- In chapter 396 we finally see how and why the Phantom Troupe was originally created. The reasoning for the founding of the Phantom Troupe I think would or did shock everyone and is never something you'd expect. I'm so happy we got another beautiful flashback chapter and I'm excited for more to come. I will say there was unfortunately more left out in this video than I'd like, but it's the best I got due to time and circumstance.

I think it’s pretty clear that chrollo voicing a lot of the characters in the dub is a reference to his future ability that allows him to steal and use nen abilities. It could also be a reference to his eventual loss of identity.
I feel what he’s going through here with the death of Shalnark, is reminding him who he once was and may reform a new identity in light of it all. Maybe even nen power up? 👀
Or it’s a reference to how he could have been a great voice actor if he didn’t end up a psychopath
@@amuroray9115both wrong, it’s not a reference to anything because the seed to his identity crisis was planted the moment they decided to be a evil group & made chrollo the leader. then when he eventually came back to offically create the phantom troupe, the plant was almost fully grown as none of the members recognized chrollo anymore. it started from rage & yet he felt nothing anymore. as for the performances in his past, that is a reference to his newfound personality threw the identity crisis & a reference to Uvo’s death. Uvo had a dream & chrollo was fulfilling that & giving him one last performance. i think Uvos dream was to make an impact on the world by being known in performance arts like acting or smth i forgot but it’s related to that. & as for how it relates to chrollos identity crisis, this is because that’s how it started in the first place. Chrollo is still that little boy that’s just performing & acting on stage, except this time, the personality he acted to be, *actually became him* which caused him to lose his sense of self.
The line between Uvo and Chrollo makes the York New City arc make way more sense and seem way more sentimental than it comes off as. Uvo wanted to be the best villain, so with his passing they made fools of the Mafia. It explains Chrollo’s whole orchestra conducting. Just like he put together the shows back in the day, he put together this show for Uvo. One last great performance starring Uvo, the beast who killed four Shadow Beasts alone. Uvo was “made” the star of the show because of the love and respect Chrollo had for him. It’s a strangely twisted way to pay homage, but also incredibly sentimental and specific to the troupe in a way that makes so much more sense now. Uvo also knew the dangers of his actions, so Chrollo (out of respect) couldn’t really be mad about him dying because that would be trampling on Uvo’s way of life. Whereas Shalnark and Kortopi were ambushed. There was no honor in their deaths

its rlly nostalgic to see strange and cute to see Chrollo portrayed as such an innocent, little cute kid, considering you know everything he is gonna do in the future.
I feel like this story and set up with the troupe could be be it’s own series conceptually. Kid Chrollo low key feels like a Shonen protagonist.
I thought the name "phantom troupe" was something other people called them, and they called themselves the spider, guess I was wrong
Also Chrollo looks so much like kid Kurapika in this chapter
because Chrollo and Kurapika are the same yet different
Chrollo's plan to use the dark web tied in really well with why they call themselves a spider
I remember when I was following Togashi's tweets and at one point we saw the classic off center blurry page corner but this one had slightly more detail and showed what looked like a crowd cheering. Theories went immediately to things like Heaven's Arena, or perhaps some location on the Black Whale where a show case fight was going down. Little did we all know, it was cheering children watching a young Troupe fan dub an anime. :) Togashi always subverting our expectations lol.

He is indeed a strong guy. An enhancer and he's like Uvo too a simple minded guy. Plus he always wears a track suit. So perhaps he really likes sports.
So happy I found this channel, so much good analysis. I look forward to these videos almost as much as i do the chapters. When you pointed out the genius in Uvo wanting to be the "greatest villain" and how he gets his wish but not in the way he wanted as a kid, I remembered why HxH is without a doubt my favorite manga/anime/story ever.

i was also a little emotional in that uvo panel for the same reasons as you but also bc he was touched by that bc just like everyone there they were never able to have nice things like that and that was the first time, they never had nothing so they get happy with so little, they had a tough life, makes me sad for them

If Sarasa getting hunted in Uga Forest is shown, we might finally know what those mysterious tree panels Togashi teased on Twitter were about.
Whenever this flashback wraps back around to the Kurta clan, that might be a good opportunity to segue into what Kurapika has been up to as well.

I think the government the mafia guys are talking about is the kakin empire more specifically to tserriednich and that would tie the kidnapping of sheila to her showing up in the kurta clan territory and the kurta massacre
Because we know tserriednich is the person who has the most amount of scarlet eyes as well as the head of kurapikas childhood friend
Maybe tserriednich kidnapped her and sent her to their territory and later informed the troupe that the kurta clan were the ones responsible for her disappearance and said that he'd pay them large amounts of money for their eyes as they were very rare
I want to know more about sheela, she seems to be part of the phantom troupe, but we know that she did not give up on her dream of becoming hunter, I am sure she participated on the kuruta masacre but she continued following Dino hunter's (Don Freegss) path and if she is still alive she could be Pariston, Bill mentioned to Kurapika that a way to scape from the succession war would involve Pariston or Beyond and they are both on the same team, it would be great if kurapika realizes about the truth this way, plus Sheela mentioned that she wanted to meet him on the outside world. It would be the best plot twist that instead of a final battle against chrolo we see a fight with Pariston (sheela), and togashi has done this before (gon vs Pitou instead of Meruem)
I'm guessing there is going to be some sort of negative interaction with the Church. Maybe Chrollo goes on to take the last name Lucilfer as a sort of nod to the devil (i.e. the "enemy" of the Church?) It could also explain the upside down crosses we see on modern day Chrollo and might even somehow tie into how Shizuku becomes a member. Having grown up around the Church also explains why Chrollo knows about Jesus and even kinda defends Judas in the Yorknew Arc.
Ooo that’s really good thinking. At this point I feel like I gotta re read the Yorknew City Arc.
I love the video, I have a different idea about , why he incorporates the villain so well, I don't think it is to do with how he was raised, he seems genuinely pure heart at this point, I think it has to do more with his ability (foreshadowing) the way he is able to take the character (and malice) of the villain and do it so well is because that's his ability, to take something (power) from someone else and use it as his own, on a mastery level of proficiency

These chapters have been SOOOO GOOOD MAYBE because it's been so long but wow. This phantom troupe flash back is worth the wait!!!!
Hopefully we can get a proper introduction of The Sun & Moon Elder in the next chapters. Since Chrollo hails from Meteor City it wouldn't be impossible if he seen the Elder's Nen abilities. I presume if anything happens to Sarasa the Elder will send a "message" to the Mafia.
This chapter was incredible. One of my favourites so far since the Manga returned. What heartwrenching story telling! 😳 Togashi is a story telling Nen user!

Same and I kind of was excited to see Hisoka fight some of the spiders but now I want him as far away as possible
When Kurapika learns about pyros head is with Tserrednich and Tnich actually orchestrated the Kurta massacre using the troupe to do it
It’s going to be so chaotic the complete mental breakdown of Kurapika, he had has this conflicting morality of his purpose. He doesn’t ever want the rage for the spiders to fade. But what will he do when he finds out he was wrong the whole time.
What will the everyones reactions be and who will side with who, Hisoka won’t stop until he gets all their heads, Troupe want Hisoka more than Kurapika, Tressednich will be inbetween aswell
It’s going to be complete chaos and we don’t know Illumis true intentions, if he’s actually hunting Hisoka or is he faking to double cross the Troupe as he only does what he is hired to do.
They weren’t criminals……they’re just a troop of actors

I think something happens to sarasa now since there about 12-13 yrs in 396 but silva kills Sheila I think. Far as chrollo forehead tattoo he seem to didn’t get it till maybe after the massacre because he had it during the first fight with silva but not in the flashback when he talks about the spiders head and legs stuff … shelia said she wanted to become a hunter and looks about 21-22 when she meet’s kurapika and we know some of the spiders did become hunters (maybe only shalnark)

I'm getting Oliver Twist and stand by me vibes from these flashbacks.
I think the only blatantly evil thing we’ve seen the troupe do was the chrollo audiance murders and phinks/feitan going on a murder spree in greed island.
I think essentially while everyone from outside meteor city sees everyone in meteor city as nothing, the troupe sees everyone outside meteor city as nothing.
Also for the Kurta thing i don’t think they directly did anything to the spider or their friends like Sarasa. If they did then how could uvogin have forgetten about them killing them as revenge for the death of their friend? It doesn’t really add up.

Hey, i think the troupe will deliver Sarassa in time. Maybe Kurotopi and Borolenov too. Breaking Elder's deal can make them know the truth about child's destiny and it can forge an anger against Meteor's adults and make them planning a revolution leaded by Chrolo.

my theory is that the kurta clan took the power of the scarlet eyes from meteor city given the main purpose of the massacre at face value was to aquire the scarlet eyes perhaps to take back what was stolen
"we saw the troupe as evil because we were always told they were" speak for yourself! and that's also completely wrong, idk how you think that but it's specifically a great point in togashi's writing that he purely portrays everything with no judgement, and a great point in his exposition that he shows and doesn't tell. we were never "told" the troupe was evil, we just shown the troupe and you made your own judgement that they're evil. which is great, you have critical thinking skills; but it's very important to realize they were --as with everything and everyone else in hxh-- always portrayed neutrally. and always 'humanized' too as you say, for the same reasons.
The green clean up ranger is someone that looks alot like gon and gon himself is in a green outfit but his father ging doesnt really look like gon as in the face they dont have the same face but even ging is allso in a green outfit, i think the green clean up ranger is don freecs and thats why we he looks so much like gon because its the grandpa off gon.

Honestly, I think Uvo would be GK. He's over 8 foot tall and a master enhancer. His reach and agility wouldn't let anything get past him. He could throw the ball at the other goal and one shot the other team.
Another note, does that Gon look alike have anything to do with Nobunaga wanting Gon to be recruited by Chrollo?
Final note, everywhere I've seen I've always read the Troupe did philanthropic work, which is a Big W imo.

Take this with a pinch of salt im coming up with this right out of my head and I have next to no direcg evidencd and only really know tbe genral story and not any details. What if sheila was killed by the kurta clan, maybe trying to revisit kurqpika and pairo, maybe some other reason she got too close and had to be killed. Maybe thats why the spiders acted so viciously towards the Kurta, as far as I know nothing painted ghe Kurta as complete pacifist if they take so many measures to stay hidden I imagine killing someone may be an option, brutal but very reasonable considering what can ajd has happened. And maybe I can tie it to the periston theory by saying Sheila faked her death to hurt the spiders and Kurapika at the same time, before becoming periston.
You could almost say that the book chrollo makes is his script for his characters
