY! Oh yeah, and there's some game called Crystalis on GBC...and THREE E.T. games.
That sounds right up my alley! I’ll let you know how I like it. I’m putting stuff on my analogue pocket right now. The Wendy game that is. I’ll try the others you mentioned too.
One of the reasons the Harry Potter RPGs were so good is that they were developed without the movie being out or working with the movie studios, so they tend to be closer to the source material than many of the console iterations. Prisoner of Azkaban on the GBA follows the same formula is decent as well. Only philosopher’s stone suffers from weird textures that don’t really fit into Hogwarts or the wizarding world in general.
It’s not necessarily a hidden gem IMO but the dragon warrior monster games for the gbc are some of the best monster catching/breeding games I’ve ever played to date. I put a lot of effort into playing a translation of the remake of Tara/Cobi’s journey and they were such a treat.
Ya’know what? I had a hunch that given what you play, I thought this video may answer a question I’ve had for over twenty years, and you did, the video did. So back when I was 13, I bought a copy of Revelations the demon slayer from a pawnshop I would work for one day. Pawnshop is gone, I beat that game not long after buying it. I wanted to see if the cart was how I remember it looking, black box, the Atlus logo, and the purple colored sticker on the cart. I’ve been searching for the game for about seventeen years now, not that I wanted to rebuy it, given that I paid less than ten bucks, and now it goes for well over one hundred. I got a purple Gameboy advanced for Christmas with no games, but this was literally the first game I was able to buy for my old GBA, followed by DQmonsters 2: Tara’s adventure, but I’m getting off point. For some reason I thought there was a pyramid on the game cover, but it has been over twenty years, and the game shown looks just like the game I beat, and was looking for. Thank you for helping to end my pointless quest.
The Game Boy Color is such a little gem if a system. I'm honestly impressed by Azure Dreams. From what I can see, the devs really made a faithful 8-bit version of a PSone RPG, that's just rad!
I really wish they could have made a turn-based RPG based on every Harry Potter book instead of just the first three. They got progressively better as they went along. The first one was fine but suffered from having you only play as one character, something a lot of true-to-the-anime adaptation games would often do, force you to play as the main character then let you play as other characters in the sequel. The second one was already better for giving you allies. Then the third on the GBA was great. And then they just stopped, kinda like how we might never get a third Dragon Ball Origins. On a side note, I've said it before and I'll say it again, one highly underrated gem on the GBC is Metal Walker. That game needs more love.
One of my favorite things about magi nation was trying to find the hyrens and the orgmagon. It felt kinda short, and was definitely just an attempt to sell merch (you got a card with the game!!) but i like that it has a really hidden sidequest or explore hard to find areas to attain the most powerful monsters. I had the Ormagon and Orathan Flyer cards when I was a kid, good luck finding them without a guide! Lol
Warlocked is such an awesome game! Here's hoping we see it on Switch if the GB/GBC/GBA rumors for NSO come true, it really deserves a 2nd chance to shine ( it never came to 3DS virtual console )
And yet still no World of War-Locked. I wonder if they'll ever release a Harry Potter game that covers all 7 books? The games have had their ups and downs, such the game of Deathly Hallows being acclaimed for a more robust combat system.
I was slightly too young to have grown up with the gbc. I remember some of my friends played some GBC games that they borrowed from their older siblings on their GBA.
Loved bomberman quest! Never could get any of those cool armored bomberman chars on the EU cover though, think needed link cable. Great vid this is just what I needed!
Just when you've thought you heard them all the GBC games from this channel, There's at least two or three new ones that will pop up each time. Especially the fishing and Harry Potter ones that actually peaked my interest.
Wait, wtf. I had no idea Revelations: The Demon Slayer was a Megami Tensei game. I never played it, but was oddly drawn to it as an 11/12 year old reading Nintendo Power.
almost got the Super Famicom first Shin Megami Tensei this spring.... only missing that and Star Ocean to have the full "gems" JRPG catalog from the super famicom. Try me ! Ask me if i got it :P I'll be fair and honest no bs, if i dont have the JRPG on SFC yo utell me about I'll make sure to learn about it !
Harry potter 2 on the gbc was indeed surprisingly accurate to the book, but without the speed up of an emulator it can be a slog. the equipment system was pretty mediocre and the card combos, while miles better than in the first game, still kinda sucked. I'd take the pc version over the gbc one every time. I'm on a quest to play every single harry potter game and I'm currently one hp1 for ps2. that one is heavily inspired by zelda and quite fun honestly.
Yeah, I’d only give Myst to a kid if I wanted to break their spirit and give up videogames. Fortunately I was the cool uncle who got all his nieces and nephews hooked on videogames, much to the distress of their parents! Heh heh heh. (Btw I loved Myst!)
The great assault on myst and riven felt completely unjust and out of left field. Maybe the most painful words to ring in my ears. On the other hand...as someone who put far too many hours into Riven (and still do), I get it lol 😆

I remember for a month I traded my copy of Pokemon Blue for Magi Nation because I liked it how the label looked. Well when it came to return the game, I really didn't want to, I loved Magi Nation.
Boring Myst and Riven ! Right thats it I'm unsubscribing LOL. They aren't that bad when you know what the hell to do. Great video as always David. Going to save this video to my must-play list. Thanks for the recommendations.

Huge Bomberman fan myself and have played through Quest the rage quitting and swearing done was almost endless trying to defeat the final boss after you leave the planet
If you haven't played the ps1 version of this game, you should. It's 10x better than the gbc version. The gbc version was awkwardly easy and presented no challenges whatsoever. There's also a mini dating game in te ps1 version, you can build new buildings and choose where to put each building so your town will be unique to most everyone else. EDIT: And by "this game" i meant Azure Dreams.
