Planning your child's birthday party? You don't have to spend a fortune on a cake to make it memorable. In this video, part 4 of a 6-part series, you'll learn how to make a fondant ribbon and bow for a princess doll cake.
I'm going to make her a nice little bow and it's going to hang down in the back. I'm going to use the same shade of pink, going to reknead my fondant. Now what you want to do to get your bow and your ribbon is you want to try and roll the fondant almost like into a sausage so this way you have a longer roll of your fondant. So we're going to roll it so we get a nice longer piece and this one strip should give you enough to make a nice little bow for her dress as well as the ribbons. I'm going to use my 6 pizza cutter and you can make this as wide as you want or as small as you want. I'm going to make it about that long and you want to push into it and try to hold it in place so it has the same length all the way through. Take away the excess and you're left with one nice long strip. So what you want to do, you want to make a nice little band that's going to go right around here so what we're going to do is, just going to cut a piece that's long enough. It's going to go around her waist and it'll hang down just a little. Again you want to add a little water and that's going to stick it on, so you want to take this and if you want to just give it a little scrunchy in the middle, you can do that as well, and you can give her a nice little waistband. Then what you want to do is just take your knife and just cut away the excess that's in the back and then you just squeeze that towards the back. You can also use this tool to just help straighten this up just a little bit and then we'll use this remaining to make her a bow and the ribbon for the back. So what you want to do, you can make the bow or ribbon as long as you want it. I don't want to make it too big for the back so I'm just going to cut a little piece off. What you want to do is just give it a little extra roll, just to thin it out a little more and what you're going to do is you're going to fan in the edges. That gives it a little crease and then what you do is you fold it in, into the center, and you're going to make a little bow and then you can use one of the little excess pieces. I'm going to stretch that out just a little bit. We only need a shorter piece so we can cut that and that's going to go right here in the middle for her bow and that we're going to stick on to the back of her dress, and with the remaining strap, you're just going to make some ribbon that's going to hang down the back of her dress and then you can cut this in half. Again what you would do is just use some water and you'll stick one here, put some water on this side and you'll stick the other one here, and then you'll put some water on the backside of your bow, just a little bit and then you're going to stick that. Give it a little squeeze then, and there you have the back of her dress. So now we have completed the bottom portion of our dress. We've given her a top. We've made her a nice little bow and given her some ribbon in the back and now we can go ahead and complete her by adding maybe some flowers or some decorations to her dress."
