- What book of the Bible should you read first if you are just starting out reading the Bible?
If you've ever asked this question, this video is for you! Most Christians know it's important to read the Bible, but if you are just starting out it can be very overwhelming to know WHERE to start. The Bible, after all, is a big book! Truth is, there's really no wrong place to start in the Bible - the important thing is that you are reading it. That being said, some places are definitely more helpful than others as a starting point, so in this video I'm breaking down five books of the Bible to consider reading first if you are just starting out. I hope one of them ends up being a good book for you to start with! 💛

Thank you for an amazing and informative video! I am just getting back into being a Christian and this video is a really great introduction to the Bible. I think I am going to start by reading Genesis and then also reading some Psalms every day.
Ive never read the bible. I considered myself an atheist most of my life but something has shifted. I bought a bible today (holy bible kjv) so im just here for tips!!!
I would recommend that you start with the book of John. It is a story of how God loves you and wants to walk through life with you. Always keep in mind that God does love you and you are so very special to him. I will be praying for you as you enter this journey. May he bless you.
Try NIV It’s way easier to understand! You can even get a teen Bible which has footnotes, questions, and explanations to make what you’re reading more understandable.

Hi there..i see it's been a year since you've left this comment and i just wanted to say how encouraging it is for me to see someone who doesn't believe in God buys themselves a Bible.. I've considered myself a Christian all my life cause of the weekly routine of going to church and being raised in a christian family..but i was never really serious with my walk with God and it always led me down the wrong path, which is why i am here..i pray and hope your journey in the past year was fruitful and still is..i will now strive to purchase my own Bible as you did 🙏

Ecclesiastes and songs of Solomon are good too. It's about the rich king who later realized that all of his riches are meaningless without God.
I'm going to start in Proverbs or Psalms because I did try Genesis and I didn't quite understand it well. I'm not a "new Christian" but I still count myself as one because this is the first time I'm trying to get closer to God. Thank you and Amen.

I’m going to start in the book of proverbs and genesis both 1 chapter a day of each. Hopefully I don’t get all mixed up with the different books in the Bible I just want to make sure I do everything correctly 😭🙏🏼
@@al3x1904You can lay your fear of doing things “incorrectly” and “losing God” at Jesus’s feet. Just lean on Him and He’ll guide you.
You don’t have to do anything in your own strength or understanding. Just pray to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit each day, to be sensitive to God’s leading and follow Him and not our sinful nature and flawed understanding - He knows that we’re not perfect and still loves us and saved us - pray for Him to refine your understanding through His word. He gave you the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide You into the truth, the Word of God to know Him and His heart for you, to strengthen you in your weakness and lean on His promises to you, that one day you will be made whole and perfect in eternity with Him.
Remember that Jesus’s grace is sufficient for you, even when you make mistakes, misunderstand things, sin, etc. ( 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.)
You are His and He never rejects those who come to Him. God gave you to Him and Him to you. (John 6:36 -37.)
Remember, He isn’t giving you a to-do list of what to do in order to be loved and saved. When the world takes away and drains us, God gives us all we need.
Even just listening to audio of the word of God or reading the text itself every day (which
ever you prefer)- even if you feel like you’re “doing nothing,” - is so beneficial for your Spirit. It’s by hearing that our faith grows and we are strengthened, and see who God is and who we are to Him. Don’t let the enemy deceive and discourage you into believing you’re not good enough to read the Bible or “not doing it right,” He knows that it strengthens your defenses against Him and your relationship with your Savior Jesus and he is desperately afraid. He will do anything to prevent you from resting in the truth that you have been saved and set free from sin and death, which is his dominion.
And you can pray along as you listen, asking God to help you understand as things come up that you have questions about. He will help you make connections and give you eyes to see more clearly.
It’s faith that saves us, not works. You don’t need to strive, just trust. Everything else will be added to you. Wherever you’re at, God will meet you there.

I’ve been slacking off a lot a lot with reading my Bible. But im still in Proverbs smh I should’ve been done months months ago !!! And Genesis too

I probably read through Genesis first because I was fascinated in reading the history. Of course, today I would recommend John. ("But these are written so that you may know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." (John 20:31))

Every time I read the Bible, I always start with Genesis to see the whole story. I recently got a study Bible and started making notes while I read it and it's been an interesting and more enjoyable experience :-)
I was always an enthusiastic bible reader but my main struggle is consistency. I can read a lot of chapters in one seating but resume reading after a few days. For the past two months, God has led me to read and meditate one chapter a day and I have seen how it transformed me day to day. I started with John and it was such a wonderful three week journey (21 chapters). I noticed that after finishing John, bible reading has become a habit and now I am continuing reading other books in the new testament and plays audio bible for psalms and proverbs whenever I would do the dishes or take a bath.
I learned to "chew" the food we are eating and not just stuff it down our throat so reading one chapter a day consistently has been so life-changing for me.

I started with Genesis out of my curiosity in God and Adam & Eve. I'm also a twin, so I began with the Old Testament :) I'm currently reading Proverbs, Psalms, and Matthew because they talk about courage, fear, and wisdom. all books of the Bible talk about courage, fear, and wisdom but I decided to start with these 3 books! I read Exodus 5 last night :) I'm a little all over the place

I opened up to 2 Chronicles 29 last night and started reading. The scriptures were speaking to me and I just started crying and sobbing. I was just saying God is so good over and over. Im on a streak of over 150 days according to my app.

The first book I ever read through in the Bible was Matthew. Afterward when I finished Romans I trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior. That was 11 years ago 🤍 I agree that Genesis is the best place to start reading in the Bible. As you said it sets the stage for God’s plan to redeem his people!
From early childhood our parents taught us to believe in God, read the bible and always be respectful of others. Without giving a guide to follow through out life. Your synopsis and guidance have been extremely helpful in reawakening my need to find comfort and solace in using the bible more diligently for life.

I joined a Bible study group during Covid and when I joined, they were on Colossians and James. When we start again, we will be studying 1 Peter. I really do need to start at Genesis on my own.

I probably began with one of the 4 gospels as well.
📖 I'd be remiss if I didn't share with you that the scripture verse that drew me into the Bible was, Psalms 37:4.
It's as if my Bible had some sort of high powered suction force that pulled me towards it. I mean, really think about that...the desires of my heart!!! See what I mean? I haven't put the Bible down since.
I later learned that God will put his desires in my heart, causing my desires to line up with his will.

I fell out of christianity a couple years ago because I kept praying for my dad to get better and he ended up getting worse but I’m willing to try again and I hope this time I can have a better relationship with god and i hope that the more and more I pray my dad gets better and if someone would like to pray for him I would really appreciate that he’s not about to walk and have lot of Wounds all over his Legs that don’t get better and it’s stoping him from being able to walk again ❤️
I started out reading the New testament and have read thru to 1/2 way thru Hebrews.. I was reading a Matthew Henry study Bible (kjv) and was struggling. I have a new study Bible in NKJV (Thomas Nelson)…… and am already learning and enjoying my Bible time…..I will go and read Genesis and then to Proverbs…..really good tips and your upbeat presentation is a pleasure to behold.
Not really sure, but it was either Genesis, or one of the Gospels. Being raised in a Christian home I went to church every Sunday, and knew a lot of the Bible from just hearing it but I never read it on my own. At 18 my parents allowed me to make the adult decision to attend or not. Sadly I chose to stop. About once a year, for 2 weeks to a month I get really excited and will read the Bible like all day. Then probably due to burnout, I won't think about it or touch it for a long time. Which kinda how I found your channel. Trying to find ways to dig in deeper vs just trying to power read. Sorry for long comment.

You're right, you really cant go wrong wherever you start. The very first book I ever read as a new believer was the book of Acts! So, so rich with Pentecost and the Spirit arriving onto the scene! And all the trials the apostles gladly endured for their testimonies of Christ! When America turns against believers, and that day is fast approaching, I pray I have half of their strength!
My husband and I started to read the bible a few days ago. One chapter a day. Not sure why, but we started with 1 Samuel. New habit but so far so good.

I’ve been saved since the early 90’s, drifted a bit in the aughts...rededicated myself to Him early 2020...and I’ve never read the Bible. I have come to realize as of late that I’m in a rut of some unhealthy habits that have plagued me since childhood. God moved me tonight to the understanding of the need of deliverance from this. I think I can be free of it...but He is telling me I need to read the Book. His Word. I had no idea where to start...I typed where to start reading the Bible in the search bar, and you were the second video. I almost clicked the one above yours but hesitated and inexplicably clicked on yours. Your video has helped point me in the correct direction. i have been trying for so long (like 1 year) to get right with god but i kept on going back to sin but from now on i am changed and i have just started and i will be reading genisis and the rest of the bible in my free time but i will be studying the gospels when i have my daily time in the word. I was never much of a religious person, but I’ve found that turning to the Bible at times of difficulty in my life has been immensely helpful. Thus, I see this collection of books more as a guide on how to live, than anything else. That said, I think Ecclesiastes is a wonderful place to start for beginners. I have found so much wisdom in these pages. Everything from “Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person, than the shouts of a foolish king,” to “people who work hard, sleep well, whether they eat little or much.” These concise bits of wisdom have helped me at almost every difficult turn in my life. When so much remains uncertain, it is important to go back and read parts of the Bible to provide guidance on how to live righteously so as not to get lost in our modern world littered with so much access to temptation and sin. Hope that helps any newbies out there. Consider Ecclesiastes. It’s a short book.

Great suggestions!! I couldn't agree more. Inalways recommend John first because it was written at about a 5th grade reading level and most importantly presents Jesus as Savior clearly.

If you are an absolute beginner, I'd recommend start reading in Mark, then Colossians and Titus. Then read Matthew, John, Luke and then Acts and following with the rest of the New Testament. Use the KJV, NKJV, NASB95, ESV or CSB for good literal study. Use the NLT for easy reading and comprehension. God Bless!

I am starting with the book of John. It was also suggested to me by a very good friend. This is my first time ever reading the Bible. I am excited to see where this takes me on my journey to find god.

My fiance who was raised in the Protestant faith suggested I start with Proverbs. I am overjoyed because that was the one I gravitated toward as well. I have tried starting from Genesis but could only ever get 20 pages in until I felt like my brain was going to melt. The Old Testament is VERY weird and I have never done drugs but I imagine that's what being on drugs would feel like. LOL No disrespect towards the Lord when I say that. Thank you for the video

I recommend Psalms for morning prayer, then Luke, Acts for learning about the life of Jesus and the beginnings of the early church. Then I would say go back and begin at the beginning with Genesis.
I am very new at being a Christian and I don’t understand anything about it. I pray for a better understanding….I can’t figure out if God and Jesus are two different people…so that’s where I’m at with it but I think I’m going to start out with Genesis and go from there…thank you!💜

Right. :) I was anticipating that you were going to say somewhere else. I fully agree, beginners should start from the begining. To fully understand the New Testament, beginners and everyone should start with the Old Testament. The Old Testament scriptures are referenced by most of the New Testament writers, such as The Lord Jesus in the Gospels, Apostle Paul in his letters to the churches, Apostle Peter, etc. As a college graduate, this is always a part of all college curriculums, what is called prerequisites in a series of courses that start with the basics to intermediate, advanced, expert, master to grandmaster level. The Lord Jesus is the Master. Christians are His disciples. God, the Father, is the Grandmaster. A 365 NLT Bible is also a version of the Bible to read in 365 days that would help a beginner to start and finish reading the Bible.

It’s never to late to start. I started in the small prophet books and than I did the small New Testament books after and then the bigger books. I did it so random and I been doing reading the Bible in a year on the youversion app. I have like 2 months left and I have read the whole Bible. You can also read the Bible in 90days. It takes 72-78 hrs to read the whole Bible. My favorite gospel book is 1 John and than John and than mark and Luke. Btw great video!!!

revelation is also an incredible book. if you are just starting out in your faith, i’d recommend you maybe read that later on when you’ve built a deeper foundation with God, but yeah i’d highly recommend.

I started with Genesis. It is explaining who is God and the start of everything. I was preferí hacer to start in the beginning and finish in the end. I have to admit that it is better to uses studying Bible as modern people have to understand that time’s culture and history as well. Bible study takes some research as well. Google is a great friend in this case. ☺️

I think if anyone considering Christianity but doubts religion might do well to read Ecclesiastes. It’s not long and IMO is a good “cover letter” for the Bible. It essentially states the case for why religion is important.

Genesis can have some parts that can deter new believers or readers but Joseph is one of my favorites personally and Ruth
Everyone is going through something, and with that being said I recommend starting with the book of JOB.
I read one chapter a day as soon as I wake up. First I read through the new testament and now reading through the Old Testament.

I'm probably going to start in one of the Gospels, I didn't really understand the Gospel of Mark. I'm going to read the Gospel of Matthew, Then 1 John and Revelation!

I think I’m going to start from the beginning. I always got told not to read cover to cover but I always felt like I should or I wouldn’t know what all happened and wouldn’t really understand. I’m starting my journey 03/10/2022. Once I wake up. I’m writing this at 3:07 am.
