In episode 3 of the season Rick and Michonne talked about having a future, implying they were planning to have a kid. And now here he is, Rick Grimes Jr, also called RJ.
Brings extra meaning to the idea that Rick "found" his family in the end.

This was so weird.... I was so shook when I saw the subs... like... is this meant to be a Walker-perspective or are we really meant to interpret this as at least some walkers being able to talk? If there's some kind of spoilers from the comic, I would appreciate it that you avoid telling me it... but I'm just lost at how to take that scene.

I love how Eric knows EXACTLY whats going on with the Walkers and the Whisperers, just hinting at it without giving anything away to Shane and saying "Whispering" and "Whispers". Eric was definitely 4th wall breaking with the nod to us with those VEERRRRRYYY Subtle signs.
All comic fans fucked it for us show watchers years ago. Guess its our fault for reading comments.
The zombies absolutely go after animals. They have killed horses, Shiva, rats, Tabitha the goat, hogs at the prison etc.
They do although I'd be willing to bet the animal population is still thriving. Zombies only advantage is numbers. I would bet a lot of animals would have the necessary speed to get away from walkers as long as they don't get cornered. Rick's horse certainly did a good job staying ahead of the herd.

The first post-Rick Grimes episode was pretty great. Carol burning those saviors to death and the Negan/Judith interaction were my two favorite parts.

Kang is a crappy writer, but shaping up to be the best showrunner. I never cared for Darabont like most do. Gimple was a crappy showrunner but decent writer.
It's kind of early to say, but I think this will be the best. The only flaw that really bothered me was the slow start to the season. That premiere was slow as shit and didn't need to be. Season 1 is kind of overrated. The pilot is perfect, but season 1 meanders and gives us the pointless Vatos story and the CDC episode that felt like a LOST homage. 2 meanders at the farm. 3 has the characters just all over the place, making dumb decisions with lots of filler. 4 has a whole first half of filler and has Maggie not giving a shit about her sister. This was also where Gimple took over and didn't have the writers blending the stories, and instead focused on one small group at a time. I can go on. This season so far has none of that. The flaws are extremely insignificant aside from the premiere.

I was so excited to see Rick & Michonne had a kid! Anyway, fun fact: The kid who plays current Henry, the kid who played younger Henry and the girl who played Carol's daughter Sophia are siblings! Anyway, this episode was good and I'm very slowly adjusting to a Walking Dead without Rick. However, I can't wait for the Walking Dead movies to reunite him with Michonne & Judith and have him meet his son RJ!

Was waiting to see your reaction after I saw this episode! I can't believe I would ever say this, but The Walking Dead has such a great new tone and vibe without Rick Grimes because it gives us the opportunity for new / old characters to get more screen time and development like Judith being the little ass kicker she was born to be, Eugene killing zombies like a badass, Father Gabriel and Rosita getting it on, Aaron's badass metal arm, bringing in ASL (American Sign Language), Negan bonding with Judith, and the surprise of Michonne having Rick's son was such amazing development and such a great new tone for The Walking Dead and I can say that I'm 100% back in love with TWD and this is just the beginning especially when you're introducing "Evolved Walkers" 😉 if you read the comics.

@@benporter3392 Even though I like the episode without Rick, I can understand and support what you are saying. Rick Grimes was the character who started this show so to see him have to go is sad and disappointing but we have to accept that Andrew Lincoln wanted to spend more time with his family and accept that the show is way different from the original comic source material so they are giving us a new take on the TWD story but it is understandable that people don't like the new tone but I honestly love it and this is coming from someone who hated the recent seasons.

This show is built on life cycles. They will for sure revive the scene when Rick finds his family. Its a reoccurring theme. I do specifically mean, Rick finding his family. It would be fresh if they find him though.

My understanding is that Lauren Cohan is gonna be a part-time/special appearance actor. So, Maggie is still presumably the leader of Hilltop, we just won’t really see her on screen most of the time. I think we’ll mostly just hear characters refer to her and Jesus will be the visual leadership role for that community, doing Maggie’s bidding.
I think she went off with Georgie to spread knowledge to other places. I believe that's the explanation they use.
Judith is great.
Already love her character.
Hopefully she stays cute yet have that little edge to her.

Angela Kang gave this show hope again and it's been an amazing S9! It's still sad to know that Rick is no longer part of the show but it also gives many characters, old and new, room to shine in their storylines. And as always, you guys have the best reactions!

Michonne vaguely mentions an incident, from that it seems to me it was some sort of upheaval... most likely involving the Saviors. We haven't been to Hilltop yet... maybe, the answers are there.
Yeah honestly this is my favorite season. Writing is so good. Acting has always been good, but for me i stopped liking it so much since s4. This season has me hyped for each new episode! love it!

In the comics, it was only 2 major ones IIRC. The show may not do as many... or they may do more. Either way, there will definitely be more side characters. I feel like that will be the finale, with how the story is shaping up.

Just saying, if you read the comics and never watched the show and this was your first episode, you would think Aaron is Rick, the way he cares for Judith, the missing arm, his whole look really. Aaron is a comic accurate Rick right now.
I dont think they have gasoline. I thought gas was oderless so they put something in it so you smell it and can run away before it explodes. But I think they ran out of gasoline (car gas) and use corn to make that fuel to run a farm tractor (which oceanside stole). Im no expert.
