Blake's shadows are solid enough to take a hit. When she creates them, they occupy the same space as her. Doing this ejects Blake in a direction of her choosing. If you rewatch the S1C8 fight again, watch carefully when Nora knocks Blake off the ruins. After swinging up to the Nevermore, you'll see that Blake isn't quite high enough to land on it so she creates a shadow mid-air to pop her up the rest of the way.

    Some notes;
Semblances are like fingerprints, everyone is born with them and some are kinda similar, but they are unique to you. But you have to unlock/uncover your Semblance first.
And yes, some Semblances being extremly situational or useless is quite possible.
The scene at the beginning of Chapter 1 is also a memorial for Monty, with the shot of the sun and the birds also forming his signature.
Yes Qrow is kinda the fandoms "Daddy", so welcome to that 😝.

Almost all of them realize their mistake in the next batch of episodes because there is a private scene where it becomes extremely clear what their bond is. That being said it just cracks me up every time.
And... at the end of the day the reality is that the writers were clearly trying to *present* her as cold and harsh off the bat. So at the end of the day they masterfull succeeded at their goal here. Ok so, in the order it came up:
    - Blake's semblance clones have some substance and she use them as a foothold for movement.
    - Something about the tournament fights has always irked me and you saying it made me realize what it was: the previous seasons were choreographed with a fluent general composition outlining them, while the tournament fights were sequences of individual events happening one after the other.
    - About the limits of Glynda's repairwoman-skills ... let's just say they do exist.
    - Winter was not winning:
    - Keep in mind that Qrow was at least tipsy, potentially full-on drunk
    - The only actual hits she got were a few grazes with the summoned "birds" which as we will learn is the highest form of her semblance (even if she did not go all-out as per choice of summon)
    - At the beginning of the fight, he dodges about 8 of her strikes (also a callback to earlier, when Winter called out Weiss on "at least 3 missed strikes" in the tournament)
    - This one is a bit more subtle, but a little bit into the fight, there's a moment where Winter uses a Glyph to get away from one of Qrow's strikes. He looks down at the glyph, realizes she will evade and only then decides to slash at the ground.
    - After the summoning, she is visibly strained and steels herself for the next leg of the fight, while Qrow is standing there unbothered and with no signs of strain or exhaustion.
    - There is one more tell for which the context is only given later, so I won't say more about it.
To make that clear, all this is NOT supposed to mean that he is leagues above Winter and casually playing with her. She is - at a minimum - in the same general range of skill as he is, so she could be potentially threatening to him and she didn't go all out either. But there is no doubt in my mind that at this point in time, Qrow would have won a serious fight.
    - Impressive how enraptured you were with the conversation once Winter left. You understood how meaningful it was and just paid complete attention to it. Many reactors gloss over that scene and only take away that cracks in their alliance are forming and miss the actual content, so kudos to you.
As always fun to watch and looking forward to more.

The Vic case is very controversial and it’s unknown what is or isn’t true. I’ve read both sides of the story and their arguments. One side argues that Vic has been accused of multiple acts of sexual misconduct, while the other side claims that the only evidence they have is him hugging fans, when they never claimed to have had any problem with it until much later on, thereby making him misunderstand and think he was doing something completely fine.
On one hand there are multiple claims against him, but on the other hand there isn’t any solid evidence of deliberate sexual misconduct, at least on purpose.
This is why the case, at least to me, is so muddied and controversial. What also baffles me, is that to this day Vic appears to still be denying the claims against him, even after losing so much money trying but failing to appeal his case. It may very well have been sexual misconduct, but there is also a very high chance it wasn’t something he was even aware of. If he deliberately did those acts, I can understand, but if it was purely based on goodwill and he believed he was just being friendly, without any intent to harm or harass anyone, and nobody told him immediately to stop or they were uncomfortable (until later through public tweets), then I’m not sure how at fault the man might actually be. This case, in my eyes, is much more controversial than, say, Elliot Gindi, the VA of Tignari in Genshin Impact, that definitely has solid evidence of harassment towards minors, and who used his fame to take advantage of his fans. I can guarantee you if given the choice between these two, Gindi is definitely far worse, because he was proven to have malicious intent against even minors.
Vic? If there is indeed evidence somewhere other than pictures of hugs and being friendly, and only the word of those involved, I haven’t found it yet.
Keep in mind, this was also a time when the MeToo movement was very hot, and there has definitely been proven cases where people were falsely accused of sexual misconduct in those times later on down the road.
But indeed, these episodes were made pre-allegations. It was near the end of Volume 6 I believe when they decided to fire him and change voice actors.
And, at the end of the day, none of this will matter anymore as his name and reputation is now permanently damaged beyond repair. Even if he somehow does win his case in the end, nobody would care or even notice. Even the courts no longer seem to care to review it anymore.

21:12 "Girl pockets are the worst". Aside from the obvious joke being made here, there is also a deeper inside joke as well. The costumes designs in RWBY were made specifically with cosplayers in mind. They wanted to design the outfits so that cosplayer could wear them on the convention floor, with stuff like practical pockets.
The joke here is that Ruby's outfit doesn't have "girl pockets".

The best way I can explain the difference in feel from Monty to others animating fights is that there are moves that are done at physical human speeds, kicks and such, that are sometimes even visibly slower than a pro fighter could actually do that move, where Monty would have that move snap through its motion in a blur or even a single frame. Then there is less of a pause before the next move. The attacks per second is roughly the same, but how that time is split is different and it's more reaction, less prediction to counter it. Changes the feel of the fight.

And for all his other faults, that's an important strength he has. Ozpin clearly picked Jaune as leader for a reason, so if we're to assume Oz knows what he's doing, then we'd have to assume making Jaune leader was the right choice

2: Yes Ruby is getting taller; shes younger, and still growing.
3: As someone else mentioned, Winter does love her sister terribly, but she is a young woman who attained a high military rank despite her age. Add in the fact that she was raised as an "heiress" herself, and whenever she is in front of a crowd she acts super strict and formal.
4: This is what Qrow is capable of while stumbling drunk, fighting against a talented, but very young, huntress. Just wait until you can see what he does sober.

Ironwood and Winter were never a couple. They are friends, though. She's been his second-in-command for a long time.
1:14:00 That's no different than the real world in the U.S., however. If you've ever talked with someone who has been in prison, for a marijuana charge, even, they'll tell you how difficult it is for them to find employment. It's even difficult for them to just rent someplace decent to live. Nobody wants to rent to, or give a job to, someone with any kind of mark on their record. No matter how far in the past it was, nor if their crime is something that is now legal in their state, people want nothing to do with them. Unfortunately, it makes starting out fresh, extremely difficult.

1:23:00 -- Regarding Qrow: Vic Mingnogna was cast as the voice of Qrow long before the allegations about him came forward. Once those allegations surfaced, Qrow was immediately recast and is voiced in later seasons by Jason Liebrecht, who does an amazing job on his own. I feel that it is important to differentiate between the character and the voice actor. Qrow is an amazing character, who happened to be voiced by the wrong person at first (a trend that seems to be all too common in video games and animation these days it seems), and I hope you are able to appreciate the character, despite the VA at this point in the story.

I think the thing about it wasn't that the retreat was a bad move. It's that the previous episode ends with them, like jumping at each other, and then the start of the next episode has some cool fighting immediately followed by a retreat.
Right now, the trend that is persistent, which frustrates me, is that JNPR can't actually get any hype or cool moments. Like they get undercut with humor. Which I get that's kind of the point with his character, comic relief. It's just frustrating because, on one hand, you're giving Juane this character arc to become a leader and tactician, and on the other, you make him baffonish and incapable of leadership.
It's like having capt. America or Optimus prime slip on a banana peel 10 seconds after they give a speech.

The character isn't the VA, and I kind of think it's funny when people in a community do a complete 180 on their opinion because they find out something controversial about the actor. I definitely didn't do a good enough job explaining where it was supposed to be funny like "ahhhhhhhhh ahhhhhh Actually Qrow has no rizz, gets no bitches, ect" it's one of those things where people in my personal life would get it in an instant, but if you don't know me it comes off as much more serious than it was supposed to.
