Oda sure knows how to actually make his villains appear as strong as they are. Not too many anime get it right in my opinion. The fact it took any entire island to beat him was his best quality.

Doffy didnt offer to buy Dressrosa, he threatened Riku. But said he would back off for a large sum of beli. This caused Riku to practically take what little money his people had to try and pay off Doffy. So when Doffy used his Ito Ito to force Riku to kill his subjects, it made Riku a killer AND pseudo-thief to the people.
I do not really understand why Doflamingo's dad decided to live with the people. I mean, he could have used his influence and wealth to make the people's lives better by buying slaves and setting them free afterwards, donating money or order the navy HQ not to send out Buster Calls anymore. Technically he could have saved a lot of islands(like Ohara) and lives had he just stayed in the holy land(Doflamingo would have not been a problem, Rocinante could have joined the navy anyway and maybe saved Law, too)
Doffy was low-key right about his dad. Trying to live out of some kind of fantasy and dragging his wife and kids into it there's being exposed to other cultures and respecting them trying to integrate into them and just cutting off all of your support that your ancestors worked hard to make sure those kids of yours were safe for nothing other than your own gratification. Kind of analogous to a antivaxxer who due to the privilege of never having to deal with any of these diseases because of vaccines and medical science will have the dissonance to come up with a bunch of stupid ideas about them and the ignorance to test them out on their kids instead of taking advantage of the advantages of their forefathers worked hard and died for them to get because they knew the hardships and were able to find a better way after having no choice. it's not the Perfect Analogy the holy land is like the opposite of a vaccine makes you so fragile to everything outside of it probably also diseases but there's keeping you in a bubble and there's protecting you from what you plan to get exposed to

I’m not saying he was cruel, but it seemed like his primary goal was his family finding a new, more ethical way to live (in extreme wealth and comfort) with regular people, not using his influence to make the world better for the ordinary people. He was never going to fight for them. It was a terrible plan from the start, but it came from a place of ignorance rather than a place of antipathy. He looked like a nice guy, but he was extremely sheltered and had no clue just how much damage the Celestial Dragons had done over the years and how tempting a target they’d be.
He was simply overly optimistic and naive. Given how isolated his life was before, it doesn't surprise me. Living in Marijois, you can have good intentions or bad intentions, but that wouldn't make you any less ignorant unless you bothered to learn about the world beforehand.

well for me i personally really like doffy. He doesnt discriminate people by their looks or anything. Only thing he cares about is how powerful you are and if you are loyal. But to answer your question he felt betrayed by his own family. His own family only brought him more misery than comfort. The only possible way to get back into that sense of power or nobility was to bring his fathers head to them for "atonement" if you know what i mean. Which didnt work obviously however he also felt betrayed by corazon for working against him. Even though doffy wouldve wanted his brother to sacrifice himself with that op op no mi fruit for his own gain which in all honesty is pretty horrible. I still want to say that the "family" he gained are better and more loyal then his own blood family. Even if they werent doing things very nicely or in a nice/correct way, they were all Loyal to Doffy as Doffy was to them. He just isnt a simple character and is really deep and well thought out. Honestly one of my favorite characters from all of One Piece. Hope we see him again. Possibly he could help in destroying Mariejois or the holy land. (still pretty fucked up that he would destroy the place where he was born but still justified, atleast in his mind).
Unpopular opinion: Doflamingo was the best villain in the series at least up till this point and also my favorite hands down i love his design his powers his voice actor just everything about the guy I loved the whole dressrosa arc I think fans of the series really didn't like it because it didn't necessarily accomplish alot for the crew in the long run but it really did have some great moments sabo's return the strawfleet being created etc all I hear anymore in the community is "I wish we could fight kaido already and big mom" which is fine but they all forget the series is about the journey not the destination
He's my favorite antagonist in all of OP. His backstory was incredible. I just wished that Dressrosa was better organized as an arc. I'll rewatch it, after the conclusion of the current arc, but really he's such a fascinating character. And his DF, is amazing. It's in my top five favorites. And really puts forth what Crocodile stated in Alabasta all those years ago: A DF it doesn't matter which one you have, it is HOW you use it. And the fact that he awoke the DF, just goes to show how terrifying he is. Donflamingo in many ways was the transition period; to where EVERY foe past him is going to push Luffy to his absolute limits. Because, everything prior to Dressrosa had some training wheels for him and the SHs. Not anymore.
Dressrosa is one of my favorite arks. I don't care that you had to suffer through the Rebecca flashbacks for two years, I watched in two weeks and they were glorious! I love both Doflamingo and Law. To what you said I'd add his great speeches, and personality, which seems pure evil, but there is always a little hint of care about his crew, if not for else cause he does not wanna bother with replacing them. Their interactions were really fun to watch. There is some sick moral to him that makes him more real. He is just a cool fucking villain. And yeah, Hideyuki Tanaka is a very good voice actor and a great singer. More of Doffy would never be enough.
Interestingly enough, Doflamingo was a key character in the One Piece story. Think about it, if the Donquixote Pirates never existed, Rosinante and Law would have never met and Law would've died since Corazon was the one who saved him by stealing away the Op-Op Fruit and forced him to eat it. If those two had never met, Law wouldn't have been around to operate on Luffy after Marineford, and Luffy would have more than likely died. However, none of this happened because Doflamingo did go on the path he did and he did form the Donquixote Pirates where his brother and Law would meet and everything that happened afterwards happened. Yes, Doflamingo did some evil stuff that is inexcusable. Though if it weren't for him, many people would have otherwise suffered and/or died had Luffy not been around to save them. His presence in the One Piece universe is/was key to the story, be it directly or not.

Donquixote Rosinante is my 3rd favourite character in the entire show... and I really didn't think that I would get to love him so much... he was around for like 7 episodes. Screw Ace, Corazon's death is the only moment in the entire series that I was really sad and cried at
I feel the Hie Hie is awesome. Besides it’s terraforming abilities, he’s the concept of cold itself if he wants to be intangible. Things pass by as a cold mist, or he turns to tangible ice that reforms anyway.
Doflamingo was an underworld broker code-named Joker. Kaido may have never known Joker and Doflamingo were the same person until after Luffy's defeat of the Shichibukai. Doflamingo may have only sent intermediaries to Kaido's territory, in case it was a trap.
I know I'm late to the party, but there is one thing i think is interesting about Doflamingo: It's a little too convenient how his DF counters Law's Ope Ope no Mi perfectly. The normal Room-cuts would be completely useless, and even Law's more advanced techniques like Radio Knife and even Gamma Knife wouldn't do much, since Doffy could still stitch himself together for the fight. We know that Trebol recruited Doffy for the purpose of him becoming a nearly invincible king, including being made immortal by the Ope. I think it could very well be that Trebol gave Doffy this specific fruit with the intention of him being able to counter the user of the Ope Ope no Mi, should they revolt against the Doflamingo Family instead of perfoming the operation. Trebol's fruit also seems like a semi-decent counter to the Ope Ope, with trebol instinctively trying to "glue" himself back together after he was sliced by law. Obviously that didn't work, but we don't know if Trebol knew that Radio Knife was a thing that fruit could do.
doffy was a genius, although he was messed up. i have to admire his genius. his plans were on point and oh god i love his devil fruit powers, i wud choose that power anytime. My favourite character
the Dressrosa arc was quite interesting knowing that pre timeskip, we didn't know that much about Doffy, just that he's quite an influence among the Warlords and I quite enjoyed the Donquixote Family theme, Doffy being the Joker, Piqua the Spade, Diamante the Diamond, Trevol the Clover, and I guess Law as the intended Heart because he's the captain of the Heart Pirates?
Doffy would have fought Fujitora without a second's thought if he actually moved against him in Dressrosa, whether he would win or lose i don't even want to get into that (and please, don't start a discussion over it) But i know that he would'v put up one hell of a fight.
Agree with Madaura. Doffy would have lost. Cause how is he going to move, or use his strings while being crushed by gravity to the ground. Especially if Fujitora attacks first in a surprise attack.

I recently picked up Don Quixote De La Mancha for a bit of light reading and i found some interesting info. It is written by a man named "Cervantes" ( rather like Frevance) who was the son of a surgeon ... he had a hard life, he lost his left hand in war and was in and out of prison for Debt. And in the story the character Don Quixote has a horse named Rosinante..... food for thought....

slight alteration. doflamingo did not offer to buy the kingdom. he basically tasked king riko to collect taxes. riko had to collect something like 50 million beri from the people to pay off doflamingo. however i think the point was to just make people hate king riku for this unreasonable tax hike so that doflamingo could come in and put an end to the tyranny. the irony was that king riku was such a good ruler that the people trusted him enough to hand over the money no questions asked and he kept his reputation. thats when doflamingo basically took control of him and made him seem like the villain by killing people.
I know Im late, but for sugar's devil fruit, I don't think the abilities are that strange. It resembles a child with the youth, who wants to have toys, turn people into toys, and then make the toys yours, remove memories of anyone who knew that person to keep them. It's like forever being a child. Hope this is a good explanation

You know I'm terrified to hear Shanks' back story. Like I'm hearing all these backstories and considering how strong the people with these dark and painful backstories are the thought of what Shanks has been through worries me greatly.
I know I'm like a million months late but I only recently found your channel and am going back through your old videos. I just wanted to point something out that you said in this video and also another. That Doflamingo would absolutely wreck Luffy in an actual 1v1 fight, that he only won because he had help. But you didn't seem to remember that Luffy was fighting, running, using haki and his Devil fruit the entire day. He fought Don Chinjao in the arena which he used a lot of haki and took some pretty serious hits from Bellamy and Trebol. Luffy wasn't in tip top shape either at the start of that fight. Personally this is why I think Oda had Doflamingo take so many hits from law and gave Luffy help from the town/other pirates. Not saying Luffy would destroy Doffy, just saying the fight is more even than you are giving credit. Anyway thanks for all the awesome OP content. Robin is also my favorite grill!

I don't actually watch or read One Piece! I'm barely intrested in getting into that series, considering how depressing, emotionally f-ed up, and just very, very rough in general One Piece is for the most part! And I don't like those type of series'. It's just my personal opinion! I just don't like One Piece, and I'm not intrested in it, simple is that. But the way you talk about (in this case) its characters, for some unknown reason, I actually enjoyed watching these. I really liked the way you talked about each Warlord in One Piece. I thought it was very intresting. Not gonna lie, it was much better to know all of these characters from your perspective than reading the actual series. I loved how you talked about Law, 'cause since then, I was waiting for you to get to Doflamingo as well. And this video was pretty good.
I feel like all of the big criminals in anime could be imprisoned in an awesome, fuck all prison that is inescapable, and you could write an anime series about these overly OP, cheap hax characters trying to break out of this fuck all prison, and it would be the best fucking anime ever. Doflamingo, Sosuke Aizen, Utsuro, Madara Uchiha or Sasuke Uchiha, etc. You could bring absurdly powerful villains, put them in a fuck all unbreakable prison, and make a Shounen spin off series about it, and it would sell like hotcakes.

I would like to point out where sure luffy had alot of help but he had also fought that ENTIRE day against different strong opponents so i think it would have been a closer fight that you might believe, as Doffy from what i recall didnt really fight til luffy reached the top
Well Oda made Doffy too good and didn't establish his powers very well cause every time we saw the guy he would string someone up in a second, so he had to make Doffy do stupid things for things to be fair.......really obvious stupid things like let them on the island, let Luffy live all those times before and during the fight, letting Law do his things, leaving the real Mera Mera in the colosseum
If his strings can carry an electric current, and if the Den Den Mushis transmit by sending out radio waves (or some other low frequency electromagnetic wave like a cell phone), then it makes sense that Doflamingo's birdcage would shut down communications. Look up a Faraday cage if you want more detail, but essentially, any large EM waves inside or outside the cage creates an electric field that shifts around the electrons in the cage wires in such a way that it cancels out the EM waves. Thus, you can't send a signal into the cage from outside or send a signal outside the cage from inside. However, typically the cage can't have large gaps in it, and I thought Doflamingo's cage had gaps between the strings that were too large for a real Faraday cage to work, but then again I'm no expert on it.

Is Dressrosa longer then the entire cp9 arc? I know that took a long time since it started with Aokiji's introduction all the way to the end of the post enies lobby stuff including Ace vs Blackbeard. I dont know the exact amount of chapters of each but i know they are both REALLY long.
It's the longest single arc, some people like to combine the entire Water 7 & Enies Lobby arcs into one, but I don't think they were intended to be viewed that way.
As a person who read Water 7 and Enies Lobby weekly from about half way of Water 7 I can tell you that no one in the forums considered these two as separate arcs and no one was saying ''Hey a new arc'' when Enies Lobby started. And yeah Water 7/ Enies Lobby is longer than Dressrosa. Actually you can compare these arcs structure as really similar where as the first half introduces a lot of new characters, lays out the conflict and has some characters duking it out where as the second half has the backsoties, fights and the long aftermath.
I understand your perspective, it's just such a unique situation since usually it's every new island starts off a new arc. That would be the only arc that starts on one island, jumps to another, then back to the original to end it out.

Lucci was great, he was basically the opposite of Luffy. Crocodile was a little boring tbh, great villain but nowhere near the best.

well for me i personally really like doffy. He doesnt discriminate people by their looks or anything. Only thing he cares about is how powerful you are and if you are loyal. But to answer your question he felt betrayed by his own family. His own family only brought him more misery than comfort. The only possible way to get back into that sense of power or nobility was to bring his fathers head to them for "atonement" if you know what i mean. Which didnt work obviously however he also felt betrayed by corazon for working against him. Even though doffy wouldve wanted his brother to sacrifice himself with that op op no mi fruit for his own gain which in all honesty is pretty horrible. I still want to say that the "family" he gained are better and more loyal then his own blood family. Even if they werent doing things very nicely or in a nice/correct way, they were all Loyal to Doffy as Doffy was to them. He just isnt a simple character and is really deep and well thought out. Honestly one of my favorite characters from all of One Piece. Hope we see him again. Possibly he could help in destroying Mariejois or the holy land. (still pretty fucked up that he would destroy the place where he was born but still justified, atleast in his mind).

Unpopular opinion: Doflamingo was the best villain in the series at least up till this point and also my favorite hands down i love his design his powers his voice actor just everything about the guy I loved the whole dressrosa arc I think fans of the series really didn't like it because it didn't necessarily accomplish alot for the crew in the long run but it really did have some great moments sabo's return the strawfleet being created etc all I hear anymore in the community is "I wish we could fight kaido already and big mom" which is fine but they all forget the series is about the journey not the destination
He's my favorite antagonist in all of OP. His backstory was incredible. I just wished that Dressrosa was better organized as an arc. I'll rewatch it, after the conclusion of the current arc, but really he's such a fascinating character. And his DF, is amazing. It's in my top five favorites. And really puts forth what Crocodile stated in Alabasta all those years ago: A DF it doesn't matter which one you have, it is HOW you use it. And the fact that he awoke the DF, just goes to show how terrifying he is.
Donflamingo in many ways was the transition period; to where EVERY foe past him is going to push Luffy to his absolute limits. Because, everything prior to Dressrosa had some training wheels for him and the SHs. Not anymore.

I love both Doflamingo and Law. To what you said I'd add his great speeches, and personality, which seems pure evil, but there is always a little hint of care about his crew, if not for else cause he does not wanna bother with replacing them. Their interactions were really fun to watch. There is some sick moral to him that makes him more real. He is just a cool fucking villain. And yeah, Hideyuki Tanaka is a very good voice actor and a great singer.

Doflamingo has definitely been my favourite main antagonist so far; everything about him was just done so well, the powers, the backstory, the persona
Interestingly enough, Doflamingo was a key character in the One Piece story. Think about it, if the Donquixote Pirates never existed, Rosinante and Law would have never met and Law would've died since Corazon was the one who saved him by stealing away the Op-Op Fruit and forced him to eat it. If those two had never met, Law wouldn't have been around to operate on Luffy after Marineford, and Luffy would have more than likely died. However, none of this happened because Doflamingo did go on the path he did and he did form the Donquixote Pirates where his brother and Law would meet and everything that happened afterwards happened. Yes, Doflamingo did some evil stuff that is inexcusable. Though if it weren't for him, many people would have otherwise suffered and/or died had Luffy not been around to save them. His presence in the One Piece universe is/was key to the story, be it directly or not.

Donquixote Rosinante is my 3rd favourite character in the entire show... and I really didn't think that I would get to love him so much... he was around for like 7 episodes. Screw Ace, Corazon's death is the only moment in the entire series that I was really sad and cried at

Doflamingo was an underworld broker code-named Joker. Kaido may have never known Joker and Doflamingo were the same person until after Luffy's defeat of the Shichibukai.
Doflamingo may have only sent intermediaries to Kaido's territory, in case it was a trap.

I know I'm late to the party, but there is one thing i think is interesting about Doflamingo:
It's a little too convenient how his DF counters Law's Ope Ope no Mi perfectly. The normal Room-cuts would be completely useless, and even Law's more advanced techniques like Radio Knife and even Gamma Knife wouldn't do much, since Doffy could still stitch himself together for the fight.
We know that Trebol recruited Doffy for the purpose of him becoming a nearly invincible king, including being made immortal by the Ope. I think it could very well be that Trebol gave Doffy this specific fruit with the intention of him being able to counter the user of the Ope Ope no Mi, should they revolt against the Doflamingo Family instead of perfoming the operation.
Trebol's fruit also seems like a semi-decent counter to the Ope Ope, with trebol instinctively trying to "glue" himself back together after he was sliced by law. Obviously that didn't work, but we don't know if Trebol knew that Radio Knife was a thing that fruit could do.

the Dressrosa arc was quite interesting knowing that pre timeskip, we didn't know that much about Doffy, just that he's quite an influence among the Warlords
and I quite enjoyed the Donquixote Family theme, Doffy being the Joker, Piqua the Spade, Diamante the Diamond, Trevol the Clover, and I guess Law as the intended Heart because he's the captain of the Heart Pirates?
Doffy would have fought Fujitora without a second's thought if he actually moved against him in Dressrosa, whether he would win or lose i don't even want to get into that (and please, don't start a discussion over it) But i know that he would'v put up one hell of a fight.

I recently picked up Don Quixote De La Mancha for a bit of light reading and i found some interesting info. It is written by a man named "Cervantes" ( rather like Frevance) who was the son of a surgeon ... he had a hard life, he lost his left hand in war and was in and out of prison for Debt. And in the story the character Don Quixote has a horse named Rosinante..... food for thought....

slight alteration. doflamingo did not offer to buy the kingdom. he basically tasked king riko to collect taxes. riko had to collect something like 50 million beri from the people to pay off doflamingo. however i think the point was to just make people hate king riku for this unreasonable tax hike so that doflamingo could come in and put an end to the tyranny. the irony was that king riku was such a good ruler that the people trusted him enough to hand over the money no questions asked and he kept his reputation. thats when doflamingo basically took control of him and made him seem like the villain by killing people.
I know Im late, but for sugar's devil fruit, I don't think the abilities are that strange. It resembles a child with the youth, who wants to have toys, turn people into toys, and then make the toys yours, remove memories of anyone who knew that person to keep them. It's like forever being a child. Hope this is a good explanation

I know I'm like a million months late but I only recently found your channel and am going back through your old videos. I just wanted to point something out that you said in this video and also another. That Doflamingo would absolutely wreck Luffy in an actual 1v1 fight, that he only won because he had help. But you didn't seem to remember that Luffy was fighting, running, using haki and his Devil fruit the entire day. He fought Don Chinjao in the arena which he used a lot of haki and took some pretty serious hits from Bellamy and Trebol. Luffy wasn't in tip top shape either at the start of that fight. Personally this is why I think Oda had Doflamingo take so many hits from law and gave Luffy help from the town/other pirates. Not saying Luffy would destroy Doffy, just saying the fight is more even than you are giving credit. Anyway thanks for all the awesome OP content. Robin is also my favorite grill!

I don't actually watch or read One Piece! I'm barely intrested in getting into that series, considering how depressing, emotionally f-ed up, and just very, very rough in general One Piece is for the most part! And I don't like those type of series'. It's just my personal opinion! I just don't like One Piece, and I'm not intrested in it, simple is that.
But the way you talk about (in this case) its characters, for some unknown reason, I actually enjoyed watching these. I really liked the way you talked about each Warlord in One Piece. I thought it was very intresting. Not gonna lie, it was much better to know all of these characters from your perspective than reading the actual series.
I loved how you talked about Law, 'cause since then, I was waiting for you to get to Doflamingo as well. And this video was pretty good.
I feel like all of the big criminals in anime could be imprisoned in an awesome, fuck all prison that is inescapable, and you could write an anime series about these overly OP, cheap hax characters trying to break out of this fuck all prison, and it would be the best fucking anime ever. Doflamingo, Sosuke Aizen, Utsuro, Madara Uchiha or Sasuke Uchiha, etc. You could bring absurdly powerful villains, put them in a fuck all unbreakable prison, and make a Shounen spin off series about it, and it would sell like hotcakes.

There's no difference of pronunciation subjectivity allowed for this, it's simply incorrect. Fleshed out is to give more details, complete, etc. Flushing out is to get something out of a hiding place or out of obscurity. Just helping you out, no hate here truly. Keep up the good work.

Well Oda made Doffy too good and didn't establish his powers very well cause every time we saw the guy he would string someone up in a second, so he had to make Doffy do stupid things for things to be fair.......really obvious stupid things like let them on the island, let Luffy live all those times before and during the fight, letting Law do his things, leaving the real Mera Mera in the colosseum

If his strings can carry an electric current, and if the Den Den Mushis transmit by sending out radio waves (or some other low frequency electromagnetic wave like a cell phone), then it makes sense that Doflamingo's birdcage would shut down communications. Look up a Faraday cage if you want more detail, but essentially, any large EM waves inside or outside the cage creates an electric field that shifts around the electrons in the cage wires in such a way that it cancels out the EM waves. Thus, you can't send a signal into the cage from outside or send a signal outside the cage from inside.
However, typically the cage can't have large gaps in it, and I thought Doflamingo's cage had gaps between the strings that were too large for a real Faraday cage to work, but then again I'm no expert on it.

Is Dressrosa longer then the entire cp9 arc? I know that took a long time since it started with Aokiji's introduction all the way to the end of the post enies lobby stuff including Ace vs Blackbeard. I dont know the exact amount of chapters of each but i know they are both REALLY long.
It's the longest single arc, some people like to combine the entire Water 7 & Enies Lobby arcs into one, but I don't think they were intended to be viewed that way.
As a person who read Water 7 and Enies Lobby weekly from about half way of Water 7 I can tell you that no one in the forums considered these two as separate arcs and no one was saying ''Hey a new arc'' when Enies Lobby started. And yeah Water 7/ Enies Lobby is longer than Dressrosa.
Actually you can compare these arcs structure as really similar where as the first half introduces a lot of new characters, lays out the conflict and has some characters duking it out where as the second half has the backsoties, fights and the long aftermath.

I understand your perspective, it's just such a unique situation since usually it's every new island starts off a new arc. That would be the only arc that starts on one island, jumps to another, then back to the original to end it out.
