    One of the most underrated RWs out there. It's also possibly the best casual chukka.

    Had a pair since 2015, and agree about the footbed - mine took well over a year before taking shape. On a second resole and they are now my most worn redwing. Good review.

    I have been wearing mine for about 2 years. The first two weeks was a break in period but after the break in, they are extremely comfortable.

    Really enjoy your detailed videos. I think these are one of the most underrated Red Wings, they are brilliant. I stumbled across them by accident as a shop i had ordered sneakers in a closing down sale sent me these by mistake. €40 for 3139's! They were a uk9, normally i'm a uk8 in RW, I have 1907s so am familiar with the sizing. I found these fit narrower than the 1907. I use a decent leather insole and they fit fine now, probably my most comfortable boots and I love the copper worksmith leather. I Prefer the Atlas Tred sole than the christy, more comfortable and less wear. Nice they are a bit dressier than the normal RW too. Iron rangers next possibly although I wish they would bring back the sawmill!! Keep the videos coming, thank you!

    Red wing also makes a conditioner that won’t darken leather. Look up Leather Cream neatsfoot oil blend. I’ve used it on all kinds of leather with good results

    I’ve got a pair of their Shop Mocs which I very much enjoy. They’ve been a challenge to break in, takes a bit of time and effort for sure. I’ve never given Chukkas much thought. My experience with the Shop Mocs makes these look rather attractive. I’d need to try them on first and get a decent feel of them. The 23 last offers me good toe room, haven’t had any issues in that regard, these do look to be enough of a departure that I’m not willing to gamble.

    Red Wing has a conditioner called 'Leather Cream' which is made of Neatsfoot oil and that stuff conditions good and doesn't darken the leather. I use it on all of my boots like my Moc Toes with Oro Legacy leather, my Oxblood Iron Rangers and even my boots that have natural tan leather and none of those have ever darkened with Red Wing Leather Cream. You should give it a shot, just make sure not to pick up the 'Boot Cream' by accident, that stuff will definitely darken your leather.

  • @RubbelisPro
    @RubbelisPro 2 роки тому +1

    Bick 4 is all I use on oil tanned leather unless I'm intentionally trying to darken the leather with pine pitch or something similar. Bick 4 won't darken leather or take away any of the character of the leather itself. But it will clean/polish it. If anything it'll lighten over time, I have a pair of 10875s in the oro-riginal leather from highschool that I've treated exclusively with bick 4 and a lot of the darker tones that came from that leather no longer exist and it's more of a pale orange color with hints of yellow where I've scuffed it at work. Only thing is it's more of a glue-like substance so you'll want to use a brush when applying.

    Nice video sir. I think you may have sold me on the work chukka. I kind of like the sleeker look of the weekender chukka. The work chukka might be the way to go. I look forward to another update about these the more they age. Later.

    I have these in briar oil slick and love them. My only issue is that the sides of the white soles for me get dirty after a wear or two. I can clean with soapy water and a scrubby pad but… When it’s time for resold I’ll go with danite and leather over the wedge. Love them though.

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  2 роки тому

      Agree, they do get dirty easily but they also look great, I keep meaning to go over mine... I have been considering either the red wing roughout eraser bar... or just some fine sand paper!

  • @chrisblanc663
    @chrisblanc663 Рік тому

    I’ve been looking at the Clark desert boots. Want one of those, but hate the idea that once the outsoles are done, so are the boots. So these are my second choice, but I kinda feel like the point of desert boots are lost with how different these are from desert boots. I’ll probably end up not getting any new boots and just appreciate the ones I have…

    I've had a pair of these for about 4 years, but they have been in the cupboard for about 3 of them as they are excruciatingly uncomfortable. They were fine to start with, but a tiny heel slip in the left boot occurred after a couple of weeks, and this became more pronounced and unbearable as time went on and I can't even wear them to the end of the street. I've tried all the tricks - thick socks, heel pads, different lacing, but to no avail. I also find the insole to be like walking on concrete. Other reviewers say something similar. I got a pair of Loakes and it was like chalk and cheese. It's a real pity as they weren't cheap and I like the look of them, but I think the next stop might be the charity shop.

    Hello Devon Reviewer, have you tried Red Wing's Leather Cream ? It does not darken leather and would surely shorten the break-in. I know you believe the leather to be oily from the factory. I am certain it is quite capable of absorbing some Leather Cream and becoming a lot more supple.

    • @coff33guy34
      @coff33guy34 7 днів тому +1

      I would second this advice. I've used their leather cream on my briar slick version of this chukka and it didn't darken them. That said, briar slick is darker than Oro legacy but it does say on the side of the jar that it shouldn't darken any leather

    • @stevenroche9874

      You should condition the leather insole periodically to prevent cracking.

    Been looking at the Red Wing Blacksmiths for awhile. I know they're GYW, but will any place resole them because those vibram soles don't seem to be so widespread. Not to mention I have a wider foot and would need to make sure it fits before dropping £300 on shoes.

    • @blueband8114

      Yes, you can get them re soled. I used the place advised on their website, to get my 875's done.

    • @pianofry1138
      @pianofry1138 2 роки тому +1

      I'm not 100 percent certain that they'll have that style of outsole at any given cobbler but they will have some sort of wedge sole that would work with the boot. Also outsoles are cut to size so unless you're like 8e you should be fine.
