So you really have to accept the most scummy sponsorships? Like this channel is big enough to turn this shit down. At least take sponsorships of actual good products. I can understand when small channel do this because mobile games pay really well. But you clearly don't need the money. That's just greed.
My grandparent's owned a bar & grill on The Pike, not by the time Elmer's body was discovered, but in the mid-late 50s. My grandmother, who was from Oklahoma, once had her hair cut & permed by Bonnie Parker, who had been employed as a beautician prior to hitting the road with Clyde Barrow. The Dust Bowl was crawling with bank robbers & outlaw gangs during the Great Depression. Glad to hear that Elmer finally found his place among them!
I swear the world was so much more interesting and fun back in the day. Imagine riding around on a corpse of an incompetent outlaw with rollerskates. That sounds amazing.
I've read articles, and even seen other videos of the bad luck of Elmer McCurdy's rise to fame. But no one does it quite like Thoughty 2 does it when he tells a tale of becoming famous. Especially when it's about a dead dude doing it.
This is why 42 is so good. This story is in other videos I’ve seen. But never saw the most interesting parts. About his life, that there was a penny in his mouth, the rollerskate story. It’s so amazing we can watch his videos for free. So I ordered his book, to do something back.
One slight clarification: in the “Six Million Dollar Man,” the ill-fated and bionically rebuilt astronaut Steve Austin was played by actor Lee Majors. While your graphic showed WWF (now WWE) wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (and I’m assuming that was a joke) some poor soul might actually think he was the star of this mid-70s adventure TV series. He couldn’t have been because he would have been 9 years old. Great story and wonderfully told! It kind of makes you wonder how many other famous dead people are hanging out in plain sight with no one any the wiser who they really are...
Thanks for setting the record straight re:. "The Six-Million-Dollar Man.". Thought I'd slipped into some sort of alternative universe there, for a minute! Glad the poor old outlaw is finally getting some peace.
Today he’d be known as the ‘Thirty Seven Million, Three Hundred and Seventy Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety Two Dollar Man’ due to the cumulative rate of inflation of 522.9% since 1973 in the US.
Apparently, this was the inspiration for Skeletor. I forget the name of the documentary, but one of the Mattel guys had had the crap scared out of him as a kid by old Elmer and later used the visage as the basis of Skeletor. Arguably one of the best antagonists in the modern age of entertainment. ...and then, Kevin Smith took a shit all over it.
There is one more important fact about Elmer's body that needs to be mentioned. Most people probably know about this thanks to the Netflix's show the Toys That Made Us.The creator for He-Man ( Mark Taylor) used to ride the ghost attraction as a child. He was so scared of Elmer's body that he used to have nightmares. Mark Taylor needed a terrifying villain for the show He-Man. He remembered Elmer's body and came up with skeletor. So Elmer is responsible for the creation of Skeletor .
I have listened to many of the stories you tell. I have heard those same stories told by other narrators but the way you tell them is so detailed, so much more. You are definitely a great storyteller... I listen often

I live in Guthrie and the history in the town alone is insane and weird. I'd suggest you check it out. The Masonic Temple, underground tunnels and the capitol was intended to be in Guthrie, not OKC.
Wow that was an incredible story. I've seen the photo of that guy but never realize what I was looking at I guess. They should make a movie about him. He should never die. Anyway hey thanks a lot you always tell a great story
Thoughty2. Thanks for keeping up with new and interesting videos. Always looking forward to seeing a notification that you've uploaded a new video. Always awesome and interesting content to keep me entertained and learning. Much obliged. Keep em' coming bro.
Not only did this dead man take part in several attractions and movie productions, he was also buried next to his idol... If his ghost was around it probably had a lot to see and maybe even had some fun in some weird way, I'd love to watch a movie like that
When my lights go out. I want to be able to say that my light lit up the whole world 🌎. We all want to be remembered years or decades after we're gone, but it's what we do in life that decides how long we're remembered when we die if you're a good person and you've changed the lives of thousands your story will be told for millennia, you don't even have to be the author
When I saw the thumbnail and title I thought this was going to be about another exhibitionist mummy named 'Sylvester'. I learned about him in a documentary anthology called Mummies Alive (2015) Season 1; the episode is called The Gunslinger Mummy, if anyone is interested 💀 It's actually quite a good, educational series that uses CGI to bring to life the lives of certain mummies from different eras. Particularly the episode about the Inca Maiden. There was another documentary I watched years ago where they used carbon dating, DNA, etc to find out about mummies from mass gravesites and then using computer programs were able to render them to life, including eye colour, hair, etc. But for the life of me, I can't remember what the show was called! The only mummy I can remember was one who had contracted syphilis and was at the tertiary stage, so the anthropologists were able to tell from the degradation and pock marks on the bones what was afflicting her and had probably led to her death. Interesting how they can tell a person's status from their diet; for example, people who are poor eat mainly a diet of vegetables and grains, whereas one consisting on a lot of meat and poultries, usually shows wealth. So, from diet and disease they could tell she had lived a life of deprivation and poverty, most likely as a prostitute. Sad all the same but it really gives you a glance into people's lives throughout history.
I grew up near Long Beach CA, As a kid in the 1960s, we visited The Pike,, I rode that haunted house ride all the time. I never knew about the dead cowboy till now. God, creepy
I have been watching Thoughty2 for almost 2 years and I now just realised I never wondered where he gets his high quality actors. He should make a video explaining that.
You showed a photo of the wrong Steve Austin. That one is the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin a former wrestler, now a television host and actor. The Steve Austin in the 1970's TV show "The 6 Million Dollar Man" was portrayed by Lee Majors. Nevertheless, this was an incredible story, as all of yours are!
I saw this story on TV show, beyond the unknown or mysteries at the museum. I recommend you see the show for further ideas. Just an idea. Great job sir
He was actually the inspiration for skeletor from heman!!! Most won't probably know because I actually had to put 2 and 2 together from another documentary Iv seen
I always wondered what happened to him. I worked at the Pike, but he wasn't hanging when I worked there in 69. He was propped up inside near the tracks and looked like he was taking a snooze. We all thought he was a real mummy, dressed as a cowboy or coal miner. I'm glad Elmer was finally laid to rest.
This is kinda freaky... My grandpa's name (first / middle) was John Elmer. In WWII, he was trained in the use of explosives. Then he went on to be an explosives expert in the largest copper miner in the history of the state of Washington. He was also, at different times, a butcher, a construction contractor, a logger, and a few other crafts.
I've actually seen the same story from the youtuber "Ask A Mortician", about the same person. I would both encourage viewers to this channel to try that one, as well as for thoughty2 to look there for inspiration for future videos.
