I wanted to comment on the mystery box situation that happened. I have been doing events for years and every one brings with it a learning experience. At Comic-Con last year, a woman came up to my table with her kid. They were looking at stickers (priced at $4 with a clear sign). Her kids showed her a sticker he liked, she said “you like that one? Ok.” She looked at me, smiled, and they walked off. With my sticker. Without paying. Other vendors saw it and said I definitely should have addressed it, especially since she knew what she was doing. I don’t fault the child. I was stunned. Totally frozen. Now I know exactly what I would say and how to address it moving forward. Don’t be hard on yourself about it. That’s a very normal response for a situation we are not used to handling. Also, just found your channel and love it! ❤
I think maybe having a couple extra of the plushies like the ones in the mystery boxes might be good. Just keep the extras hidden under your table and only get a plushie out if absolutely necessary. Then you can avoid a customer destroying your adorable backpack boxes.
If you didnt put the sign out with what could be in the box they wouldn't know what they were missing. A mystery box is a game of chance. You get what you pick.
Next time put color dot stickers on the bottom of the boxes so you can tell what is in each one. That way if this happens again instead of having to open them all you can just look at the sticker and hand them the one they want.
The parent should have handled the situation better and not put you in that position where you felt awkward. You did a lovely thing by opening the boxes xx
I started doing mystery boxes from your suggestion thank you by the way. I have definitely found it’s better not to let them know what their options are. They will get their heart set on one and be disappointed when they don’t get it if they see their options. No sign is better or one just saying mystery box and the price. If they ask I just say it’s a tiny plushie. It’s a surprise. It could be anything and they still buy it. I also put stickers and candy in mine 😊
That is very interesting. Thank you for sharing the input and the candy is a great idea to add in as well! I will have to try removing the key and see how that goes for me! Thanks! 😊
Definitely make someone keep/pay for something they ripped. I saw another vendor nix the sign for the mystery boxes, maybe just do a silhouette of the shape/size to give them idea but no real images? Also the cherries as a trinket tray are a bit strange imo, but if you made them full balls they'd be super cute rear view mirror hangers!
I just followed you because I don't tend to make/sell amigurumi (they take so much time to make unless you use chunky yarn). So it's nice to see other things that people do markets for.
I would keep one or two extra of each item that is in the mystery boxes behind the counter so to speak. That way if you hear someone is hoping for a specific plushie you can (based on age and chances of them ruining your boxes) just offer to sell them the one they want at the same price.
Hi I enjoyed your vblog . I have a suggestion for your mystery boxes and the situation you had with the kiddo. I would take the pictures away and use words like small plushie included. Children need to be excited about the mystery of what's in the box instead of expecting a specific plushie. And once they see the possibilities they focus on the one they want. I see it all the time with the store bought eggs. If you want the pictues you could do a picture where the pictures overlay each other and only the top one is completely visible. This way the get an idea but not all if them show. Then there shouldn't be too much disappointment.
Ohh yes! Thank you for that suggestion, because I really dont feel comfortable not providing the sign but I love the idea of the overlay! I think I will try to reformat my sign to be like that! Thank you so much, that was really helpful! 🥰
So sorry that you had the experience happen with your mystery boxes glad you shared that with us because I have bought some of the boxes I love a good mystery item so what's planning to figure out a way to set them up in my booth.
Oh im glad you got some! I too love a good mystery box! Im going to keep it up and keep doing them 100%! I think now that it happened Im way less anxious because worst comes the worst, its fixable! But please let me know how yours go! I will say every other reaction to them was overwhelming positive so I still think they are a huge success and definitely recommend but also recommend making a key for possibilities !🥰

idk if this would work w ur plushies but i've seen ppl do this w pins and charms. instead of a mystery box ppl dispense plastic capsules from a capsule machine or have the customer blindly pick one from a basket and they have to open them on the spot and return the capsules to the seller. often times i've seen ppl offer respins for a dollar or two dollars and they can keep spinning until they get what they want (but whatever item they got before respins they cant keep). it would make sense if the customer really wants a specific item you eventually offer it for the price u were selling that item for and charge the difference
Maybe on your mystery box have them color coded so you know what is each box so that if that happens in the future you can cut it off at the pss! Love your videos, thanks for sharing 💕
love what you said about bringing the different items to display your skill level. I do this with my caridgans, and its a great way to start conversations.
hi just found your videos this evening and hey are great. just an idea though the trinket dishes i feel if you find a way to make them at least two rounds deeper to make it so it holds more so what u place on it and if poss u can use spray on starch to the whole thing or just the sides and underneath . they use the spray starch on the snowflakes for xmas trees. this may make them more sellable if they have bi better sides and the starch will make the whole thing bit more rigid to hold the sides up.
Oh heck no! They got a mystery box, they don’t get to go through all the other boxes. You say, I’m sorry that’s not how the mystery boxes work. AND all sales are final!
You are so talented, thank you for sharing! I am so getting those markers! And, even as I am thanking, I am asking 😂… Would you consider showing how you design your signs, as I know what I like but don’t know how to get there, especially on a tiny chalkboard. I would also love to see some of your highlights on your displays (what you thought worked especially well). Maybe even other vendors’ ideas , but of course, only do what you want to do with your channel. I don’t have your sense of design so just trying to sit at your feet and learn.
