Just a quick explanation about what happened:
Cinder put the "virus" on beacon's network (on the Dance Dance Infiltration episode)
Ironwood connected his scroll onto Ozpin's desk to show the military bravado
The "virus" entered Ironwood's scroll, a new access point
Ironwood is head of security, as said by the council. He probably has access to a lot of beacon's systems.
Cinder got these access and now she's in control of the matches
She already was in control of matches.

@@ImpeccableZentertainment There’s reason to suspect they were manipulating matches all along. RWBY and JNPR both breezed through their team matches without a single elimination, and I think it would mess up their plans if certain teams were eliminated early on.

What’s even more absurd is that Neptunes semblance is water bending, so his water fear is super unfortunate
I love the fact that you can see from Winter's behavior that she does actually care about Weiss. I mean, she was annoyed with Weiss that her response to Winter asking how she's "been," was to discuss how she's doing academically. And she expressed that she wanted to hear how Weiss' life was going. Unfortunately, the same upbringing that left Weiss kind of prickly to people she doesn't know, seems to have both stunted Winter's development of connection to her emotions and driven her to join a military that seems like it may have exacerbated the issue... But that's okay for me. I like awkward characters like that, and (though I haven't seen all of the volumes of Ruby, so I can't say if we ever see Winter like this) they tend to be very adorable when flustered or embarrassed (as in feeling embarrassed, not as in having their pride embarrassed, and so feeling upset).
There's a reason I tend to say "tsundere is best dere" though, so that may just be my preferences showing through.
I definitely relate to not having a good relationship with emotions and how it could stunt one’s development so this hit home for me. I definitely want to see Weiss’ character development emotionally when she opens up to it (I’m hoping this happens).
I couldn’t wait until you meet Uncle Qrow! He is my favorite character out of all the characters in RWBY. So excited for the rest of the volume reaction and then the soundtrack reaction.
qrow is Badass thus far! I like his straightforwardness and transparency! Can’t wait to see more of him and how he contributes to the show!

Presumably, General Ironwood tried to check-in with his Atlesian Guards at the Beacon CCT and when nobody responded, he went to check it out himself, where he encountered Ruby at the ready in the main communications room but after her skirmish with Cinder who had just vanished.

In case you're confused, the queen chesspiece is a sign of something that Cinder put into the beacon tower when she fought Ruby. And since beacon tower has that inside of it, and ironwood put his scroll into the system in the scene where ozpin's inner circle was arguing, whatever Cinder put into beacon tower is also now in ironwood's scroll (if you look closely, you could see the queen piece flash on ironwood's scroll when he took his scroll from ozpin's table). Hence why Cinder said that they now have a new access point.
Edit: Also, that queen chesspiece symbol is definitely something to keep an eye on. "Queen has pawns" and all that after all

Also Ren on team JNPR was originally voiced by Monty himself, but after he passed, his brother took on the part, which is why he sounds VERY similar.

You know, the opening song for Volume 3 stands out from the rest we’ve heard so far for being the only one from the perspective of the villains. Much like Divide, it’s all about tearing down and shaming the “heroes”, so even though this Volume does start out as mostly fun and light-hearted, it holds up the expectation that this is the Volume where the shit finally hits the fan.
As much as our first instinct is to cheer for RWBY and JNPR, especially with their 4-0 elimination, it does feel like those matches were supposed to be easy to ensure those teams advance. Certainly, I think we all expected Pyrrha, and either Weiss or Yang to make it to the final rounds, but at the back of our minds we have to wonder if this is also not exactly what Cinder and her minions want as a set up for whatever they have planned for later. Of course there are some things they still can’t manipulate like who RWBY nominate for the doubles and singles rounds, hence why Emerald had to get that information from them.
Speaking of which, Emerald, they’re not happy all the time, you’re probably just that miserable and likely jealous of them.
You know, I’m actually surprised Weiss hasn’t made the connection between ignoring her father’s calls and her card being declined. Fortunately, as far as I can tell the Huntsman Academies are free to attend. It’s the only thing that makes sense given the varied backgrounds of all the students we know about, like orphans Ren and Nora for example. Or Blake who spent five years with the White Fang before leaving with just what she was carrying on her person. Plus Vacuans don’t have much to begin with. With how important Huntsmen are, it makes sense that Kingdoms invest in their training and not discriminate based on their financial backgrounds.
I would also have to agree with Dr Oobleck and Qrow about that last match. Team SSSN were a chaotic mess which makes sense given Sun is their leader, while NDGO seemed to be the better team in general. Still, it is on them that they let their guard down towards the end. As for Neptune, yeah, you’d think with his allusion (his weapon is even a trident) that he’d actually have the advantage with some kickass water-based semblance, but apparently not. Terrified of water even when it’s only knee-deep. Also a moment of silence for the Iceberg ship, or not, because I always thought Weiss could do better than the guy who flirts with every girl he meets.
Now finally, Winter and Qrow. In some ways, they are kind of like older versions of Weiss and Ruby, which makes sense given they are their respective role models but at the same time they have their own flaws and shortcomings. Winter’s “three missed strikes” comment did age rather poorly though, as it should have. I think one of Weiss’ problems is that she’s been trying too hard to live up to such high expectations. I will give her this one though, one of the first things she said was how the air in Vale felt different, which I didn’t understand at first until someone pointed out to me how Oz makes a similar comment in that same episode about an “energy” in the air that Ironwood is mostly responsible for. Still, she shouldn’t have let Qrow wind her up, and Qrow shouldn’t have taken his frustrations with Ironwood out on her, or Beacon’s courtyard.

The resemblance of Ruby and Weiss with Qrow and Winter is cool! I can definitely see how the tournament is being manipulated heavily by Cinder’s and Party with some aspects not being completely controlled. Those fights did seem pretty easy compared to the other ones so I’m eager to see who is going to be in the final rounds.

As for the rest of volume 3, I’m so hype for you to get hyped…and then sad.
Also, Winter is about five years, give or take, older than Weiss, so early 20s. Qrow is the twin brother of Yang’s mom, Raven, and since Yang is 17, that would mean Qrow is at least in his late 30s, so no past relationship of that type.
Probably shouldn’t explain about Raven until she’s explained in the show, but I guess it’s not the biggest of deals.

22:50 Paranoia warranted of course, considering previous tech issues :) Space only works if the last control you interacted with was the video player, which in most cases it is. But sometimes you've clicked outside the vid or on volume or something, in which case it won't pause until you click the video again. That's the main reason I got into using the various hotkeys on youtube, space pausing is actually technically just a feature of browsing with keyboard. J, K, L are skip backwards, pause, and skip forwards respectively and they always work. So I pause with K now. There are some others too like F for full screen etc

The Amity Arena really is Pokemon-esc isn't it? Given the Pokemon series has aura in it as well ,it and RWBY make for some real prime crossover fuel honestly
I love generating ideas and speculations throughout the show because 1) it’s lighthearted, fun, and just entertaining and 2) someone else watching the show could be put on the something that they haven’t thought about before!
The development of these characters are awesome and it really gives them great character depth. We’re piecing together vital information that was presented in volumes one and two and I can’t wait to see what volume three beholds.

A couple of things to point out:
The WOR for Vytal Festival Tournament was released before Chapter 1, you might want to go back and pick it up at the start of next week’s group. Probably the best way to approach this volume is to do one WOR and three chapters per batch since those literally come before 1, after 3, 6 and 9. They do usually provide info that will be useful in the chapters that follow them.
Winter: scolds her younger sister because she missed three strikes in her team battle.
ALSO Winter: can’t land one hit on a drunk man. 😆
There’s a very quick visual alert at the end of Chapter 3 but a lot of people miss it. Just before Ironwood picks up his phone a black queen chess piece suddenly appears on it for a split second - and then immediately afterward Cinder has a new access point on her tablet with Ironwood’s picture on it.
Oh wow… I thought something was fishy when Ironwood places phone on the table. I couldn’t pick up on it but my vibe wanted to keep that in mind.
I think I have a good route for WOR that I’m going to follow so I’ll try to incorporate it with the series if I can.
I'm sure you picked up on it during Nora's meltdown stating how she and Ren have no parents or home to return to. Nice touch on creating more depth on their character.
Also, you're the only other person I know who compared the arena to Pokemon. I feel validated, now! XD

1:53 I guess timeline wise, this looks to be late fall.....we know the events of the red trailer (this very location) happened in the dead of winter......Ruby seems to have started at Beacon in the Spring. Volumes 1 & 2 take us through that semester until now, with the start of Fall Semester....so it's been almost a year at least since she visited her Mom's memorial out here.

No, Ironwood didn't get Cinder into Beacon. Everything he does in this volume to help them is completely accidental.
Aside from Cinder, no one in this show is 100% good or 100% evil. At this point, Ironwood is still mostly good, despite you already knowing that he has his issues.

I love how alarming the third opening is to the tone
just so you know the age range for all these characters: all of rwbyjnpr are 15-17, + emerald and mercury being close to that, cinder and winter are seemingly around the same age as well (like 20-25), and all the other adults (oz, glynda, qrow, ironwood) are likely in their late 30-40s. its kinda crazy to think about how multiple members have rwbyjnpr have gone through so much at merely that age

If you look closely, Cinder's outfit in this volume actually creates a continuity error with her later backstory.
A note: I estimate Winter to be somewhere between 20-25, since she's not that much older than Weiss (17).
Qrow is a middle aged man, and by my calculations at least 39 (I estimate him to be maybe 42).
So there's about 20 years age gap between them.
one thing. the way they've always shown that cliff(and all we've ever heard of Summer) that is NOT her grave. It's a memorial stone.
there is a reason Neptune is afraid of the water his semblance allows him to control water one day when he was younger he nearly drowned his self in his on water bubble cuz he couldn't control it his brother Jupiter had to save him.

Oh man so happy you got to the Qrow vs Winter Fight scene (Probably my favourite fight scene). Qrow is my favourite character i love his counter answers against everything anybody says like he`s see everything. I am currently even playing a dnd character that has a lot of his traits its so much funn. cant wait for next week. Hope chair-kun survives season 3 there are a lot of seasons to flip out about after that.😉

"Beacon, it's been a long time. The air feels, different." Did weiss follow in winters footsteps at beacon? Shes Atlas military but i don't remember if we ever learned where she studied. Maybe qrow was a teacher of hers and thats where their beef comes from?
Neptune's fear of water is actually not random. It's not mentioned in the show, so it's not really a spoiler, but Neptune's semblance allows him to attract water to anything. So, as a child, he almost drowned himself, and his older brother causing his fear of water.
There is a sad backstory for why Neptune is afraid of water, because there was an accident while he and his brother were playing once and his brother drowned to death.
Kept thinking yesterday that it was Friday and kept looking for this upload. Was sad every time I realized it was only Thursday.
But at least it's Friday today and while I had to run to some other buildings to get some stuff done at work, when I got back to my office with some time to kill, I saw this was up and had to watch it. Should have left for home about 40 minutes ago now, but I didn't want to stop watching until it was over. I love the energy you bring to your reactions. Definitely becoming one of my favorite RWBY reactors. So excited to see how this season plays out for you. :)

So Neptune's fear of water is legitimate its talked about in a side comic but basically his semblance had almost made him drown.
I thought it was in the second CFVY novel thing, but I guess it might be in a comic too… Or I mixed them up… I only just started that book and haven’t read any comics, so I’m not totally sure.

Also in the RWBY books, they explain some backstory on certain characters, like how Neptune became afraid of water. It's understandable really, I don't blame him. The RWBY books make for great reading

U know why Neptun is afraid of water. It’s because of how he found out what his semblance is. Everyone in his family has a semblance that has something to do with water. And on day his protege pushed him in a sea and then Neptune semblance activated. And it is that he can make any objects attract water. In that case it was him so even if he would have got out of the sea he wouldn’t get out of the water and he nearly drowned if his brother didn’t saved him with his semblance. Well something like that. And sry my English isn’t the best

Hey there rebel,
So a couple of things, if you haven't been informed yet.
1. Monty passed away during the pre-production of Volume 3. He was only able to do some key frames for some of the fights that you'll see. But seeing that he was the master at animating the action, you'll see a drop in the quality fighting from Volume 1 & 2. Not to say that the animators didn't do a good job, but when you compare the two... Some will still love some of the later fights, but I would have loved Monty's take on it all. He was a beast though. Look up "Haloid" and "Dead Fantasy 1-6", both projects that he worked on by himself, before he was hired at RoosterTeeth.
2. After Monty's death, RoosterTeeth was pretty much devastated. However, there were some elements that felt that RoosterTeeth was trashing on what Monty made. An animator (and Monty's friend) described that the writers were changing what Monty made, and a voice actress didn't like how Monty's friend and also his wife were treated. Both no longer work for RT, so it was a rough time there. This is a rabbit hole that you should be careful of. Personally I side with RT based on what I read, but that is based on outside information, so who knows what actually happened...
3. Volume 3 is unfortunately spoiler heavy. Thumbnails, comments, and just years of internet could potentially spoil you of upcoming volumes. Would recommend a moderator, someone to delete any comments from your feed that fall in the "let's talk about chapters that Rebel hasn't seen yet". There is still plenty of spoil (Volume 9 coming up soon...ish), so some can't contain letting slip information, even if they see it as a "joke", or unimportant. Still spoilers.

I am not aware of Monty‘s personal life and I honestly why do you keep it that way out of respect for him and his family.
As far as spoilers, I’m very blessed and grateful that the community thus far has not really spoiled anything regarding volume three or any upcoming volumes. I also take it upon myself to make sure that if any RWBY content is recommended to me on UA-cam to be responsible and not be accidentally spoiled myself.
This volume was definitely something else… We’re actually doing the finale tomorrow.
