    hi there! nice to see u grind ur way to make just a better coffee!
    as im seeing u progressing day by day, if i may recommend a way to help u achieve a greater coffee, u should try to focus more on the coffee itself (dont put too much pressure on the milk just yet)
    try a longer brew method, like lungo, or filtered coffee if u like. there has to be a distinct fruit notes to your cup of coffee, and not just sour and bitter. the longer your brew method, the notes would be much more enjoyable & prominent if u get it right, but more punishing too xoxo
    anyway, by no means im a pro, cheers mate, together we seek the ultimate cup!

      hahah thanks! Yeah we will try to play and experiment around with other ratios to see if we find something good. But we do love our milk drinks, also gives us a chance to practice steaming milk hahah. And yes, cheers to good coffee! - Jon

      Hey, thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I probably should have switched it to 'steam mode' first before I taste the espresso. - Jon

    Could you show the texture of your milk at the surface after steaming in the next video that you do a milk drink? I’m not sure I’m doing it right…

      Hey Ivan, we did try showing the milk before but I think it doesn't show up well on camera. But sure, we can try again next time although I'm not sure if ours is right too hahah - Jon

    Why do you not use a bottomless portafilter to spot channeling ? And where is that WDT tool from? Thanks :)

    • @thegroundedduo
      @thegroundedduo  14 днів тому

      Oh because we saw a Lance Hedrick's video that explained bottomless doesn't necessarily tell you if there is channeling. Even if the espresso doesn't come out nicely, it could be due to other reasons and it's hard to know. However, we will still consider using it just because it looks nice when extracting hahah but we will stick with this for now. We got the WDT off an online app which I'm not sure is available in your country but you could probably find similar one on Amazon. It doesn't have a brand haha :) - Jon

      @@thegroundedduoI'm gonna play the devil's advocate a little bit here: if you know how your beans extract typically, a botomless portafilter can show you inconsistencies in the puck prep. Also, when you stop the machine, it stops dripping almost immediatelly, unlike spouted portafilter. Also it's much easier to keep clean and to take out the basket. If you're not brewing very light coffees, you shouldn't expect to make a big mess by mini squirts from the bottom of the basket.
      I'm actually using my botomless all the time for that particular reason. I've got a blind basket in my spouted portafilter (which came with the machine) and use it to backflush the with water after each shot. Super quick and easy, and keeps the machine very clean (together with the puck screen you're already using)

    Hi Jon! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
    Apparently also leaving coffee in a hot portafilter is not good either. It’s like leaving it under the shower head, but nit as hot. ☺️
    I always first do milk, then espresso shot 😇🙏🏼

      @lordverbik1589 How long does it take for your brew water to cool down to brewing temperatures? Do you flush? Do you use a dual boiler setup?🤔

    • @gabrielapio1068
      @gabrielapio1068 15 днів тому +2

      Not really the ideal way to go tbh. The milk will sit for possibly too long, or you'll be rushing to setup for the shot. Most people also just have one boiler so it will be too hot to pull a shot.

    • @error.418
      @error.418 15 днів тому +2

      It's not a big deal, but you're right that it's not ideal. The moment you grind, you start losing the yummy smelling volatiles. So the ideal situation is to go from grind to brew as reasonably quick as you can, have everything ready to go before you grind. And letting the grounds rest in the hot portafilter while waiting for a temp to be reached on your machine isn't the best scenario, it will heat the grounds speeding up volatiles loss and increasing bitter notes slightly, but it's not going to ruin the shot. I'd caution against making it a habit, but wouldn't sweat it as a one-off. Some mornings are just filled with little silly moments, and that's okay, enjoy your coffee.

    • @thegroundedduo
      @thegroundedduo  15 днів тому

      hey, I did try doing milk first once, but it didn't turn out well, haha. It kinda burnt the shot because the water was too hot and the milk separated because I took too long to prep.. But yeah, that seems like it's not ideal too but like you said, at least it's not as hot as sitting under the group head. Still trying to find a better way to do it hahah - Jon

      @ you're a truly wholesome guy. Goodluck to you man

  • @PavelPavlov1
    @PavelPavlov1 14 днів тому +1

    Leaving the portafilter with prepped puck neither outside, nor on the grouphead is ideal, yes. But leaving it outside lets it cool down more, which lowers the water temperature and decreases your extraction. Honestly, I think it's better to not worry too much about that and leave it locked in while you do the temp surfing.

    • @thegroundedduo
      @thegroundedduo  14 днів тому

      Hey Pavel, thanks for the info! It's getting confusing because some said leaving the portafilter in the group head while waiting for boiler to heat up will be too hot for the puck. But now you're saying leaving it outside will lower the temperature. Hahah seems like everyone has different opinions. But no worries, we will try and find a way that will suit best. Thanks for that though! - Jon
