  • He has to be the best singer in the world right now?! He must be! Who is better? Today I'm looking at at Dimash Qudaibergen, a singer I've mentioned fleetingly in my podcast with Elizabeth Zharoff before. I was blown away when I saw a video of him performing this song, and I want to share it with you now.

Holy Sh*t, one of the UA-camrs I watch regularly is cheking out Dimash!
When I bought the Permission to Land CD back in 2003 never did I imagine I would later watch Justin Hawkins talk about the man I now consider to the best vocalist alive and an artist I have travelled to other continents to watch/hear live.
Pretty sure your comment section is filled with comments about Dimash's versatility. Dimash loves all kinds of music and wants to do it all,so he does. Also, during a 3-4h concert he can't only sing the heavy and very voice demanding songs - he needs some lighter stuff in between (and so do the audience!). He truly utilizes his voice to the max in many songs, songs like The Story Of One Sky, Know, Ave Maria, Love Of Tired Swans, Stranger, Battle Of Memories are less pop, he also does some folk/folk-rock, he even sang the Go Go Power Rangers tune for a chinese OST" His voice truly can do it all and he loves to explore and cross between genres.
    Thank you for your reaction!

he doesn't just sing pop. he has several videos where he sings rock, and pure opera. there are some where he duets with world-renowned opera singers. he even sang with andrea bocelli. Dimash sings every genre he wants. the vocal ability he has, allows him to sing all the genres he wants.

@@MetalmcBiff You probably just haven't listened to the more palatable rap tracks out there yet. Hip Hop represents a wide array of styles, ranging from a technical display of flows and rhythms..-
      ua-cam.com/video/jF27U4gHAGk/v-deo.html
..to something mellower, more vibe-y and sentimental like this tribute to a fictional setting in a commercially successful video game in history.
      ua-cam.com/video/F1Vx-9TUyzA/v-deo.html
Furthermore, the lack of traditional melodic or harmonic outline in rapping is precisely a unique challenge in itself because rapping demands its performer to develop a distinct style and techniques, as well as the ability to stay in tune with the music. This is because rapping still emphasizes elements such as rhythms, groove a.k.a flow, intonation, articulation and tone.
I presume your experience about rapping may be limited to what's played on the radio, all those mainstream stuff. Because if you ever try to explore deeper and outside the mainstream realm, you'll find more underappreciated stuff like this.
      ua-cam.com/video/TwLYHljPlUg/v-deo.html
You hear that clearly there, a rapper who's actually rapping in odd time signatures over a modern jazz/fusion composition. More proof that hip hop/rap will always have its place in music.

He is a Godsend, and it's time for everyone, especially the United States, to realize that. But he never cease to explore how versatile human voice could do, by crossing over different types of genres from folks, rocks, rap to jazz, not only pop, even the instrumental sound as well.. besides the octave range... You will see the creative masterpiece on one of his own composition The Story of One Sky...not to mention his other songs... Stranger and Ikanaide are so well worth listening..

Been following Dimash since 2017 and from what I've gathered, he doesn't confine himself in a specific genre although many of his famous songs might sound more pop-ish. I'm especially impressed whenever he puts out songs of traditional sounds, folk genre. Most young singers these days don't do that. I'm glad he's not boxed into any spesific genre. It creates a surprise element whenever he announce a new song coming up.
Dimash's hands/fingers is one of the most favourite topic of Dimash aside from his face among his fans. They say his hands always look like he's playing invisible instruments or sometimes like he is counting fingers or waging his pointer finger. You'd realise in some performances the cameraman focuses some few seconds just on his hands as if on purpose. As if they probably know what the fans are very intrigued about.

He was also offered a position in a prestigious opera company in his country but turned it down to pursue contemporary music. He dabbles in a little of everything. 1. If you really want to know Dimash, who he is, what he is capable of, what he thinks, go watch "The Story of One Sky". It is a Requiem he composed himself for 3 years. The plot of the Music Video was written by him. He sings and he acts in this video too. The key to understand the plot is "Man is the caravan, life is the path", a Kazakh proverb. The song is in English. It is a 13 minutes video. There you can see that Dimash has not this incredible voice, he is a human with values and he has no fear to tell the world what he thinks, what matters for him. 2. Dimash was invited to be a tenor in the main opera in Kazakstan but he wants to follow his own path singing what he calls a neoclassic genre that mix opera and different pop "genres". 3. Dimash always "paints" his notes with his hands. Hug from Brazil! The Story of One Sky MV ua-cam.com/video/1Psjws97FoA/v-deo.html

This is just a signature song for him. Stranger is an original written specifically for him and has more range and genre bending. He also released 2 new original songs in the past year that are not even remotely pop - The Story of One Sky is incredible and is all over the map vocally with some throat singing, metal screams, traditional “yodels”, etc. and El Amor En Ti is a combination of classical and pop jazz where he becomes his own quartet. You can see both those songs back to back and sung live from his Stranger concert that is on his channel in part 3 (meaning he had already been singing for about 3 hours beforehand). He composed both of them himself. Give those a listen and you will change your tune. 😉

(You may remember the news of a cable car disaster in China a couple of decades ago). "Daybreak" is about the only survivor (a toddler.. handed up before the cable car crashed to the ground). The woman who wrote the song (Han Hong) later adopted the little boy. Both Dimash's version, and Han Hong's version are worth seeing. Justin definitely worth checking out the Chinese show "Singer". Thanks so much for bringing Dimash to your channel....loved your guitar accents. Dimash isn't "used" for pop music--he is a fiercely independent artist and sings whatever he wants, occasionally dipping into pop. He's a very serious and highly trained vocalist who has spread Kazakh culture to the world, but expresses his art in many languages. Please react to Samaltau (in Kazakh) and Ikanade (in Japanese)both from the Tokyo Jazz Festival, Passione (in Italian) from New Wave in Russia The Story of One Sky(English) short film, Daybreak (Mandarin) and El Amor En Ti(Spanish) from his Almaty, KZ concert for a more balanced view of what he likes to create and/or sing! BTW I doublt if he played Baby Jesus on stage as his culture is Muslim. Cheers!

Pop songs can be interesting too. There is an opinion that such songs are not worth much, but it all depends on how they are composed. Listening to the opinions of experts, I learned that Dimash's lighter songs are also gems, because they have an interesting, sometimes very difficult structure. I don't know the musical vocabulary, butznawcy wyłapują notes, rhythm and other trivia that are difficult, evidence of excellent creative technique. Thank you. Yes, absolutely Dimash is the best singer/vocalist in the world. The Singer show in China was with all Chinese seasoned singers, Dimash was a wild card from Kazakhstan and the youngest singer. Dimash's S.O.S. was the 1st performance in 2017. That is when he became world wide famous and gained his massive fan group called 'Dears'. Yes he does have a 7+ octave range. He trains every day for no less than 3 hours a day and has since childhood. He IS music. He sings in multiple genres and has a large catalog. His music videos are of the highest quality and stunning. S.O.S. is just the tiny tip of the iceberg that is Dimash. You will get goosebumps and tears with each performance no matter what genre or singing style. He calls his neoclassical. Thank you for your analysis, it was very enjoyable and informative. You clearly know your music. :) But I disagree with you about Dimash limiting himself to 'poppy' songs! What have you been listening to? What about 'Love of Tired Swans', 'Endless Dimensions', 'Marigolds', 'Love is but a Dream', 'Sinful Passion', 'Passione', 'Ogni Pietra', and so much more??? This performance was for his online concert done during the pandemic.
Ive been alive long enough to have lived through the greatest artists in recent history and have never heard anything like him before.
Ive heard many metal reactors say that they'd love for Devin Townsend to write songs for him and I have to say i agree.
Dimash is currently living in LA and has been busy composing and recording the soundtrack for the latest Jackie Chan movie as well as finishing a song he started prepandemic with Walter Afanasieff who wrote the Titanic theme tune.
I understand your comments about the pop side but Dimash is incredibly savvy when it comes to the music business and is fully aware that his more operatic songs don't appeal to the masses. In order to be a commercial success too he has to dumb it down for the average listener.
I mean, look how many unpleasant comments you already have in here about him over singing? He's fully aware of what a lot of people think about him.

BTW, I don't consider practicing restraint and curtailing the vocal gymnastics to be "dumbing it down" in every instance...even some of us poor, unrefined, average listeners have extensive musical training and understand that less can oftentimes be more when the song demands a simpler approach...there are plenty of examples of performers doing vocal cartwheels in commercially successful songs...people would be much more supportive of Dimash overall if his fanbase wasn't so toxic...the tiniest critique or suggestion that he isn't the greatest vocalist ever born generally results in a massive assault from obsessed "Dears" that, for some reason, fail to recognize that his vocal stylings may not be everyone's cup of tea...it doesn't mean we have an inadequate or undeveloped, unrefined ear...it means we just don't love him like you do...and I'm sorry, but that's allowed...

    • @debbiemorgan859
      @debbiemorgan859 9 місяців тому +14

@@johnjohn37371 ok, maybe I was a bit lazy in using the term "dumb it down" but you have to admit that most pop these days, whether it's Dimash or anyone else is almost formulaic. It's easy listening to appeal to the masses. I'm not knocking it, it will always have it's place.
If I had to listen to only Dimash's vocal acrobatic songs then I probably wouldn't listen to him every day but the fact that he has such a wide variety of music and that you never know what to expect from him next is what excites me the most. My mother used to listen to Status Quo and I was so bored as they used to be the same in every single song.
As for the toxic fanbase, I agree that there are some toxic fans, I'm seeing them here in this comment section but you will find toxic fans in every fanbase. In my opinion the BTS and Diana Ankudinova fanbase are far more toxic than Dimash's. I'll only defend Dimash if I see absolutely stupid comments made or completely uneducated ones and then I try to do it respectfully but as we all know what's written down doesn't always come over as we're thinking it.

Arguably one of his best performances... But you've only scratched the surface of his abilities
    Cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹👌🏾

He is technically a very good singer. He sounds like a different voice as he is continually switching between a bel canto (opera) style and pop style of singing (different placement in the face/head) as well as switching between chest and head voice in both styles. Very interesting. Baby/toddler Jesus....hehehehehe. This song is 100% in a lyric soprano range (which is still unusual for a man to sing).

Dimash was offered a position with the opera house in Astana, I think it was that city. Anyway, it was in Kazakhstan. He declined because he wanted to cut his own musical path and create his own style of music. With a talent such as his, he should be given the opportunity, without criticism, to follow the beat of his own drum. Even these days, he trains vocally for 3-5 hrs, a day every day. He has dedicated his life since the age of five doing what he felt was the only thing in life he has ever wanted to do. I for one, am so glad to be able to appreciate his hard work and God-given talent.

omg I've been waiting for this for months... love you Justin for checking out Dimash. The same thing happens to me, I wish he didn't pop so much, but he loves it.
