    Something else to keep in mind when reviewing these 1440p monitors for console gaming is their HDMI port. This monitor's HDMI 2.0 port might technically support 1440p HDR @ 120Hz (as it does on PC) but the console forces you to enable 4K with downsampling to display any HDR content and won't run at 120Hz w/ HDR on this monitor.

    1:00 What a way to cheap out on components, Asus! I was super interested in this monitor precisely because of the combination of high refresh rate ELMB sync and higher brightness (because ELMB dims the screen out) but because of the DP1.2 I'm totally skipping out as forcing 120Hz gives no benefit over my current Acer monitor.

    Asus simply asks for too much for their monitors. The VG27AQL1A has lowest retail price of around 450 Euro, the Strix XG27AQ for 530 Euro and the Strix XG27AQM for 800 Euro. You can get comparable alternatives for all of those 100 Euro cheaper.

      Which one did you go with? I am looking at both as well.

    • @corollavirus4age
      @corollavirus4age 2 роки тому +6

      @@1987Psco I bought the Asus VG27AQL1A
      i got very lucky with the IPS lottery, mine looks considerably better than the review unit used in their website
      the contrast seems very close to 1100:1, i have barely no visible backlight uniformity issues, only a small area at the top right corner of my screen which unless i look at a dark screen at max brightness in a dark room, i cant even see it.
      it has ridiculously low input lag, and the response time is pretty good aswell, the ELMB sync (backlight strobing) is alot better than i expected, it feels like a crt, it reduces alot of the motion blur
      HDR is alright, some games looks pretty good with it on but of course nothing special its just 400
      sRGB mode is a joke, with no srgb clamp (since windows wont apply an icc profile system wide just on some apps) you can somewhat tweak the RTS mode to get closer to an sRGB gamut but i just leave it on racing mode.
      it has speakers, which are pretty much laptop speakers.. its useable.
      one thing to note is the 170hz mode on this monitor is a factory overclock through the OSD
      native max refresh is 144hz (which the native refresh, according to the panelook should be 165hz), and HDR is limited to 120hz because of the DisplayPort version which is 1.2 and not 1.4 as it should (which the Dell is)
      this Innolux panel "M270KCJ-K7B" (is used in alot of monitors ,Acer Nitro XV272U, ASUS ROG Strix XG279Q, Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD, BenQ EX2780Q etc) but the TUF seems to be doing better in most cases while using the same panel.
      its also apparently a quantum dot panel which most doesn't seem to be advertising.
      overall i am very happy with this monitor, i can safely recommend it.
      its a massive jump in quality and performance from my old 1080p 60hz TN monitor that i was using for 12 years.
      the only thing to remember is that, buying a monitor is a lottery, you could get a better version than mine or worse.

    I own this monitor. And IT HAS AN ISSUE WITH WAKING UP. I have to turn it on after wake ups often. It's random and definitely a bug. The worse thing is the support response about it: they stated it's expected behavior...
    Google reddit about this issue, I'm not alone.
    My cheap 100 dollar doesn't have the issue with the same PC, but $800 has it, and "this is expected". Upvote, please, so people can see.

      My has issues where sometimes it'll just randomly go black for a few seconds when I'm using it. It doesn't happen often but it's really annoying. The new 4k version they released also has a weird issue where it won't recognize the DP signal and just shut off. It makes me think it's an Asus issue.

    • @VladimirGolev
      @VladimirGolev 2 роки тому

      @@armen1136 I think there is some complication with DP standard. And other manufactures like LG had similar issue on start. But later they fixed it. Asus decided to answer "it's a feature, not a bug". Sure, monitor wakes up with computer but then displays "no connection" -- feature:)

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do as this is expected. The ASUS VG27AQL1A has a low contrast ratio, which is expected from an IPS panel, and the local dimming only slightly improves it. Blacks appear closer to gray when viewed in dark rooms. so, If you prefer something similar with a VA panel and better contrast, then check out the ASUS TUF Gaming VG27WQ1B.

      Hey Vincent,
      Just to confirm are you using DisplayPort or HDMI? We're asking because it can only be overclocked to 170hz over DP. It's also worth noting that the max refresh rate with 10-bit over DP is only 120 and 60 over HDMI. So, these are things to keep in mind. For the settings on our end though, all we had to do was enable overclock and set the max refresh rate to 170!

    If it still has no Display Port Deep Sleep configuration and is waking up 8-10 seconds, constantly messing up the desktop, like its predecessor, then no thanks.

    Is there any point to 170hz in desktop usage? Should be really smooth but any 30fps or 60fps video you try to watch on UA-cam or wherever is just going to look stuttery, right?

    • @g00gle1sw4tchingme
      @g00gle1sw4tchingme 3 роки тому +1

      Not at all. There is no difference watching a UA-cam video on 170hz screen than a 60hz screen.

    How tf gigabyte is "better alternative"? "Brighter in SDR"? That M27Q has 350 candelas instead of ASUS' 450. Moreover, if I'm buying a HDR monitor, I'm gonna use it lmao. Who cares about SDR with it. Colors? If you use your PC everyday it's obvious you will calibrate setting by yourself. Then there's a lot of revievs telling Gigabyte got bad pixels in about 1-2 years of using. You can find more patology if you want.

      Overall, they're very similar. Gaming-wise, the Gigabyte performs better because it has a faster response time, at max refresh rate and 60Hz. It also has wider viewing angles, gets brighter to combat glare, and offers more features like USB-C input, a Picture-in-Picture mode, and an integrated KVM.

      @@robsmashed Thanks for the suggestion but OLED will probably never be viable for me as I leave my screens on 15-20 hours a day with lots of static or slowly moving content so burn in would probably be a real thing for someone like me in a short amount of time anyway. Would love for there to be a burn in warranty but we don't have that in my country :/ Wouldn't have to worry about it then haha.

      There might be some setup videos or guides available through UA-cam/google. Hope it works out!
