"What if someone gets hurt?"
Are we going to make it illegal to go out on boats? People get hurt out there and It's "hard to get emergency service out there" too!

We used to go there before it was developed. Marine Patrol had no problem getting there. The Coast Guard can get there fast. Hillsborough County just wants to steal it.

Well, you can do what you want on your own property, that's fine. When you invite the public out to your property for profit, that's where pesky rules come into play.

Helicopters don’t need to completely land to help someone. They do it all the time in the ocean
From the aerial view in the thumbnail, there appears to be plenty of room to land a helicopter. It sounds like a typical City Council Shakedown to me. 🙀

I have never been there but looks like a great place to visit there is no difference between a party boat out at sea that needs medical assistance this island is easier to dock or beach at. The city and state have plenty of resources when it comes to helicopters and medical boats to reach this island sorry the officials don’t have a leg to stand on

first off, it's private property and the owners have the liability, not the city
second, by the city's logic they should also have to shut down bars and all places where people congregate in tampa because "someone will get hurt"

I went to the school in St Pete Coast Guard to learn how to navigate waters around Florida, yet someone thought it was a good ideal to allow a bar to be put on beercan Island, and us long time local boaters know you can't get to the island but by boat and what i learned from the Coast Guard you don't get drunk and then get in a boat. Ever!
Seems much ado about nothing as those entering could be forced to sign a waiver as it is private property.
The authorities need to stop harassing them.
If somebody get hurts they can ride a boat to the main land which is only a few miles away or they can be air-lifted . Politicians are the dumbest people in town .

The first time I stepped on beercan was 1964 and always thought that us tax payers took care of the island, especially since it was we boaters that kept it clean and carried other trash back to the mainland, so when I heard a set of brothers bought the island for $64,000 I was shocked. To think no one knew it was for sale, otherwise us boaters would of stepped up bought the island and made it a free sanctuary for future generations to enjoy like we did for decades. However once the brothers realize that the island goes under water during severe storm ,they decided to try and sell it (are you ready) for $14 million dollars. When I went to the Coast guard class n St Pete to learnhow to captain a boat the first thing they teach you is you don't drink and drive ever on the water ,yet these brothers thought it a good ideal to put a bar on the island and as we all know you only get to the island by boat, so if you get blasted you still have to get in your boat and drive home to your dock. So yes as a lifelong boater in Tampa im pissed and me along with hundreds of other boaters, we'd like to know who sold the island to begin with since there was no public notice the island was up for sale.
If you serve alcoholic beverages, you're going to need paramedics and police to deal with the inevitable consequences. The commissioners aren't reckless partygoers, they have to deal with reality.

Why would anyone blame the BOCC if they got hurt? Does that mean egmont key is too dangerous to visit. There are hundreds of visitors out there on the west side every weekend, right next to the bird sanctuary. Government overstep for sure. Stop treading on us. 🐍
When someone gets hurt, the community always expect the government to rescue them. When they don't, there's always public outcry. There are those who claim "my life, my choice." No, because it's going to be your loved ones who will have to come rescue you. If they can't, they'll pressure the government for help. It makes no sense for the government for the take on additional liability.

Too funny! That county commissioner clown worried about people getting hurt and being hard to reach...all while THEY approve multi -family dwellings and apartments on roadways too congested to get an ambulance/fire/police vehicle down anyway. Yup, smells like a money grab to me!
