Hey, there is one thing I wanted to really ask you but… I am doing your course on strategy game… but I feel so discouraged whenever I do ur tutorials…. It takes me 1 hour to finish a 15 minute video lol…. I finished the grid system section and I had to rewatch it 3 times to understand it completely…. Also sometimes the challenge u give, I come up with different solutions because I do not think the same way as u do… But my solution are always bad and incomplete… Is this normal?…. Or should I just quit game dev…. :(( Regardless I just wanted to say u r doing an amazing job and not only me but so many other people look up to you… You are like Main character of so many people who u don’t even know… thank you so much for being a teacher and helping us students out
That's perfectly normal, you're just describing the learning process. It's perfectly normal to not understand something well the first time, especially if you're a beginner. Keep in mind that the length of the video is NOT how long it took me to learn, you're not expected to follow the course in realtime. So just take it slow one step at a time, if you're learning the That's all thst matters. Keep at it!
@@nmn5701 Yeah that's normal Sometimes you stay for days in tutorial list that at the end is "just 4 hours" but keep in mind that for them it takes even longer especially if you take way longer than the video to do them know that they put a ton of effort to make it not boring
The tricky thing is the Steam backend is technically confidential, so technically you cannot really show the behind the scenes. I don't think Valve has ever punished someone for that but the confidential warning is there Chris has a free course on setting up a Steam page though, so check that out
Honestly I'm an artist the code does my head I have a vision half the stuff I buy I learn from but the code animation and systems are so messy for what I'm trying to achieve so I'll start selling my assets soon on the store but I'm sad because I want my stuff to be exclusive honestly I'd work with you I have 2 years worth of savings and I'm using that to focus on my dream of something
Many of the assets don't make so much money. One enterprise that made beautiful 2D backgrounds recently closed it's account ... "21% of all paid assets have two or more ratings." (gamedevthings)
Video idea for the both of you... you and Chris could do a project together. Brainstorm what will sell and create that game with documentation of the process along the way. Of course a small scale project. Could be a nice proof of concept or an example of even if you do all the things right, there's still a lot of luck involved, haha. Even better if you do that all under a new name without telling everyone it's your project, because it's closer to what most indies' experience will be like (without an already existing following etc).

"Mr Monkey" i was not expecting that hahaha :D
I'd love to see a tutorial on how to setup a Steam page. The Steam admin, looks like a crazy/overwhelming mess, hard to understand.
Chris has a free course for that (search for How to Make a Steam Page Chris). I haven't checked it yet, so I don't have an opinion to share.

Chris has a whole site dedicated to doing this step by step for free
Thanks!

That would be really fun but still a multimonth commitment which is quite tricky
Step 1 of game marketing : make actual progress on the game so you have something to show
heh yup, marketing is pretty useless if you don't actually have a game to market
