      i have been on ELDS since 2014. i run 2500 3000+ miles a week and take a 34. I plan my routs and my stops. The fact is the ELD is no different than a paper log with one exception. YOU CANT LIE ABOUT IT.

      I'm an owner operator and since putting this damn computer in my truck my production has been cut in half.
      even when I run out every minute I'm still not able to make my runs on time.
      runs that usually take a day to run now take a day and a half.
      this shit is going to kill the owner operator.
      and I'm beginning to think that's the point.
      to make us all company drivers.
      if this shit don't change I'm cutting off my truck.
      I already know 7 others who have shut down over this including one guy who owned 7 trucks.
      this elog shit will be the death of small outfits and independent owner operators

      James Brundage cost us money as in we will be loosing money since we wont be able to work the same miles we do every week. I do about 3200 miles a week; with elogs, miles i make everyweek will depend on shippers, receivers, and traffic. Most likely less than 3200 miles a week.

      N Cortez 14hrs is 14hrs either on paper or ELDS, I drive with ELDS and I can get just as many miles as I did on paper. Keep your left door closed and drive. I get between 3500 to 4000 miles a week. Maybe if you had a truck that could run ,you would make miles. I ran from buffalo N.Y. to Clearfield Utah to twin falls Idaho and back to N.Y. in my 70hrs.

The shippers and receivers will never give a damn. As long as it is out of their warehouses or received into. The loss of revenue for the little guy will not matter to them!

    Hey you all. I welcome these E. L. D's. They will do one of two things. #1 Bring our pay up, or #2 Make enough people angry enough to stop their truck, Driver, Owner/Operator and Fleet Owner alike, and stand up and say, "Enough is Enough!" Everyone who reads this needs to go and read what the Australian Truckee's did way back in the late 70's . It will be tough to do it, but we can and should. I would like #1 The 14 Hr rule gone, #2 Sleeper birth/bunk split up, #3 Detention pay, and #4 Make it legal to carry a fire arm everywhere that truck goes in America. Just a thought from an Ole' Trucker.

    • @yabadabado7442
      @yabadabado7442 6 років тому +5

      Rodney Patton . Well said. I would also like the 70hr restart rule gone and an 8th break instead of 10. I don't need a 10hr rest period. And the 1/2 hr after 8 hrs on duty break is ridiculous. The government should've also mandated that shippers and recievers are to load or unload in no more than an hours time. Or pay $100 an hour to the driver. And for those that are company drivers, you should get paid for every mile you drive, not get paid for 2800 miles if you actually drove 3100 miles. That short miles household moving miles needs to be abolished. Working and not getting paid for your work is like slavery. With today's gps technology, they could pay you for every mile you drive.

    Tell Ben to arrive at the shipper/receiver the night before. Tell Ben not to start his 14 hour shift until his load is tarped and he's headed out the gate. Now Ben can work 18 hours or more and only log 14. Lets all hope that been can stay awake long enough to reach the next shipper/receiver. Oh and don't forget to tell Ben that he gets to do this 5 or 6 times a week. Enjoy your 34 hours at home Ben! It starts all over again Sunday evening...

    I’m about to go to trucking school. At my previous job we provided GPS units and an ELD app service to trucking companies. We were receiving constant complaints, all of the truck drivers HATED the ELD app and it was difficult for some of the more seniored drivers to use it and fix their logs. I spoke to a driver who said he’s done and he quit trucking on the spot! The worst part is that our ELD app was horrible, it requires a Bluetooth connection to a unit that was installed into the tractor and the Bluetooth connection would NOT work. The driver would also get error codes on the app and a lot of the time we didn’t know what the error meant so we had to reach out to the company that provided the software. We constantly had to tell the drivers that we’ll look into the situation but for now revert back to paper logs. This caused frustration and a lot of times the truck driver would take it out on their dispatcher I felt so bad for them.

      Understanding that this comment wasn’t directed at every single shipper and receiver, they're exceptions. Obviously they're are many different kinds of freight of varying weight and sizes, all being loaded by different equipment at different facilities with different trailers. Point being there are variables. That being said hearing about some of these drivers waiting upwards of 12 hours for a pickup is insane. I feel bad for the guy or gal that has to wait more than 2 hours sitting on the dock. Not to pat myself or my co-workers on the back but after reading some horror stories in these comments, definitely feel some pride in the way we run things at our warehouse. First off we don't schedule the truck until the load is 100% complete. That includes the pallet, shrink wrapped, labeled, marked appropriately if international, and packing slip. Even if it's just the packing slip missing, the order will not be called in until it has been put on the skid. From the time the driver enters the lot, talks to the shipping office, backs trailer, docks, chocks the wheels, plate raised, 24-30 skids loaded (depending on order), paperwork complete, raised plate, removed chocks, and driver leaving dock it is under an hour 99% of the time. Hearing about guys not giving a f*** about that blows my mind. Drivers and their trucks is what makes this country run. Think about it, every. single. thing. you own was on a truck at some point. Your computer you're reading this comment on, the chair your sitting on in your office, the fan keeping you cool overhead, even the materials in your house, tile flooring, carpet, plywood, lumber, shingles, siding, bricks, insulation, windows, doors, everything, every item you use on a daily basis came from somewhere and it got there via truck. Not really sure where i was going with all of this, just started typing, however, drivers and their trucks run America and without them our country would be alot different, so to all of you shipping and receiving guys out there making these guys wait because the load isn't ready or you're to busy f****** around, pull your head out of your ass and get moving! You could be the reason why your new furniture is a day late when you go to pick it up, because someone like you wasted the drivers time the day before and now he/shes behind.

    The old ELDs could be unplugged from the dish and turned off without being charged navsat drive time when turned on agian when you got through traffic . The new ones have a internal battery supply inside one of the side boxes on the sleeper still recording . My company lost a bunch of container drivers who got paid by the load from that. Delays killed the pay.

      If the first flight of the day is between 5 am and 7:59 pm you allowed 9 hours with a single pilot, 8 hours if it starts at any other time. 3 pilots is 13 hours, 4 pilots is 17 hours. And a rest break is a required 10 hours. Just like trucking

      Mario Edwards ok fair enough, so basically people are pissed they can't run illegally without getting caught. I'm surprised they haven't adopted the same sort of tachographs we have in the UK and Europe

    • @marioedwards782
      @marioedwards782 6 років тому

      well kinda, I'm pretty sure we all could run legally and get the job done, but I guarantee you everybody won't get all their loads delivered on time everyday, especially when you have major cities with traffic, not to mention some of the shippers have you waiting for like 2yrs before they unload you, but I think it's mostly a mental thing for all the o/o that own their truck and have to b monitored 24/7 now instead of being 50 miles from home with no hrs available they will have to shut down..... me personally I hate how much power DOT has over us, because if they think this will improve safety, it's all one big sham, if anything their will b more dangerous drivers rushing to get their day done for a parking spot(if available) at a truck stop smh

    Elog will change the shippers and receivers the way they do business, it's them that needs to adjust not the drivers. The only thing that I don't like is the 14 hours. And I hope they bring back the split sleeper berth time.

    This was the whole plan of the AMA ,sideline independents so they can make there already giant co bigger .the more independents sitting in truck stops and not making deliveries on time will create a bigger market and demand for large co .If they have a truck that can't make a delivery time they will just bring in anther truck and driver and off they go .independents have one truck and trailer and no option but to sit till the egg timer says you can go

    I have been using ELDs from my Trucking business for about a year and I make money and would not do it any other way. And I have also had several years experience driving for companies who had ELDs before I started my own company. Yes ELDs do work great and yes you can make money. But if you can't money and do it legal then leave the load and I will get it done within my available legal hours to work with.

    Ok elogs save life.. maybe that true.. but this has happened to me many times go into a place to deliver and they hold you up for 3 or 4 hours Truckstop is 30 minutes away. And you run out of hours and you are not allowed to park on their property .. and it’s unsafe to sleep on ramp.. what do you do... like really .. no matter how u plan ur day it will go south. Trucks are unwelcome in many Area

  • @1chish

    So basically its the rigid regulations and not the ELD that is the real issue? After all if this guy was operating legally he would be in exactly the same situation recording his day on paper would he not?
    We have had digital Tachographs here in the UK for 11 years (after decades of Electronic Tachographs recording on circular card) and we have had no issues with productivity or whatever. We see them as a safety tool and the big companies are the biggest enforcers of adhering to the law because if one of their drivers breaks the law on hours then the company itself (and their 'licensed person') can be in court and fined heavily for 'permitting' the offence.
    It works here because we have regulations built to make sure it all works as well and as flexibly as possible. And of course we are not paid by the mile. Just the hours worked. And legally I can be on duty here for a maximum of (3 days @ 15 hours + 3 days @ 13 hours) = 84 hours in one week! I am happy to post a Government link on how we regulate the hours on duty, rest and driving if it helps the discussion.

      Most of the time here in the US the company doesn't get into any trouble, just the driver. So why should the company care if something is logged wrong? Driver loses the licence and the company finds another driver to take his/her place. All the mega carriers care about is the $.

    • @1chish
      @1chish 6 років тому

      Terry - well that is where it works here I think. Make the companies more responsible for legal operation, lose some $ in fines and where necessary remove their licence to operate trucks.
      We have what we call an Operators Licence ('O Licence') for anyone wanting to run a truck for 'Hire & Reward' (aka haulage!). It is granted by the local Traffic Commissioner who is normally a senior Barrister or a retired Judge.
      To be granted one an individual or company must have:
      A Nominated Person who must hold what is called a 'Certificate of Competence'
      A regular maintenance regime either inhouse or under contract
      An off road authorised Operating Centre large enough to park the whole fleet
      Financial competence and specified financial resources
      If a company or its drivers break the law they can be fined and maybe have their fleet reduced. Repeat behaviour results in the loss of their Licence and they are shut down.
      That tends to concentrate their minds!

    I run a tachograph in my truck to monitor my hours. CVSA/DOT can't argue with me. Perfect. As for shit shows that try screw bennett. Charge by the hour to have a guy sit their waiting. 4 hours wait time, no problem, we will send you a bill for 400 to 500 dollars. Shippers will start caring. Trust me. This is the problem with a lot of companies, they don't charge to have a truck sitting their. My company charges, I get loaded in 15 minutes to a half an hour (unless some body has us deliver during a concrete poor. I don't care I get paid by the hour). Just sayin'

The receiver can’t unload till 430 pm? , that mean s Ben has to wait till wensday to pick up his next load .....the shipper says ....Ben you have to leave the yard , you can’t park here!!!! But don’t worry Ben there’s a nice truckstop an hour down the road....?? When Ben gets there there are NOT a parking spot to be had .... Ben has bills and now there’s a small paycheck coming next week....now I’ve only started driving 41 years ago so perhaps this would NEVER happen in real life but.....welcome to the new world of truckin Ben !!!!!....hey government are ya listening ?????
