1:06:41 is my favorite on this soundtrack. It really gives you the sense of a flourishing city, everyone is busy building, selling, etc., or there's a festival happening at the square. Also musically, I just love the progression of the song with different keys and crescendoing to the end, it's almost rocklike at the climax. The arrangement is probably the most modern-sounding of the soundtrack, you can hear a "bass", a "guitar", a "violin", a woodwind instrument, and drums, along with many harmonies and polytonalities.
Back in the day, I found the game's music files and put them in my iTunes. Most of the files had odd names, so I renamed them to what I thought they sounded like - "Sunrise," "Camel ride," "River Journey," etc. Well, the one you mentioned that plays at 1:06:41 - I had to check. I had named it.... "The Flourishing City" 🤯
@@GeekyKara Little did you know that the "odd names" were already descriptive. Most of them are transliterated Egyptian (if sometimes a bit iffy) I was so excited when I first realised that.
@@GeekyKaraYeah it's such a fun little touch. Some of them really fit too, like the one about a festival or the growing one. Unfortunately the one you and OP were discussing (sthA) is one of the iffy ones. At least to me and I am still very much an amateur at it, so others will probably know better. I've seen sthA translated as "tempt/seduce" but I've been unable to verify that myself. The only thing using the same signs that I've been able to find relates to mandatory corvee. Interpreting that as a busy city hard at work is probably too much of a stretch. xD I do like the idea of there being a typo and it actually meaning "to make dazzle". Would be great if there was still someone around who could tell us what the intended meaning was.
44:15 Heard during one of first Middle Kingdom missions- first intermediate period. You can hear that glory has passed away, famine has struck the whole country, internal conflicts are increasing, people are rioting. But... there is still hope. We have to pray to Osiris and Ra, and trust to wise beloved Pharaoh.
It is ok, but somehow I like way more the basic game with hd mod - mainly for one is used to the old building menus and somehow the new version felt like it needs more clicking in order to achieve similar complexity. No issue to me with the updated graphics,I liked a lot the "do not touch the core mechanics" aspect but at least to me I still prefer the old thingie if I want few hours of escapism🙃 the crew that made the amazing Augustus update to Caesar iii should be in charge of pharaoh as Augustus is arguably the best or at the very least among the 3-4 most essential balance/UI friendly/refreshing mods ever made Like Augustus,openRCT,PD2,Equilibris -these should be the bare minimum baseline for updating an old classic game
28:33 Mi parte favorita, cuando la ciudad estaba en todo su esplendor... esta canción sonaba como un carnaval, hasta daban ganas de estar ahí en egipto tirando bloques de granito.
This is also my favourite song. It's upbeat and makes me feel peppy, and I love the fact you can hear people reacting to the music; that REALLY brings it to life~! Also I would joke with my daughters that the bongo drums were being played by cats. ( Ancient Egypt adored their cats, almost as much as we do lol )
@@EmisoraRadioPatio It's been so long since I've played it but these are what I can remember. Can't rotate the map. Buildings just don't work such as a bug in mission 4 or 5 involving fisheries. Not starting completely for some buyers. Police and soldiers no longer fend wild beasts and crocodiles off. Battles are just an animation over who has more units. They had three years to iron this out and they still stuck with these bugs and troubles. If you REALLY want it, get it on sale or once some patches go through.
One of the 2 soundtracks that defined my childhood and life later on - the second one being also video game music "Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Gate"! I come back to them regularly just to find out I like them more and more each time - also because learning musical skills, gives broader perspective on those pieces!
One of the most brilliant soundtracks given to a deserving game from the golden age of gaming...as of today i always keep it installed with few other classics like hommiii and open rct (didn't like that much the modern version of pharaoh, way more i adore the original with basic hd mod) I am by no means a game historian or such but to me at least it was (along with caesar iii) the first "sandbox" game - just have fun ,regardless of level goals (that were usually quite trivial) And play lets say finish it asap,or go as close to the food or any resource limit as possible,or whatever goal ...even arbitrary one as just make a "pretty" city🙃and always was pleasure to hear for 1001th time these tunes Hope the heroes orchestra guys will one day pay homage to this little musical journey too😊 Anyway thanks for the sweet memories...of yet another replay not being sure whether i'd try new Rowarty or Hetepsenusret or many many many lovely maps before🙏 Bubastis i liked so much😅 the kitty city Or Baki ...enormous industrial base possible Or some of the crazy maps of cleo wtf Trully amazing game well deserved the astounding dedication of fans and well worth being played some 20+ years after launch... a feat that seems unattainable for even the most exquisite titles of today🙃 The only major issue is that 50:16 is way too short

one of the best osts for me... actually the number one i think, RTCW comes second =) maybe I am just old but not many modern games come as close with music
How much I wish they'd given Emperor a sequel in Japan, India or, now that I'm thinking about it, the Mongolian expansion, since they became emperors. And then another game centered on Mesopotamia or even Israel (replacing gods with YAHWE and quests with biblical events… COME ON, JEWS, DROP A FEW SHEKELS so we can make a great game :-) ) And of course, others about Russia, from early Slavic tribes to the conquest of Siberia ! Why did Sierra have to disappear like that ?…………
Emperor is the end of an era, after that, no one made this kind of game anymore. Therefore, it's made Emperor the last in line, the glorious of the goldern age, before the dark time.
1:03:21 this song is genuinely haunting to me. all i can see are desolate shores and washed over farms, and the scary faraway part of the map with the hippos that i never got to by the time i closed the game
